I love how I got downvotes on my post about Liandry's being a problem. All of them were like "It's a balanced item" Then Vandiril shows up like "Hold my beer"

Divewing2 votes

Vandiril doesn't do this stuff for the sake of saying things are OP (it's just basic clickbaiting), he does it because they are very niche, specific interactions that you are almost certainly NEVER going to see in a standard game.

ShuyinTheX13 votes

Did you see the builds he was using? At least 1 or 2 were viable builds for Morde. So yeah, you CAN and will see them, same reason people did the HP builds on Cho'Gath for Stoneplate. Vandiril did stuff for that too and see what happened. When something is freelo it will end up being abused.

Divewing2 votes

I mean, if doing nothing while you let morde ult kill you will happen across all servers and elos worldwide, then yeah, I guess something about it should be done.

ShuyinTheX9 votes

Here is the thing you're being illogical about, there is more damage being delt than just his ult and Liandry's. When Morde ults it usually means there is a fight going down. So while we won't see anyone attempt to just 100-0 someone very often, they will still use a build where someone will eventually die to his ult while a teamfight is going down.

Divewing1 votes

Then the discussion should be based around that, not some video Vandiril posted

ShuyinTheX7 votes

The thing is, Vandiril's video is still valid though because all that needs to happen is have the ult tag someone and have anyone take about 10-20% from someone's HP and they are guaranteed to die even if they get away, die a slow painful death over 10-13 seconds with very little they can do about it.

Divewing2 votes

I'm not arguing it, but for the love of god people just need to stop throwing anecdotes out with absolutely 0 context.

If you have a point, MAKE it.

If Morde-Liandry's is an issue, EXPLAIN WHY. Cover all the bases, "even in unideal circumstances, this is still fucked up because it would at worst chunk a champion for a massive amount of HP simply by clicking on them".

Slapping a video of something that has been deliberately exaggerated to the ABSOLUTE EXTREME is just lazy, and doesn't foster any discussion at all.

FutureCreator1 votes

It's obvious why when you see the damage that is being dealt in the video. It's meant to show the maximum power of the ability, obviously this won't happen like it's shown in the clip during a game.

Censible2 votes

Let's put it this way. Let's say that I grab liandry's first item and am still in lane. If I have glacial augment on, I can literally deal 120% of my opponents health in magic damage entirely with my ult and glacial augment. When you add my other burst to that, there's simply no counterplay in the early game without extreme heals and shields or a solid gank. Fast-forward to a late game team fight. I ult the enemy tank, pop my abilities on them, and that should deal all their health in damage without factoring in magic resist. If they have a shielding or healing support, the support has to choose between protecting squishies or their tank. Either way, I'm doing so much damage to that tank that they simply can't deal with it. It worth noting that an enemy team can sort of counter this. If the tank gets good magic resist and an adaptive helm with minimal bonus health and a healer/shielder on them, they can stay alive with ease. However, that means that the adc will obliterate them, so there you go. Oh, and let's not forget that his ult will give him a vlad-level heal while all of those fights are happening. Overall, needs a wee bit of a nerf I think, but I do like that morde is a bit stronger now. I mader my point, covered most bases I could think of, etc. The video was not exaggerated to absolute extreme, and the context holds for all champions. (I'm an m7 morde btw, so I know what I'm talking about.)

Azadethe1 votes

Or they first item item 3194 and completely negate your damage with that + Second wind.

Censible1 votes

Even with that, you still deal loads of damage, and you're forcing them to sacrifice their optimal build to counter you. If a tank takes item 3194, I just ult somebody else and waste their money. Ezpz

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Then like this, the issue is that morde with liandry is fully capable of taking 90% of someone´s health with a single targeted ability.

And he heals per tick as well.

There is a rather lacking counterplay aspect here,,,,,,and riot have actually commented on it in another thread stating that they are looking into it, because of Morde and other standard liandry users.

80% max health damage from a single instant ranged click is not very cool, even Syndra needs to stack sphere´s somewhere to get good burst off and she doesn't handle tanks.

It's over 10 seconds. You have 10 seconds to use counterplay. I'm not saying it's not overtuned. But saying it lack counterplay isn't true. Cleanse. QSS. Shields and heals. Lifesteal

Thefrostyviking1 votes

But how many champs can actually afford to build these things without giving up something very important they were meant to have instead,......meant to as in balanced around having.

Cleanse/qss/shields/lifesteal/heals are not available to many champions given their builds, as many still lack build flexibility.

Are you saying that those ones should just never go anywhere near mordekaiser?

There is also the point that those things are already barely covering the already considerably high damage in the game......

I am not a big fan on the idea of abilities that you absolutely must use an item to counter, it feels like one forces or is forced to build an item that may or may not be awful given your champion just to even stand a chance.

Against 1 single enemy champ.

I always found Malzahar, zed, lissandra (whenever her damage is good for some reason) and others to be pretty toxic because of that kind of mechanic in their kit.

Of course, if said abilities have high cool downs then fine, then it's a significant investment on their part to use said ability, but Riot have this tendency to let all kinds abilities have very low cooldowns post some point, like Zed whose ulti reaches 44 seconds or malz who goes down to a minute.

How are you supposed to punish their ability usage when it's basically available whenever you fight but the only counter has 3 times the cool down

#Edit"

Oh and cleanse does not remove any dots beside ignite!

Anyone using unsealed spellbook
Any AD can buy QSS Tanks can Buy adaptive helm which should cut that damage by alot

Cleanse/qss/shields/lifesteal/heals are not available to many champions given their builds, as many still lack build flexibility.

The days of building to counter everything has been gone for 2 seasons

That's still alot of counterplay options. More than a late game Marksmen AA will give you.

Are you saying that those ones should just never go anywhere near mordekaiser?

In the actual game we play unless you engage on Morde and he uses his ult defensively. He is picking a tank or a Marksmen. When I play Morde there is a dozen or more champions I avoid because they just free kill me. Sooooo yeah avoid your hard counters

There is also the point that those things are already barely covering the already considerably high damage in the game......

Not going disagree damage is too high. But when late game hits Morde becomes a burden to his team. Now he may just be a good late game champion again. Like he was in season 1-3

I am not a big fan on the idea of abilities that you absolutely must use an item to counter, it feels like one forces or is forced to build an item that may or may not be awful given your champion just to even stand a chance.

Cleanse isn't an item. Counterbuilding is an important part to playing the game. Well it used to be. Defensive items suck atm

How are you supposed to punish their ability usage when it's basically available whenever you fight but the only counter has 3 times the cool down?

Mordes ult has a high cooldown usually a minute and his itemization is light on the CD reduction

Azadethe1 votes

It's called magic resist and everyone has options for it. It's also called 'Second Wind'

Thefrostyviking1 votes

And so the damage is reduced from 90-100%+ max health damage to 30-70% depending on how much magic resist and if morde has void....when he has 270-350 AP.

Notice how cho died shortly post half the morde ulti when the AP was raised?

And the resolve tree either needs huge buffs or a rework to be a solid contender to the other trees, it just feels so bad to use it.

Heck even the precision tree with it's 20% tenacity feels more legit.

Azadethe1 votes
  1. Once again, Morde was stacking the Deck. Quinn has an Abyssal Mask to amplify his damage.

  2. The raised AP also had Elder Drake.

  3. The opponent was doing nothing at all to try to mitigate damage, no resist, etc.

  4. There's literally only 33 Mag pen in the game, and Void staff. Having 280 Mag resist doesn't stop you from having that resist if you are vs a Void staff. You'll still have ~ 148 resist and the item passives (like the one that reduces damage from same sources), and you'll still have your Health regen, life steal, or skills to heal unless it's late game, and even then it's 60% effective. There's also something called "Nullifying Orb" or item 3156 which stack.

You can also choose to run away, burn his ult without the rest of his kit, and then just go recover.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Fair enough for the first 3 points, but be realistic for the fourth point.

How many, even tanks, aside from seju, ever get more than 160 MR? ' :..Actually, squishies and damage dealers rarely get more than 1 MR item, which brings them to only around 100-120.

More than enough for even 270 AP morde to wreck havoc on their health.

And do remember that we are talking about a single ability here, one that heals and shields morde while he uses the other ones he has x)

Tell me how does a health build cho gath win that if the ult is already on him. you gonna die wether you do something or not you cant coutner play morde's ult ...as a melee

Azadethe1 votes

It's called engage with Grasp of the Undying + Second Wind, which directly counters 4% of the 10% per second.

and when you stand in his w what happens then. when he hits you with q what happens then when he uses e what happens then or is grasp and second wind gonna make up for any of those spells when you have to get in range of him or his allies to do that you lose 20% of your hp to flat damage spells just to try to coutner act a % max hp dot that can get over half your max hp

Azadethe1 votes

Depends on how much Magic resist you have. Sometimes it's wiser to just run and take the R only. Come back after R is out and your Warmog's has recovered you. The rest of his kit isn't intimidating late game at all.

which is why i said full hp build cho. while cho can build defenses as a tank cho doesnt want to build that he has a very strong bruiser kit. which requires him not to build 3 hp/magic resist items to work.

Azadethe1 votes

Pro builds says otherwise. The Chos there rush their 6 minion stacks, and get Champ kills and stack 13-15 times, and don't need as much AP. They just true damage to death on resist/armor items. HP builds don't stop Morde and never have.

Azadethe1 votes

Except the Cho didn't have a single meta item on it other than a Warmog's.

Meta items easily put him over 200-280 Mag resist, and 400-500% Health Regen bonus, as well as having interactive combat heals from Grasp and Second Wind. item 3194 Cancels this synergy almost directly.

You keep posting this crap.

  1. This assumes no Magic Resist, or actions to mitigate damage like a Life steal item or runes.

  2. It's a single target ult.

It's interesting for sure, but Magic resist blunts the effect as does sustain. We really just have to wait and see how it interacts with real play, not dummy play.

  1. This assumes no one else is dealing damage, or actions taken to mitigate health recovery like Grievous Wounds.

  2. Morde's ult gives Morde a specter if they die while it's active, giving his team another source of damage.

If a Morde in isolation can use a single button to kill almost anyone, imagine a 5 v 5 scenario where Morde isn't the only damage dealer and still has this level of potency with a single ability.

Malicious Metal12 votes

One of the main things people bring up as a counter argument is Morde not always getting to the ADC. Morde is a Juggernaut and while he does prefer getting ADC clones he is very target agnostic with his damage and can just shred a tank in a matter of seconds.

Sometimes R'ing the tank's THE best choice anyways since Morde gets a huge heal from that as well as a big boost of HP, and some tank clones have useful passives like Braum or Naut.

Or any of the melees like Jax, Yasuo, Yi or Trynda.

because cho gath gets lifesteal and magic resist and not ap and hp

Azadethe2 votes

Whenever Cho'Gath kills an enemy or destroys an enemy structure, he restores 20 - 71 (based on level) health and 3.5 - 7.75 (based on level) mana.

Also, Current Cho Gath Meta:

item 3800 (health Regen bonus) item 3193 (Magic resist, doubles max HP) item 3001 (Magic resist, per cast heals) item 3083 (Health Regen) item 3194 (Health Regen, Magic Resist)

Furthermore, Cho can actually also get item 3065 to boost all that health regen.

No mag resist? These items are being extracted directly from Pro builds.

Almost none of them stack AP.

Furthermore: They get Grasp of the Undying, and Second Wind as Runes, with Conditioning.

The Second Wind alone heals for 4% of missing HP per tick of the Ult (while taking 10%, so that's roughly 36% or so cancelled).

Grasp also heals often in long exchanges.

Think before you reply :S.

P.S: he trolled by giving Quinn aitem 3001 to boost it and "prove" his experiment.

He also gave Morde Elder Drake for True damage addition.

AlienPrimate4 votes

She fed Cho his stacks to get 10k hp. Her ult allows her to get back to lane really fast thus allowing her to feed more often which is the reason for the champion choice.

kargish1 votes

She had item 3001

ESeTyRC3 votes

As interesting as this is, I think it'd have been better if the Cho was at least given some magic resist.. Just to see what it would take to make the R 100-0 something that built MR instead.

Being able to 100-0 a champion that didn't build any MR with that variant of Liandry's is kind of a no-brainer..
