4K support ... WHEN?

Riot, isn't it about time you give some love to the future of gaming...? Seriously I have a 4k display but the health bars on minions is so small it's ridiculous...

This has been mentioned so many times on the boards. 4K is not new... why don't you make scalable health bars for 4K displays...? When will you? Why haven't you?

2017 and 4k has been out for a long time now, there is even 8K, I think its about time you do something to help those who invested good money on quality displays but the health bars are so small it negates having anything that good. 21:9, ridiculous health bar size.

It's hard to believe this still hasn't been resolved. I suppose it's much better now, but my mouse cursor a speck on the screen and my minimap almost has no icons (turrets, champion portraits, etc.) I'm surprised this wasn't addressed during their "graphics engine overahaul" itself. Probably means there's still a lot of bad code hiding there that everyone's afraid to touch ;)

Ok sure but why10/12/2017, 7:50:13 PM2 votes

"But that would take effort for free, and Riot is a business" is what most people say to defend them on nearly anything

Wait, there's better news!

What I can commit to is looking into it. Converting the healthbars over into new tech allowed us to make them support 4k. Cursors and minimap icons and some other less important UI bits are still way too small as you noted.

Converting those other elements is not simple and not something we would want to take on, but there might be a stopgap solution which just allows them to scale.

Lets have a survey then Riot?!

quoted on Reddit "Priority-wise, there are no plans to do anything about this in the short term. We squash 4K specific bugs from time to time and make quality of life updates when we can, but this is likely the best we can do for the moment. There’s always a give and take with stuff like this -- we’d have to pull people away from a project like Replays or the new client to make a concerted effort on 4K, and as 4K is still a very small percentage of the player base it doesn’t feel like the right thing to do right now.

We’re continuing to think about this space, though, and if 4K continues to gain in popularity, it’s likely we’ll revisit it."

I played 4K on a 27'' and got used to almost everything. The chat is a little small, but I think the map is arguably more useful in this resolution. The only problem was the mouse which was so small, it would get lost constantly making the game unplayable.

As of patch 7.24, the scaling for health bars was fixed for 4K. So, I figured I would put in a ticket inquiring about a fix for the cursor and see what's up. This is what the rioter Corndog said in response as of December 12th 2017. Hope this is a satisfying explanation.

"Unfortunately as you've said, League doesn't yet support 4k resolution. We hope to have it implemented in a later patch, but it's not something that can be discussed at this moment. As far as "why not just make the cursor bigger", it's a matter of how the UI scales as a whole. When the resolution is bigger than the game was designed for, it would be a matter of sizing everything about the game larger, not just the cursor to fit. You can change this in a way, by changing the game's video settings to play in Windowed mode at 1920 x 1080, which scales the UI to fit correctly. I understand that this makes the game smaller, but that would be the only compromise I would have to offer, aside from scaling your monitor down to 1920 x 1080, which downgrades your monitor's image quality."

I just bought my 4k monitor and I am really surprised. 4k support is non-existent basically. I'd really like an answer on the reasoning behind this choice. Clearly, it is a choice. People who can afford a 4k monitor are the kinds of people who can spend on useless things as RP.

Riot, can you give us a more detailed explanation here? I have read threads from one year ago where you stated you don't have plans to add 4k support in the near future. Maybe give us an update?
