@RIOT YOU'RE WASTING A GOLD OPPORTUNITY!! + [ POLL ]

With many players disappointed with balance team performance, Riot could delay Season 6 and relaunch every champion and item at once, taking in consideration many new ideas in order to plain the field to make League of Legends truly balanced.

I understand that Riot have a long term planing and a schedule, but from what I'm seeing it isn't working, making small tweaks to a implemented feature without seeing the big picture isn't healthy. I'm sure mostly of the plan isn't going the way Riot first planned due to many "changes" being hot-fixed.

What Riot could do?

**1. **Delaying Season 6 and revamp the game, offering true balance and testing. **2. **Reseting PBE server, and offering accounts only to players willing to test the game for bugs and balance issues. ( And assuring they keep as a reliable source of information by making them send reports of some kind, once a week or once a patch. )

Or

**3. **Making a custom small server, like PBE, but more like a sandbox, with the ability to change any values, position, timers, cooldowns, items and champion scaling with console commands. This server will have the objective to give a selective player-base the possibility to come with their own ideas to fix some balance issues. I'm sure Riot Team have many great minds working on this game, but with many players working towards the same solution can propose some interesting ideas.

  • Riot could create a sub-forum for players of this server to post their ideas, which can help balance and dev team to really understand what players want in the future as well have palpable examples ( Videos, Values, Gameplay footage.. etc.. )

None of those options are realistic that is the problem. You have no idea how long changes take to program.

I didn't gave a deadline, and that doesn't mean the servers would be shut down, only a abscence of patches, except for hotfixes, for a major period of time.

And I'm talking about value changes, cooldown changes, scaling changes. They are way faster and easier than remaking of a champion, like Poppy or Yorick.

Here's a tip: when you make a poll, put in an option for disagreeing with everything.

WiegrafOfValor2 votes

Noted.

Care to tell me why do you disagree?

I'll do it point by point:

  1. That's not how any live balancing game works, with the exception of Preseason, where everything is done with the knowledge that it is not going to be balance. Everything in this game effects something else, if that has been made clear from previous changes, and trying to do that many updates all at once will not fix anything

  2. PBE is already a place to test bugs, and already has a lot of bug reporting going on. Ever look at the PBE boards? Those alone are filled with threads about bugs or other errors in the game; and this isn't including the "report a bug" feature in the PBE client

  3. If it is any at all evident, players do not know who to balance this game. Making a situation where players suggest what gets changed will result in the hated champs (Vayne, Riven, Zed, etc.) being completely worthless simply for the fact that people cannot learn how to properly play around them. And as for your subpoint on that:

Riot could create a sub-forum for players of this server to post their ideas, which can help balance and dev team to really understand what players want in the future as well have palpable examples ( Videos, Values, Gameplay footage.. etc.. )

They already have places where players can say "this is what I don't like about X": they are called the Gameplay and the Dev Corner boards

All of this then pales into insignificance by your very first line:

Riot could delay Season 6

In order to do all that you suggest, it would take at least a year. And I take it by your posting this that you are unhappy with the current state of the game, so are you willing to do nothing for an entire year while they do what you suggest? And what about pro players, streamers, and content creators, who depend on this game for income? What happens with them?

As you say, everything in this game effects something else, so releasing major changes chunk by chunk only make it harder to balance. And you're assuming that many updates all at once won't fix anything, on what grounds?

  1. PBE is already a place to test bugs, and already has a lot of bug reporting going on. Ever look at the PBE boards? Those alone are filled with threads about bugs or other errors in the game; and this isn't including the "report a bug" feature in the PBE client

PBE isn't being take seriously for some time now, look at juggernaught update, skarner and mordekaiser shame on worlds, now adc snowballing season. All of these has been warned by PBE community, but are ignored by riot, since many players are only using to make youtube channels, flame riot and cry about champion buffs and nerfs.

  1. If it is any at all evident, players do not know who to balance this game. Making a situation where players suggest what gets changed will result in the hated champs (Vayne, Riven, Zed, etc.) being completely worthless simply for the fact that people cannot learn how to properly play around them. And as for your subpoint on that:

Players don't know how to balance a game?? are you saying this on the forum of a product of player-mode made game of Warcraft map?? Are you serious? How many times Guinsoo and others hear that years ago. Other player-made games that were balanced by players are Counter strike, Dota&League, Portal, Garry's Mod, 3k of gameplay mods of skyrim. Your point is invalid, we have the same potential to judge the balance state of the game as the creators, we only have another perspective.

Besides, just because a vayne hater propose a nerf, the change isn't going to make towards live server, unless riot said so.

They already have places where players can say "this is what I don't like about X": they are called the Gameplay and the Dev Corner boards

But they can't propose values or make a footage of ingame effects of those ideas, which remain vague and ignored by riot, since they won't make changes to test random player ideas.

... none of the above?

It took a dedicated team how long to relaunch Poppy? Nearly a year? You want that to be done for every champion, all at once? That's not remotely feasible. Forget Season 6, it won't be finished by Season 8.

Riot's mentioned they don't want the PBE to be for balance issues, they consider it's population to be too small to get good data on balance issue. You want to make the population even smaller and somehow better for balance testing? At what point does that become not meaningfully different than their own internal testing?

A modable server would be used to create custom game modes, not for balance. "Too many cooks spoil the soup" would be the primary problem at play there, with too many ununified people trying to make balance changes the state of that server would always be worse than the live server.

I want a sandbox mode too, but not at the expense of the next season. To be honest, the people who would be in charge of making a sandbox mode aren't the ones balancing the game anyway, so delaying the season to work on it doesn't make any sense.

Who said anything about remaking skills, changing models, artwork or lore. I'm talking about gameplay balance, values, cooldowns, scaling.. Minor changes that probable they already working on it.

*** AND THE ONLY ALTERNATIVE THAT DELAYS THE SEASON IS THE REVAMP ONE, WE COULD HAVE S6 IN TIME + CLEANING THE PBE OR S6 + SANDBOX.

You did.

Riot could delay Season 6 and relaunch every champion and item at once

Relaunch means changing their models, artwork, lore, and skills. Sion and Poppy are relaunches.

I'm talking about gameplay balance, values, cooldowns, scaling.. Minor changes that probable they already working on it.

That's already being worked on. What good would it be to release it all at once? Releasing a ton of changes all at once is what caused patch 5.22 to be as out of balance as it was, doing it on a larger scale is going to make things worse, not better.

WiegrafOfValor2 votes

You're assuming that "Relaunching" means total remaking of a champion and using this to vomit your confusing opnions on my post.

If you make Zed's Q deals magic damage and scale with HP%, it means he have change, but it's a relativly easy change, since it takes only a few lines to edit.

  • And the patch 5.22 had it's issues but none of them is caused by large number of changes, the problem was Riot's focus on the matter. They are making it by pieces, how can we or they judge if those items are balanced or the champions if we didn't see the APC remakes? Remember when you said Juggernaughts were to destroy ADC because they were underpowered and useless on a Team Fight? Now with ADC Juggernaughts and Tanks are underpowered, mostly because ppl cry to much for nerfs on Tank items. Perhaps if they didn't nerf it, today we could be playing a more balanced game.
DrCyanide3 votes

You used the wrong word to describe your idea. You wouldn't use the phrase "I need to replace my car's transmission" when you meant "I need to get an oil change", those have vastly different meanings. Same with "relaunch" and "gameplay update", which is what you meant.

Gameplay Updates are things like the Juggernauts, Marksmen, Zilean, Viktor, Soraka, Sona, etc.

WiegrafOfValor1 votes

If I used the term that you disagree, fine. But now that you get the idea, your opnion still the same?

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

You're using the wrong term then. Relaunch means Sion and Poppy level.

And no, changing Zed's Q to that is not a few simple lines. Unless you are on the Riot software engineering team, don't think that things like that are an easy change

WiegrafOfValor1 votes

How can you say that is to hard for the creators of the game, since they change values on every patch until this day.

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

The change numbers. They do not change entire mechanics often

Togekiss241 votes

It took a dedicated team how long to relaunch Poppy? Nearly a year?

A Poppy rework was being talked about since Season 3. Try around 3-4 years.

And yeah, the OP is severely underestimating the amount of time and thought it takes to make even the most "minor" change to this game's champion roster. Riot hires professional game designers for a reason.

Great, many ppl dislike the idea without giving any insight.. People like that shouldn't be allowed to downvote.

Why didn't you like my post? What's wrong? Can you give a better idea?

I assume they just didn't like your ideas. Balancing isn't as simple as you make it out to be, and requires constant testing and consideration, it shouldn't be rushed. While i agree that a sandbox would be nice for people that want to test, it shouldn't be seperate from the pbe, it should be on the pbe itself. The people on pbe are also selected by riot, and get rotated around from time to time. You also added no other option, it's like saying "my idea is the only one that's right" and people don't like that. While this may have not been what you meant, it's what you come off as (to me at least).

Squarefighter1 votes

People don't agree because your proposals are pretty out of touch with reality. Don't take downvotes personally, remember that to the internet you don't have a face and all that we know aboutt you is what we can deduce from the post. Just straight up delaying the entire game to release champions one at a time doesn't make sense and is ignoring the multitudes of problems with that idea.
