Has anyone else had a problem with Riot doing this?

So I got banned one random day about a week ago. Was having a good game, and then my account got suspended for no reason. I sent a support ticket in which they responded that I needed to answer security questions. I answered most of them to the best of my knowledge, and in return I got this:

So Riot, technically speaking, perma banned my account because I dont remember some information from 2009? This is insanely absurd that they can just ban my account which i have spent money on and had for almost 9 years! No proof of even suspicious activity, and no proof my account being "hacked". Has anyone else had this happen to them?

this is so fked up considering back in 2009 your E-mail didn't even need to be valid to create an account. Didn't send confirmation or anything. Just asked you for an email

You're full of crap. The last guy that tried this had a bunch of people beveling him, and it was only me who confronted the guy about all the holes in the story. A day or two later, a Rioter posted in the thread confirming my suspicions. I'm satisfied in believing that if you can't answer simple security questions then you're a liar.

On my smurf at the moment, but there was a time about 3 years ago where my main account was compromised, stolen, transferred to a different region, and then permabanned because Riot saw it was stolen.

I appealed, went through the same process that you did, and got my account back after about a week of providing the information. I too made my account in 2009/EARLY 2010, but I still remembered all of that information. Those are not difficult questions for the original account owner/creator. You should remember the answers to those questions, even if the answers are 9 years old at this point.

I'm happy Riot is cracking down on account sharing and buying/selling accounts.

I remember what champions I bought first. I wouldn't post that info on the forums as it's a part of account security. For all I know threads like this are just a trick to get people's info.

I haven't had it happen, but I'm super glad that they at least offer the opportunity for recovery when an account is compromised.

I think it is good that they do this. Why you may ask? Because literally they have no safety standards when it comes to buying RP. What do I mean? Once you save your credit card to make future purchases easier, there is no addition verification one needs to make purchases. If someone hacked my account and took over without my knowledge, they could be spending all of my money with ease thanks to the fact that once your card is saved in the shop, riot requires nothing else for you to make a purchase. No comfirmation code or CVD required. Just press buy and you're done.

Try naming some champions you unlocked early as well as early account RP purchases, you don't have to be exactly right just have it date far enough back. Also name skins you know you own, as well as a chroma if you know that and roughly when you got it (like a year ago, 3 months ego etc.) Be as accurate as you can to what information you relay. When I asked them to remove all my level 1 and 2 runes I had to go through this process and I just named like 7 champions I bought pretty early on and some stuff I spent RP on and it was fine.

How many different IPs did you log in from? Has the account EVER been played by another person?

Summonah1236910/27/2018, 7:14:42 PM3 votes

WHY RIOT, IT'S NOT LIKE I REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE INSIGNIFICANT, UNIMPORTANT DETAIL OF MY ACCOUNT.

Tilted Racoon10/27/2018, 11:01:57 PM3 votes

Ok so this happened to me just recently. I made an account while deployed and was unable to provide a lot of the information. My reason for contact was that after a game I was not granted lp for a win. To all of you saying these questions are not hard. You are correct they are not. However I can’t remember passwords that I made for an account two days ago. If I do not write it down I will have to cycle through all of my current ones and hope it works. Secondly. We are not informed what information is pertainent to keep with our accounts. Had I known this information would be handy I would have jotted it down somewhere. Third. And this pertains to my case I was deployed I legally can not provide some of the information. Why ban an account for this? All I wanted was them to look into a bug. Because of this experience with an account that was only a few years old. I will never contact them again with account issues especially on my main that was created in season 1. I’ve been playing this game far to long, seen and done stuff in my life worth remembering over the first 5 champions that I purchased. In the end it is a flawed process and needs to be changed.

Man I started in 2011, I really need to screenshot some of my info just in case. I didn't even remember my first champion.

masterlegendshee10/27/2018, 9:28:55 PM2 votes

Yes it has happened to me. It gave me an error code and i sent it to riot to help me out and next day it told me to change password and my permanent ban got lifted.

Sillae10/28/2018, 1:07:06 AM1 votes

My god I would lose my account permanently, wow.

Captainn Ginyu10/28/2018, 4:43:04 AM1 votes

sadly most customer supports do the same thing thats why i write down my questions and answers

Angry Tojo10/28/2018, 6:23:33 AM1 votes

Thinking about this scares me, I know my first champ and first amount of RP bought, but some of those things I can not recall. I wish Riot would add something like steam guard where they send you a text whenever you login to a new location so you'd have to enter in the code to verify it's you. That way it would be harder to steal accounts.

TL;DR I'm spooked and I think Riot should implement something like steam guard.

My account popperofski (one of my first accounts) was perma'd like this and I didn't play on it for almost a year, then played on it recently, then it got perma'd for literally no reason after being locked. Same bot-like reply. My mastery 7 gragas I worked my ass off for along with other bought skins just gone for no reason.

Janakin10/28/2018, 11:09:36 AM1 votes

You should remember the answers.

PowerSlave99310/28/2018, 12:07:52 PM1 votes

They are always replying these kind of shits. I myself wanted to recover one of my accounts and they said they can't recognize if it's mine. Well, fuck them. I'm done with their awesome support.

HateDaddy10/28/2018, 3:07:11 PM1 votes

I had to have something changed on my account, my email I think it was, but I wasn’t able to access the original email to my account. So I believe what I ended up doing was making a ticket and they asked me these same questions and I couldn’t answer most of them either. However, I mentioned that I remember Galactic Nasus was one of my first skins, that I bought the stater pack that had goth Annie in it and that accounted for most of my first champions and that I started playing around the time Lulu, Nautilus and Hecarim loading screens came out. That was good enough for them. So I’m not sure dude, I found them to be pretty reasonable.

Lmao why am I not surprised reading this, when this has happened to me 4-5 months ago but I got banned for being "toxic" whatever you say riot They asked the same questions you did and it wasn't even related to what I was trying to ask them through email also how is anyone suppose to remember things from 2009 that's a long ash time
