I got a 10 day chat ban and lost an honor level...

OKAY so I played three games. Two of which we lost and the other we won. There are two constants in each game: someone who is griefing the match, and me being tilted. Normally, when I tilt, I just /muteall and play the game. I don't think I did in the two that we lost, but that is besides the point. I got queued with people who intentionally tried to make us lose the game and when I say something stupid to them, I get punished. But when I look at all of their profiles, they never got banned. I made sure to report them in each case, and I'm pretty sure by the way my team reacted that they also reported them. I don't get why Riot is punishing me and not the people who actually deserve it, albeit they have me on record saying stupid stuff. Is there any way to unlift my ban? Lack of communication is the number one reason why games are lost.

So, it has come to this: someone displayed misbehavior in a LoL match in flagrant disregard for the game's rules, ToS, EULA, and Summoner's Code. That's unfortunate, and I'm sorry you had to deal with it. If this misbehavior happened in chat (including emotes or ping) and they don't respond positively to a single, courteous, constructive request to focus on the game, your best option is to mute that player. Submit a report after the match. This is equivalent to dealing with a noisy person in a library by asking them to keep it down and then notifying library staff and moving to another area.

Do not respond with misbehavior of your own! If you do that, your teammates may report you, and those reports would be valid. This is equivalent to dealing with a noisy person in a library by getting into a shouting match with them. Just because someone else started it doesn't justify you in continuing it. I'm sure you're familiar with the "s/he started it" trope, where two children get into an argument or fight and then try to claim innocence of any wrongdoing by claiming that they didn't instigate it. As any parent, teacher, or other supervisor of children will tell you, that excuse doesn't fly. When Dad is trying to drive you to Disneyland and your annoying brother starts making faces at you as he's previously been told not to, you should calmly ask him to stop, and then, if that doesn't work, calmly notify your parents of the problem. Making faces at him or shouting at him has never been a good way to get him to stop, and it makes you just as guilty of that as he.

Riot doesn't care who started it. Someone else's misbehavior does not justify your own.

From Riot's support knowledgebase:

  • Simply speaking, retaliation is not an acceptable or justifiable behavior. An argument between two players can easily create a negative experience for the rest of the players in the game with you. Regardless of the other player’s actions, this does not justify your own behavior. You alone are responsible for your actions within the game.If you encounter a toxic player like this, the best option is to simply report their behavior and move on.
  • Reports are a vital piece to the puzzle. If you are not sure of what sort of behavior is reportable take a look at the Reporting a Player FAQ

If you misbehave but a teammate or opponent does or says something even worse, you should definitely report them after the match, just as someone reported you for your own misbehavior. Yes, that's certainly possible. Reports are not a limited resource. Any time someone believes that another player violated LoL's behavioral standards, they can report that player. Punishments are similarly not limited: if more than one player in a game merits a punishment, they can both get a punishment. This can happen even if the players in question were antagonizing each other. The IFS doesn't need to weigh the severity of all reported players' actions and then "award" the "winner" with a punishment; it's not a contest.

Think of it like dealing with a noisy person in a library: ask them to keep it down, and then notify library staff and move to another area if that doesn't work. If you get into a shouting match with them, you're just as likely to be removed, even if you weren't shouting quite as loudly as they were. The goal is a quiet library.

In a perfect and just world, everyone who deserved a punishment would get one. In reality, it is possible for some punishable behavior to go unpunished. First, punishments in LoL can only occur after a valid report. Second, punishments take into account the consistency and severity of the punished player's misbehavior: if two players in a match break the same rule in the same way, one who consistently misbehaves in this way might get a punishment while the other who almost never does so gets away without a punishment (this time). At the end of the day, though, all this does is explain how differences in player behavior over many games can produce different results for equivalent behavior within a single game. It doesn't excuse poor behavior. One person having a rare bad day doesn't give a consistently toxic player the right to join in. The only behavior that matters in your punishment is your own... and a good thing, too: how would you feel if you behaved yourself but got punished anyway just because all your teammates were spectacularly friendly, communicative, and positive?

From Riot's support knowledgebase:

We can not discuss other players’ actions with you but you can always report them at end of game and mute them when in game. There is no excuse for raging back or responding to people trying to get you to tilt. You are the only one responsible for your actions and your words which is what we are trying to address with these bans.

By your own admission, your punishment was correctly applied. It therefore won't be lifted ("unlifted" isn't a thing). You can avoid further punishments by recognizing your difficulty in dealing with annoying teammates and figuring out a way to keep your own behavior in line, whether through meditation, screaming at your computer, counting to ten, or some other method. Good luck!

I'm punished because I yell at someone who is intentionally losing the game for us. I don't care if the ban is "unlifted" (I don't care if it isn't a thing, thank you) because I know that no matter what, I'll be stuck in the same shit the entire time I play this game. I play everyday and I play with so many different types of people. I have strong self-control. If I curse in game at someone is running it down mid, I deserve the fucking frustration. I have every right to be mad, and I have every right to say something about it. I got reported by the people who ran it down mid and I got in trouble while they get to keep going and running it down. Maybe they'll get banned eventually, but why wait for more games to be ruined, and maybe other tilted players to get banned. I can't even play on the affected account because i cant communicate things with my team effectively. Listen, I got reported by an Amumu who ran down my lane, fed my opponent, and then hung out in base the rest of the game. I called him a bad word. He says to the enemy team "XXX said something mean to me, plz report" and they reply "ok". Next day im banned from chat. It's ridiculous. Ive been playing this game for years, never been a problem. I start playing ranked, and it gets intense. MY BAD I WANT TO WIN BUT SOMEONE ON OUR TEAM IS JUST INTING BECAUSE HE IS MAD. I dont know. Like i said, i get it, i say bad words oooo ok whatever, but why are these people allowed to keep playing and doing what they do? You say after a valid report is when punishment will occur. Ok, but what do they define as valid? Did they look at the gameplay and watch what happened? No, I bet not. I bet they just look at chat logs, see me being mad, and theyre like OH THIS GUY SUCKS, LETS PUNISH HIM. Like ok riot. Great job. I cant get out of my elo because every game i play gets griefed and when i get mad, i get reported. GGWP!

TLDR: WHO CARES THAT PEOPLE ARE JUST RUNNING IT DOWN MID?! YOU CALLED THEM STUPID SO YOU GET PUNISHED!

Correct.

I have strong self-control.

Good; use it.

You are indeed allowed to do that. But if you do, you might be punished for it, because it's against the rules you agreed to.

It is not possible to gang up on someone with multiple reports. From Riot's support knowledgebase:

It only takes one report for our systems to review a game.

I WANT TO WIN

Then I wouldn't recommend shouting at people. That decreases your chances of winning.

I've seen people lose their mind and break every rule they possibly can (inting while screaming slurs at the team for 20 minutes straight), and they don't get banned. I suspect that it's pretty much impossible to actually get punished for just one game, and people who manage to get a punishment have made a habit of breaking the rules on a regular basis. In other words, the people you're mad at will probably get punished when they break the rules as much as you do.

Well, what if they got a chat banned and lost an honor level as well? It wouldn't show up on their profiles, would it?

You don't get a chat ban for just a few games.
