The biggest threat to this game
Any guesses?
It's the community.
With all this doomsday talk and sexism controversy, I would like to remind everyone that the biggest and most real threat to killing this game is us. Think about it. This game was made for its players, so the thing that would undo it would be the players, too. It was supposed to be a safe space a community of gathering were we shared ideas and were free to be a little cloister. Now, we're the ones who are putting it at risk with all this hatred, anger, and distrust. Sure, Riot isn't a saint, but they never pretended to be. They make mistakes and we should understand that. Of course, this sexism thing (though I don't know much about it) isn't ideal but we have to stop and think that maybe Riot made a mistake. The way we treat Rito today is as if they're supposed to be perfect. They aren't. This goes for everything. We yell at Riot for making the "wrong" changes, buffing when they should've nerfed, exposing when they should've covered, made a skin when they shouldn't have, etc. They try their best to satisfy us but it's never enough to us. We don't realize how hard it is to accurately do all the things they try to do. Therefore, we succumb to pure hatred through ignorance. I understand perhaps Riot doesn't realize that they might've made a mistake and they need us to tell them, that's PART of the reason why the boards exist. However, they don't need a million voices debasing them, calling them out, when all they need is one that politely informs them. Since when did we become the world? Hating, debasing, all this toxicity, it'll destroy this game and this community if we aren't careful. I know I might get ripped to shreds for this but we all need to realize what we're doing and how it's sometimes so unnecessary. I understand people calling for Riot to change but I think we should be the ones who change, who put ourselves under a microscope and consider what's best. The fact that the front page is full of expletives and anger shows us that we aren't doing it. That we've forgotten ourselves. I'm incredibly disappointed in the majority of this community and sincerely hope we don't bring everything down upon us, because, if we think about it, it will be at least half our fault.
Please: don't debase Riot, they understand if they might've messed up and there's no reason to think they don't listen. They try but they're fallible just like all of us. We can all tactfully inform them of what's going down and how they might have made a mistake but there's no reason for hatred. Examine yourself, and hold yourself to a higher standard is all I ask. Don't descend to being savages or think you're God. Find the middle ground and peacefully and diplomatically conduct yourself or we risk descending into madness and ruining all that we want to uphold. Promote peacefulness as well as equity and this community will be able to become constructive and a safe space that it was always meant to be.
Thanks for listening and, Rito, I hope we'll be able to make this right as much as you want to make things right.
(P.S. I understand many of you may disagree or have other opinions so let's have a civil and open discussion below.)
