Fizz is a scapegoat

Fizz is being used as a scapegoat for players' dislike for assassin champions because he's annoying. Annoying doesn't mean overpowered, I've seen more fizz qq threads than I have in ages and most of them have something along the line of "fizz is annoying so he's OP" but he's really a balanced champion. I'll start with win rates 49.33% win rate and 13% pick rate across all regions, 13% is a LOT So he's played quite a bit that winrate is about 50%. It honestly amazes me how much hate assassins in general get they're always called OP but usually balancedish but annoying, it's how they're designed to be, fizz is no different. Fizz was pretty strong with grevious wounds but those are gone now. Here's a list of 11 meaningful ways to counter fizz, some of which work with other assassins.

  1. Pick counters like morg or Kayle
  2. item 3157 item 3140 etc
  3. Play around his .75 seconds of untargetability on a 12 seconds cd
  4. Dodge his ult
  5. Poke him from distance
  6. Focus him (once that E is gone he's screwed)
  7. Peel (if you let your Caitlyn auto him unmolested from the back line he dies fast)
  8. Ward, he's so dependent on roaming to snowball just neutralize that and it will help
  9. Position correctly and hit him with cc when he's most vulnerable after he uses Q and E
  10. Fight him when his ult is down
  11. get your jungler to camp him (if so many people hate assassins then your jungler should be happy to help)

Basically play smart in general and you'll be fine, he's not OP, he just has mobility, just like all the other assassin champions. Assassins don't work without mobility. All assassins are mobile, it's part of their intended design. Though it cycles between Zed, Leblanc, and riven Fizz has been used as a punching bag more recently for whatever reason.

These are pretty much tips against all assassins. Also, you down played a lot of his strengths. He gets 4.8 second troll pole at close to 40% CDR and more than just .75 seconds of invulnerability if he waits to the last second to cast Trickster. Fizz's passive makes him incredibly hard to trade against early game, because he takes tremendously reduced AA and minion damage.

I admit that Fizz in his current state isn't overpowered enough to warrant hot fixes or such. There are many other champions right now that performs much better than Fizz. Part of the hatred against Fizz mostly stems from how OP he used to be.

Imagine more damage on E, and a lot more damage on Q. Urchin strike was unavoidable, and in combination with Lich Bane and Sea Stone Trident, Fizz used to be able to deal close to 200% AP, 150% AD, some base damage, and an 8% missing health dot with grievous wounds on a 3 second basis. For a while, it was just Fish versus Fox mid lane.

It is the same reason people hate Teemo. The meta is really unfavorable to him now, but it is still frustrating to fight Teemo. People remember back when tanks were non-existent and a shroom can take more than 40% of your health. Worse, some might still remember when shrooms stacked.

I know how he used to be I'm just confused why people hate assassins so much. Hard to trade against unless you're playing someone ranged.
