40 Changes Riot could do to promote Diversity

The game is more varied and interesting when there are multiple ways to itemize your champion, and different ways to play them. These may not all be good ideas, but I'd love it if any of them were implemented.

  1. Change Volibear's Q damage to scale with Total AD - This makes AD bruiser items like Sterak's Gage and Titanic Hydra more appealing.

  2. Add a Bonus AD ratio to Twisted Fate's Q - This makes AD Twisted Fate better without affecting AP Twisted Fate.

  3. Change Ashe's Q to apply on-hit effects twice, or change W to apply on-hits - This makes on-hit Rageblade builds possible.

  4. Add AP ratios to Ashe's Q and W - AP Ashe.

  5. Add an AD ratio to Ahri's Q and/or W - Ahri actually has a pretty good kit for an ADC (dashes, self-peeling charm) so this could be somewhat viable.

  6. Turn up Akali's AD scalings just a little - AD bruiser Akali (probably not a good idea if I'm being honest).

  7. Raise Bard's AP ratios - AP Bard just for fun.

  8. Add an AP ratio to Blitzcrank's E - AP Assassin Blitzcrank.

  9. Bonus AD scaling to Braum's Q - Bruiser Braum.

  10. Add a Bonus Health ratio to Diana's W shield - Bruiser Diana.

  11. Increase base damage on Ekko's spells - AD bruiser Ekko We already know how that turned out.

  12. Change Ezreal's Q so it can crit for like 20% of his AD - Makes Crit Ezreal builds potentially viable.

  13. A little bit of attack speed scaling on E would actually make stuff like Phantom Dancer more viable on Garen.

  14. Give Fizz some bonus damage to monsters and he would make an interesting jungler. Could be OP since laning is his biggest weakness.

  15. Give Diana some bonus damage to monsters and maybe she could be a jungler. Wouldn't that be crazy?

  16. Jinx could conceivably be a good jungler if Pow-Pow had bonus attack speed against monsters.

  17. Kai'Sa could be a jungler again if Q did bonus damage to monsters. (Note: bonus damage to monsters can be an unintentional buff to laning, and taking objectives lategame).

  18. Karma could be a solid jungler if she got some mana returned when she uses W against monsters.

  19. Brand jungle would be possible if he got more mana for killing monsters with one of his spells, or his passive explosion.

  20. Aurelion Sol could be jungled if he had better sustain.

  21. Bring back Karthus jungle! All he really needs is some way to keep up his mana, maybe doubled restoration from E when he kills monsters.

  22. Can Kayle jungle? I don't know. Give her more passive damage from E maybe.

  23. Speaking from experience, the only issue with laning Master Yi is that there's very little you can do in a losing lane to farm safely. That could be solved if he could cancel Alpha Strike to return to his starting position. That would be a pretty huge buff though.

  24. Give Leona AD scaling on any of her spells and she'll become a viable toplane bruiser.

  25. Lissandra has great jungling potential if her Q didn't drain mana so fast.

  26. With some adjustments to her numbers like mana costs, base damage, base shield amount, and AP scalings, Lux could be viable as both a support or a midlaner.

  27. Malphite could be a rock-solid jungler if he dealt more damage to monsters.

  28. Revert Malzahar and bring back AD Voidlings.

  29. I was going to say something about Layn Kayn, but he might already be kinda viable.

  30. Morgana is another mage that's really close to being a good jungler. Probably just needs better mana sustain.

  31. Nautilus would be a good jungler again if he just killed monsters faster.

  32. AP Master Yi could be viable again (without being broken) if he had a modest AP ratio on Alpha Strike.

  33. On-hit builds could be fun on Rek'Sai if her bite and/or her ult applied on-hit effects.

  34. Shen could be a lot better in soloqueue if he had some AD scaling to take better advantage of bruiser items.

  35. Bruiser Taric could come back to toplane if he just had some higher damage from his passive, or bonus AD scaling.

  36. Toplane Udyr probably just needs lower manacosts to be a good pick.

  37. I don't know enough about Orianna to know why she isn't played bottom lane; it's pretty good on paper, she can trade basic attacks thanks to her passive, and all her spells are AoE. Probably just too mana-hungry.

  38. Viktor is another mage with a kit that could lend itself to being played as an ADC. Naturally auto attacks a lot and has good kiting tools. He just needs some AD and/or crit scaling on his abilities.

  39. Xin Zhao used to have a lot of ways to be built, but now he's always built with armor pen and/or standard bruiser items. He could build Bloodrazor/Rageblade if his W applied on-hit effects, and he could be built crit again if W dealt bonus damage scaling with crit chance.

  40. Zac could be played full AP, or AP bruiser again if he just had higher AP ratios.

I support the meaning of your post, more diversity would be great.

Diversity is a joke to Riot. HAHAHAHAHA

Jungle Malphite was a thing back when you could start the game with more than 10% Attack Speed :(

Diversity of builds is not a good thing. When a champion has too many options during game is when they're too versatile to be fair to play against.

The ideal of such an idea is that you'll have many options and so will the enemy, but what actually ends up happening is that the champion just has such good scaling and base stats that they can build pretty much anything and still do well on stats alone, and the play style remains unchanged.

That's why items need to be designed for classes of champions, and why champions who can abuse items not designed for them need to be changed.

For just a few major examples:

How fair is it that your MR meant nothing when Ekko and Fizz simply swapped to sustained damage by building full tank? when your lead and armor meant nothing because Xin could just build AP, when Yasuo didn't have to build crit, so Randuin's meant nothing, or when Ezreal was buying a jungle item at mid lane?

Answer: it wasn't. Because when a champion's intended weaknesses are completely covered by base stats high enough to build pure defense and/or scaling high enough to remove lack of damage, they leave no room for counters.

When anyone can build whatever and still perform, then there is no item balance.

These situations come up a lot in ARAM, for example when you build magic resist only to realize the enemy Kennen and Teemo are both building AD. My opinion is that it's not a serious problem; it's a great strength of the champions that they can adapt like that, but it isn't unfair to play against because the magic resist will still be useful against their lightning and poison damage.

No, no it won't. Because that's not the portion of the damage they'll be killing you with. And it's not a problem in ARAM because ARAM doesn't matter at all. Sorry to break it to you.

People still play to win in ARAM, myself included. It's not frustrating to me to play against an Ekko who decided to stack magic resist or whatever.

Playing to win doesn't necessarily mean taking the game seriously. And we're not talking about Ekko stacking MR currently. That'd just be stupid. Obviously you won't be frustrating when an enemy is troll building in ARAM.

What OP is suggesting is that champions be given the scaling to make such a thing strong, not troll.

I don't think riot likes diversity. Some of these ideas I could get behind.

Diversity is overrated.

Stuff like AP Yi is not needed as it doesn't change the playstyle of the champion
