Riot's idea of a Perfect Tank

Because with the removal of Crit reduction and the fact that ADC have item 3153 item 3036 and we don't have any defensive item that deals with Lifesteal, GW items doesn't fit any Tank build path item 3123 item 3165, Tanks are now just a giant potion to an ADC.

Thank you Riot, sincerely a Tank main.

We can even function as a potion with Stoneborn pact.

Tanks are supposed to die/get outsclaed by adcs who build those items.

Jesus tank mains want everthing dont they?

Ralanr17 votes

Kinda like how adc mains don't want to have a bad early.

Funny that.

dominusx11 votes

adcs have weak early? Lucian Draven Jhin Quinn Varus Twitch umad bruhhhhh :p

Ralanr5 votes

Twitch does have a pretty weak early if I remember correctly. Considering how much of a hypercarry he is.

dominusx5 votes

his posion is rather strong if used right.

Big Lincoln2 votes

twitch is probably one of the most bullshit lane cheesers in existence fam

Arsenic Sulfur7 votes

Lucian was a mistake, as he is ONLY damage and was a balance nightmare waiting to happen.

That's kinda Draven's shtick, and he get kinda gets left in the dirt of he is somehow prevent from utilizing his passive.

Jhin is pretty weird

Quinn is awful to play against...in top lane. You'd be hard-pressed to find them bot nowadays

Varus only has poke until level 6. He's fresh meat for your jungler if you freeze near tower.

Twitch has the best early game of the hyper-carries, but is still nothing that stands out.

KoKoboto2 votes

Idk why you were downvoted, ADCs aren't trash early and aren't that weak early especially champions like Lucian, Draven, Quinn who have outplay potential in their kits. The reason why people say ADCs are weak early is because compared to say fighters they have auto attacks and abilities, compared to tanks they have bigger health pools and able to wittle them down. In the early mid-game when champions have items the differences start to be more noticeable and ADCs are weaker but they aren't useless and can retaliate especially if you have the outplay potential. Get someone to underestimate my early game Quinn and give me some free kills :T

dominusx7 votes

because aside the fact the community is garbage at the game they think adcs should be strong and 1v1 everyone at all stages of the game.

WiegrafOfValor6 votes

They forget the fact that ADC should be bad at 1v1 and optimal in Teamfights.. but no, ADC mains want to 1v5 everyone.

WiegrafOfValor9 votes

Actually it's not the ADC job to deal with tank, it's their job:

Udyr Darius Fiora Garen Illaoi JarvanIV Jax Kled MasterYi Mordekaiser Olaf Trundle Tryndamere Volibear Warwick XinZhao Yasuo Shyvana

The only ADC that is an exception is Vayne

Ralanr72 votes

Actually it is the ADCs job to deal with tanks and high durability targets because they have the highest sustained dps.

It's just when they don't need to kite is when you get problems.

WiegrafOfValor9 votes

It's because you're new here, but it was always the Fighters job to deal with Tanks, the adc should prioritize squishy targets, if possible the enemy ADC at all times, the fact they hit tanks is because ADC should remain on the back line and if the Tank is at range ADC should focus them instead of moving toward a dangerous position.

Fighters in other hand should be the ones to deal with Tanks, since they are the front line holding the Tanks from getting to the back line where he will stop the ADC to deal damage on the priority targets.

ADC mains are so self centered they forget the items they cherish so much is in fact a Bruiser item.

Shyvana MasterYi Udyr Warwick Aatrox Jax Olaf XinZhao = item 3153 core item

And the LW path they take is wrong since it should be their job to apply GW on the enemy, reducing the heal and Lifesteal the enemy can apply on their team.

So..

item 3036 = Bruisers and Fighters item 3033 = ADC

Ralanr25 votes

I'm sorry, but how do you define "new"?

ZT Xperimentor17 votes

Did you join within the last year or two? If yes, then you're new here. The game has been going over 7 years.

Ralanr6 votes

I've been playing PVP since around the juggernaut update.

So about two years I suppose.

ZT Xperimentor16 votes

Then yes, new. I've been around since a few months after the game initially went live; however unranked because I couldn't care about rank before all the fame came to light, and even less now that it's arrogantly done so.

Marksmen were there to burn down towers & the epic monsters since they were the only ones with consistent damage over time.

  • Back when towers were actually crafted of magical stone, being both a danger to be near as well as an obstacle to overcome.

  • Before cooldown reduction, attack speed, armor penetration, & mobility was everywhere.

  • Back when marksmen actually took noticeable time to scale up at all; partially from the bonuses to 'first' time events, but more from riot bumping up gold & experience income across the board. Side note including double standards of effectiveness between classes\positions.

  • Back when peel had to come from teamates, instead of overloaded/overtuned kits.

  • Before towers took magic damage (the exception being rammus' ultimate). Mage's auto-attacks against structures may as well have been the equivalent of another minion, while melee champions were sluggish enough they couldn't compare to a marksmen when it came to demolishing objectives. The latter sparking a debate for years about how much advantage range gave when it came to teamfights, leading to xinzhao & irelia . . . which any old-timer here can tell you were terrors in their day.

Ralanr7 votes

Fair enough I suppose. Though just because I'm new doesn't mean I'm wrong in this regard.

ZT Xperimentor12 votes

Granted, though I'm trying to explain the difference in experience, to inform you why there's a difference of opinion. I'd prefer to be unbiased but I'm well aware I fail on occasion; so I try to point out previous events, to let people think for themselves instead of me telling them what to think.

Ralanr4 votes

I get that. Often I feel I run into bias more than information.

Not that I'm a saint, I'm plenty biased myself at times.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Well it's those glitches that make us AI. XD

OyddAWqJ5r3 votes

2 things.

  1. You're right, it is the ADC's job to clear the front line if they can't yet reach the back

  2. Sorry you gotta deal with people disregarding your opinion because you're "new"

ModCaptainMårvelous2 votes

Let's be clear about some things:

  • Mobility was always everywhere. This has been a problem since day one. It's why the meme "Every champ has a shield/dash/damage/nuke" was a thing. Attack speed/armor pen as well, although Season 3 was when it took a nose dive.

  • Not all marksmen took time to scale up. Some (Caitlyn Draven Ezreal ) would just shove you out of lane with ridiculous poke and scale upwards from there

  • Where have you been for the past two years? People have been incessantly complaining that ADCs are defenseless now and that they're entirely reliant on their team. Not to mention peeling has become even more common with the advent of some stupidly good supports (Braum, kench, etc)

And honestly, it's still the case that ADCs are the primary tower/monster killers. What HASN'T helped is that everyone (Riot included) has realized that the mobile tower killer/monster slayer is pretty much all ADCs are good for now. Riot's tried to remedy this by introducing ways for non-adcs to take tower (Mage tower slaying, Ziggs) as well as add stuff...but frankly, we won't see the ADC role change until Riot figures out a way to give non-ranged an easier way to take towers.

ZT Xperimentor3 votes

Oh really? out of the original cast at launch, how many had significant mobility (non-ultimate dashes/blinks) built into their kits? Alistar Jax Tristana 3 of 17 Compared to now where it's about half the list. However I concur that riot's design philosophy changing in season 3 was a major cause to the growing problem.

Indeed and they were early game bullies, bullies existed in every class & position; but the games lasted long enough for them to fall off. Not to mention riot has repeatedly buffed marksmen in the past 2 years to the point they're rarely weak at any point.

Not playing this game as much as I used to, I prefer strategy in team games, something riot has been removing for several years. Both directly (see the increased gold value of minions), and inadvertently (changing the way a turret's damage scaling works). I used to play around a dozen a day back in season 2 & 3, now maybe 2 or 3 games a week.

There was a brief time marksmen were replaceable, and it was finally interesting to play. It was a mistake giving marksmen spam-able mobility (see lucian & kalista), or excessive safety (see caitlyn & corki before and after the marksmen update). It's no wonder they don't need peel anymore, with damage and mobility creep being so out of hand, it ends up being pointless to peel; because the carry gets blown up before you can stop the enemy, or the enemy is so far behind that they get killed by the minions trying to reach your carry.

Towers haven't been that threatening for some time either, riot's been nerfing defenses (both of turrets & champions) since the beginning; most people don't understand the difference between buffed damage, and nerfed defense. They put a damage cap on towers years ago, sure they have built in armor penetration, but that does nothing against anyone with lifesteal. Hence marksmen & divers being better tanks than actual tanks. Not to mention tower ai-aiming has exploitable for years, and continues to after their updates; and with no utility to compensate for a lack of durability or threatening presence, they're basically just another wall to run around after the 5 minute mark.

Anidan1 votes

Before towers took magic damage (the exception being rammus' ultimate).

Hey, hey now, no need to forget pre-rework release Heimerdinger where his grenade damaged towers, too. As a result he could pull a Sgt. Hammer (HotS/Starcraft character) and slowly beat down towers from outside their own range.

But yeah, even then ADCs were partly there to burn through tanks. AD/AS/Crit means multiplicative scaling, and combined with armor pen (Last Whisper) meant they were the only champion archetype that could reasonably bust through them without external aid. This meant they were valuable not only for objectives and towers, but also for killing the enemy tank in decent time. The exception there was in champions like Ezreal and Corki who couldn't tank bust to save their lives, compared to other ADCs, due to their usual builds

I know you didn't say otherwise, I'm just tossing that out there while I'm here and thinking about it, and I like talking, not going to lie. Fighters weren't meant to deal with tanks, fighters were meant to be able to combat... basically everybody, but it took them a while to do it and they weren't incentivized to build into multiplicative scaling like carries were, and so tanks were often delegated to carries to kill since they did it just so much faster. I think I remember Riot saying that, in terms of balance, Bruisers were designed to be a bit above the "average" bar across the board. I'd have to do some digging because I'm sure they said that a long time ago and so it may not hold true anymore, but back then it was the case.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Oh yeah that was way back before they reworked him. I hadn't played him till a few months after that though . . .

Last whisper was more of an afterthought the first time since they've changed the order of calculations a few times over the years. And like other classes there's a few who stand out, for unusually particular playstyles to accomplish different goals. Before the marksmen overbuff last year, ezreal & corki & varus were the artillery ads; they kept varus to be more of a teamfighter while making the other two more of a hit & run style.

Fair enough, I know I can ramble for ages on a few of my favorite topics too, lol. Fighters were more of the flexible class than generalists, being between of tanks' durability & assassins' mobility & duelists' damage; they could build however they liked and be an off-type to supplement the team even though they can't do the job as well. I think you're forgetting mages, burst damage beats out sustainers in a fair fight, the difference is mages have downtime while waiting on cooldowns; as a cost for having either high power, aura damage, or significant utility. Besides there's only been a few good magic resist items for tanks, and one was deleted years ago; but we still have several armor items, though riot is nerfing them yet again. Bruisers also didn't have as much mobility, but didn't need it since it was before the mobility creep started up; they had durability & damage, so they could function like duelists while not worrying about being fragile.

I wouldn't say most of their older sayings hold true any more, since they've changed design philosophy & ownership over the years.

Anidan2 votes

You're absolutely right, I forgot to consider them for some reason. I know bruisers were typically good at fighting both carries, due to their combination of decent sustain and burst damage capabilities paired with their durability, and due to their durability they were also good at fighting the aforementioned burst mages. I remember a long time ago when people feared that in the future there would be no reason to play anything but bruisers since they were so well-rounded, and this fear came to a head during the Metagolem phase before that was nerfed down.

But I do also agree that many of their old sayings and philosophies aren't true, including my earlier skepticism of Bruisers being slightly better at just about everything by design--that has changed over the years, even though years ago that did hold true. Riot has fundamentally changed their approach to balance over the years, and whether that's for better or worse largely depends on your own opinions on what is and is not balanced.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

No worries, I know I loose track of things time to time, part of why I reply delayed is from attempting to double check myself. The metagolem & crit-steal, ahh that brings back some memories, at least riot made changes where it counted back then.

Indeed, though I'd point this out; back then most of the complaints were about unexpectedly strong situations (mage yi) and bugs (infini-flash), now days it's about how overloaded/unfair champions are (see anything oppressively meta).

WiegrafOfValor6 votes

Since you think it's the ADC job to deal with Tanks is safe to assume you're here from S3~S4 foward where Riot begun to breast feed ADCs.

Ralanr14 votes

So it's impossible to think that Riot is trying to push ADCs towards being a tank busting class and shifting bruisers away from it in that time?

WiegrafOfValor3 votes

So bruisers have no use then.. They can't Tank, they can't deal too much damage, they are mostly melee, they don't deal with tanks.. so what do they do?

Can you define what is the purpose of a fighter and a bruiser?

Ralanr15 votes

Brusiers are supposed to function better as hybrids between tanks and damage dealers. They can effectively do damage (at least to kill the ADC) and they can generate a lot of threat because of that damage.

They still act as frontliners and can still hurt tanks, but they as a group are not primarily designed to deal with tanks.

WiegrafOfValor3 votes

So they don't do anything good, they are just kinda there.. They don't have mobility to get throught the peel of a support and get to the carries, they are most likely to die to a carry for the fact they don't have tankness, they can't tank.. so they are just there for you to kill.

Nice ADC main thinking right there kiddo

not really, fighters have a better odd of surviving a fight with a tank

regardless it should be an individual strength because an entire class excelling at the same thing is stupid

Knoyle7 votes

You are overlooking one thing. These changes are all reducing hp bonuses for more resistances. These are actually indirect nerfs to bork due to how it works. Life steal is applied after armor calculation. If anything this should reduce how much life steal a marksman gets off of tanks.

WiegrafOfValor7 votes

You are overlooking one thing. The increase in AR value of the items will only increase the amount of reduction item 3035 item 3036 item 3033 item 3071 it applies, if you add the fact that now tanks have less HP, it's simply worse in all aspects.

Knoyle2 votes

and you are over looking the fact that that you will still have more armor than before after the reductions are applied.

If you were to lose 50% of armor off of 200 you would be left with 100. however If you basely have 300 you will have 150 instead of 100. Perhaps not a big enough difference but the math is still there.

Tanks need a lot of CC. Akali and Garen have almost nothing. Even Ekko really only has 1 hard cc.

Sammystorm1 votes

False. Tanks need either alot of utility and cc OR they need alot of damage. Basically they needed to be a big enough threat that the other team needs to focus them. Hence why Garen is such a garbage tank and Ekko was a good one.

On the note of tanks. Tanks with good consistent cc are rarely bad. They aren't usually in the meta but usually have higher then 50% win rates. Tanks like Maokai Sejuani Amumu Nautilus

Sorry to break your fantasy here but 3 of those 4 champs have winrates bellow 50%, two of them are bellow 48%. Sejuani, Naut, and Maokai haven't had winrates above 50% all season and Amumu's been bellow 50% for most of the season.

Most tanks are complete garbage right now, including most or all of the ones you listed, Amumu is arguable, the rest are not.
