How does teambuilder matchmaking work?

So i am trying to learn yasuo because i mostly only play ahri or diana, and the project skin is half off so i thought i would learn him. I got into a teambuilder game and i got completely demoslished by the enemy yasuo who was at least mastery 5. Why am I paired up with him? I thought I heard whenever you play a new champion that you get matched up with other people who are also relatively new to their champion and it gets harder each game, but is it something else?

Someone on their team was probably new to a champion but perhaps not the one you were paired against..

Teambuilder has just as weird matching making as blind..

Sometimes there's a random person whos WAY HIGHER ELO then you.. My friends a bronze and a silver went against a Gold V who has level 5 mastery with vayne.. But my friends were being a little off meta going ANNIE and BARD botlane.. well my friends turned that gold V Vayne into a feeder...

That vayne had a nasty attitude too, and every time my friends tried to FF I'd say No because I knew we had a chance and I wanted to beat the trash talking Gold V... We did beat them. Hard work, but it was worth. :)

So yea, It may get a little funky, but think of getting paired against a higher elo as a way of saying "Challenge accepted"

They may be hard to beat, but they're not impossible. Even my Plat friend who I occasionally play a normal game with can't carry miracles.. xD

What I really want is for teambuilder to allow 3's to get matched with duos. A lot of players queue duo bot lane because they don't want to lane with randoms. So when there's a shortage of bottom laners it might just be because they're all in their own rooms waiting for solo queued players for the other roles.
