Hecarim and Mordekaiser current status on the Shadow Isles? (In relation to the new fog on his page)

So, everything written here is based off the current supposed leaked information about the new champion, nothing is set in stone, but some clarification would be nice.

So, to begin, I am asking what, exactly, the current status of Hecarim is on the Shadow Isles.

Given the new fog on a number of Champions pages, it can be assumed that those with fogs are traitors, seeing as the likes of Cassiopeia ,TwistedFate ,Lissandra ,Leblanc

are on said list

However, why, exactly, is Hecarim on this list?

I am fairly upset by this, though a majority of my bias is from the fact I am a Mordekaiser roleplayer

However, given all the information between Mordekaiser and Hecarim, many of the roleplayers had assumed it was Mordekasier was the traitor. The reasons include:

  • Mordekaiser was asked if he was a prisoner, possibly indicating he is a kept weapon/soul
  • Hecarim is told NOT to trust Mordekaiser
  • Given Mordekaiser's old lores, Mordekaiser was found to be stalking the slums of Noxus, indicating his actions seemed more based on his own interests, rather than the Isles.

Based on these, I, as a roleplayer, created my own interpretation of Mordekaiser

The basic summary;

Mordekaiser was once the Grand General of the Isles, leading the forces as the head general. However, (I based Morde's age as 1300, about as old as the Isles are from personal headcanons. Age can be disregarded, but it's mainly for fluidity's sake) around the 500-600 mark, Hecarim managed to take the position of the Grand General, on the grounds that Hecarim was more loyal and easier to control. Due to the often assumed position of the embodiment of Envy (For Mordekaiser), Mordekaiser began to scheme to take back what he thought was his rightful position. As time progressed, Mordekaiser began to think he would be a better king, and began to scheme a coup.

TLDR; Mordekaiser sounds more like the traitor given in game lines

So why is it Hecarim (Unless Mordekaiser set him up for the fall, which would be very cool)

Thoughts? Ideas? Arguements? Agree?

It is strongly hinted that he's the first undead, having emerged long before the shadow isles got corrupted so it's pretty obvious that he has his own agenda. But a traitor doesn't seem to be the character he's supposed to be.

Overall Mordekaiser might simply pursue his own agenda without betraying anyone,or he may have not betrayed anyone YET.

We don't know how loyal Hecarim is,it may be safe to say that he is loyal to the shadow isles, but does that mean he is loyal to the country or the king?Or may he simply use this whole "muhaha-shadow isles"-thing just as an excuse to fight war. Was he always loyal to them or did he belong to a different faction originally, like maybe he was part of a race of centaurs and betrayed those.

Karthus tells hecarim to remember who he serves, which implies that heca might betray(or betrayed already) someone

there's been quite a bit of discussion on this both in these forums and on reddit; Hecarim does seem like the odd one out. Then again, we know next to nothing about the history of Morde or Hecarim

Well since headcanons are basically useless in terms of character development (at the end of the day, it's Riot's way that's the canon way), what I could do is provide a theory.

When Mordekaiser activates the altars, the West says "I serve you because I must." The second says "I serve you GLADLY." Now this is a major key point, as their points at the altars may suggest that they are part of the magi who sucked the life of the land, the altars serving as these wells in which the life was sucked. Breaching the barrier between life and death granted them power and immortality, so the altars could be linked to this.

If that's the case, there may have been magi who were for, or against this plan, but were forced to by the Ruined King's power. Now this is where I separate into two alternate endings for this theory.

Alternate Ending 1- Mordekaiser is the betrayer.) Now because of the lines given to us by the altars, we can very much assume that Mordekaiser holds some position of power. Given what we got by old lore (although not credible anymore), we can assume Mordekaiser is some general of sorts, and his army is the Children of the Grave. Given all this new found power, he might want it for himself, disobeying the Ruined King's order post transformation so that he can bring pain and misery to others for the sake of his own benefit and pleasure.

Alternate Ending 2- Hecarim is the betrayer sort of kind of.) This would go along the line that Hecarim was loyal to the Shadow Isles. Mordekaiser is NOT to be trusted. What if he lures Mordekaiser into some bait, betrays him, and kicks him off the Isles and into the mainland? It would be odd though, since the Shadow Isles are off in the Northwest, and Noxus is all the way in the east. I'd expect geographical changes to Valoran and its surrounding islands SoonTM

Alternate Ending 2-A- Hecarim is the betrayer sort of kind of and has the right intentions but at the same time he still sort of kind of doesn't have the right intentions. Like Handsome Jack or some shit.) Long title aside, maybe some shit goes down with the Ruined King and Mordekaiser that he doesn't agree with. Something like who gets what, or if the Ruined King just does it all for himself and Hecarim believes him to have truly lost sight of what the islands could do. "Behold, the Might of the Shadow Isles" would make sense if he were to betray them, because he thinks that what he could do would be a much better representation of his land's power.

Given that Rito had Hecarim as the featured Shadow Isles champion in the Harrowing trailer, compared to say Thresh, I wonder if it isn't a more personal betrayal in this case. Like Kalista/the new champ marked the other six because of general deceit, but Hecarim did something to them personally...
