Anyone else interested in the idea of a Champ Select Veto Button?

I'll basically copy paste what I wrote to Riot about this idea, see what you guys think

Ok, before I begin, please note this is a long, drawn out rant, more so than anything else. However, within this rant, I will make a few valid concerns, so please bear with me. I was trying, and succeeding somewhat, in attempting to go from silver to gold ranking. I ended up from silver 4 to silver 2 within a day. However, it was abundantly clear that upon reaching the level, there were too many people who didn't care, and trolled, were toxic, or anything and everything in not letting you succeed. And while it can be argued that we, as a community, have the power to remove such people via tribunal, that's not quite true. A majority of trolls tend to be repeats, a recent one where a pair of players duo queue'd and instalocked in. One argues that, "well, you report them after." I would like to point out that MOST PEOPLE DON'T ACTUALLY SUBMIT REPORTS. Whether because they derive some sort of twisted pleasure in having others fail or they don't care is irrelevant to the fact most players don't actually report things. In fact, in said game, I politely asked the enemy team to report, and was met with "Shut the F*** up you faggot" As you can see, not very reassuring.

Currently? As I write this, I am VERY upset, mainly because I cannot obtain gold due to a number of circumstances, and to be fair, it may very well be I'm not good enough. But I can't find out if there isn't an opportunity to try.

This is not, by ANY MEANS, a plea to give me gold. I would love nothing more, but that's not the point. The point is that Riot actually has to step into the community and immerse itself better, so it can better help regulate and control things. This community is incapable of self governing on many levels.

Things I would personally like? A veto button. One of the main issues is, the game I mentioned with the instalockers? They wasted half an hour, time I could have used to try again for gold. Except, it's clear you don't approve of dodging a queue. Yet, how do you expect people to enjoy a game when they enter it, KNOWING that they're essentially FUBAR? It's especially evident in ranked, when people troll to ruin other people's games. A veto button, essentially, would be offered if an entire team (or, in the case of a duo troll group, three of the five) agrees that there is a problem maker, and they wish to be returned to their lobbies. I can see the ramifications of such, all things considered, but say perhaps maybe one or two per day? At least giving people the option to not ruin their game, waste their time, and piss them off, as I currently am.

Please understand, I do recognize that your company works hard and tries it's best to help the community, and under no circumstance do I wish to sound ungrateful for all the things you have done for us. But it's no less frustrating having issues with players and the community. I hope, and pray, that eventually issues like this would be resolved, but most error spawns from human desires to be cruel.

As I said, I would love nothing more than for Riot to simply gift me that Morgana skin, but it is something I would have to earn, not be given (although to be fair, I wouldn't turn it down). But how can one try to earn it when the opportunity is not present? One could argue that these types of people are part of the trails, but that's not really true. It's more so an external experience that hampers the overall enjoy-ability of games.

I know my suggestion may not be ideal, as I am not part of technical design nor coding, so I couldn't do that even if I wanted to, but as a player who is feeling extremely frustrated in his inability to overcome the issues of trolls, feeders, and those who generally make life a living hell, I beesech you to at least consider looking into other ways of dealing with said people.

(This was not included in the message) Now, something else I would like to suggest, though this one will for certain be met with extreme player opposition, is punishments for players who do NOT report players who get tribunal bans. Maybe not full on bans, but warnings, etc, etc, I don't know, punishments like this would be difficult to do.

Now this one, I admit, is much more difficult, but I feel that a major issue spawns from people NOT reporting others for being toxic. Now I can see an argument being made for it being unfair, but If you do nothing to stop trolls and feeders, you are essentially as bad as they are.

TL;DR: I'm wondering how others would feel about a button that calls a vote during champion select which, if passed, would return all players to their respective lobbies. Some argue, that's unfair to other teams, but it's unfair to one team to go into a game, KNOWING there's a troll. Additionally, I would say that said button should have: Recognition of duo queues, thus duo queues can't beat the system, as well as it having the veto button being called on pointing out the troll. Thus, say you Veto a player, but no one else does, nothing happens to that player. But say that a lot of people veto out of games with said player, it can be grounds for a tribunal investigation or something along those lines. It doesn't solve those who troll once the game has started, but that is why we do have after game reporting. It just makes people who want to ruin someone's game ahead of time a lot harder. Additionally, consider handing out punishments to those who do nothing against trolls and feeders, as they are par tof the problem.

I can agree with the idea, but I wonder what abuses this could go through? What if people use it to get veto others for playing a champion they don't like? It sounds like this would get Urgot and Teemo players kicked all over the place.

  1. The season is over, its too late to get rewards. Getting to gold at this point is utterly pointless which is probably the reason you've encountered so many trolls. With the ranked season being over people arent really trying anymore. Your mmr will be reset or soft reset at the start of the new season anyway.

  2. I think you misunderstand what trolling is with regard to ranked champion select. Instalocking is not trolling, champ select is governed by pick order meaning that anyone above you in the champion select player list has priority in picking their champion or role. The term instalocking basically originates from blind pick normals where everyone picks at the same time and it is considered trolling. Perhaps your misunderstanding is just one of semantics, if the players are not respecting pick order than they are indeed trolling. Instantly locking in your champion or role when you have pick priority via pick order after someone else has called a role is NOT trolling.

  3. Your idea is bad for the reason that champion select and pre game generally takes a long time as it stands. Adding a veto would only add to that. Im pretty sure people dont want to wait 20 minutes just to enter a game.

That would be a great idea to have. I wouldn't care if the other team had to veto someone, so long as they have a fare fight and not get stuck with some ass-hat troll on their team that doesn't make the ENTIRE match fun because it was too easy. I don't want to be lucky enough to not get stuck with trolls for gods know how many matches to make it to the next rank! I want to test my skills against other people who are trying as hard as I am to get to the next rank!

Great idea, IMO. It would only have potential to be abused in Draft, when you don't like your team's comp vs theirs. I don't know how that would be prevented, but as for blind pick, it's a great idea that I'd implement immediately, were I a Rito dev.

add that and troll would just act friendly in champ select and troll in the game, leaving you with only a tool to free dodge game. :s

At best, a thing riot could put to lower troll impact is a "divide lp" buton, accessible only for player neutral or good regarding game behaviour, who divide lp gain/lost by 2 if activate in champ select.

That way, it lower the impact of a troll game at the end of it but could not be abuse either by troll (negative behaviour will disable the tool) or for safety as a win still divide lp gain by 2

How do you instalock in draft pick.....im confused....

Oh, it's the retarded "vote kick" / "free dodge" idea again.

Not gonna happen bro. Not to mention your idea would solve nothing anyways... on the contrary, people would troll the same or even more since now they know that there is this "veto" thing and if they don't get what they want, they will try and force the "veto" thing. Instead of "mid or feed" it would be "mid or troll (veto)".

Nothing would essentially change, only the fact that you would spend even more time on the champion selection instead of playing the game.

I feel like an idea like this would greatly reduce toxicity in the system, though for simplicity a 3/5 Veto would probably be just as effective (I think we all know what it feels like in most of those matches with a 15k deficit with those two people 'WE CAN STILL WIN THIS!' with 6 towers are down and you are desperately defending an inhibitor)

Plus it would also reduce the suckiness of having to decide between 'Dodge, and lose LP' or 'Stay, and potentially lose even more LP to a Troll' if you could manage to convince your team that one person needs to be removed from the equation, and entering the Queue again would be better than dealing with them.

I'll simply report everyone every game so I don't end up getting a warning/ban for not reporting someone. Your last suggestion is so stupid I'm surprised you even said it out loud. I'd be embarrassed to put my name on something like that.

We already get ARAM re-rolls, seems like it wouldn't be too hard to work that into Ranked re-rolls as well.

I like when people instalock. It brings the opportunity to break the meta lol Had to go Morde Bot with a Brand supp once... Destroyed bot lane so hard that I forgot to report the instalock-ers. Anyway, it would be nice to veto a pick from someone, but it can totally be abused real easy.

What would happen if there were four toxic players and they ganged up and vetoed the one non-toxic player?
