The state of Veigar

Veigar is the only champ in the game that has ever made me get frustrated in league. the problem with Veigar as I see it is that punishes players for doing well with his ult, and the point and click nature of his E means he can stun you without any chance of you dodging. As an AP mid, generally building buckets of AP feels good, because your success in lane/teamfights is rewarded with more raw power for your abilities. Against a Veigar, however, when you build AP, his damage increases. I wish Veigar had a few changes, mainly

  1. Remove his ult's scaling on enemy AP. his ult already has 300 base damage at level 1 with a 120% AP ratio, it doesn't need such a backwards addition. If needed, replace that little tidbit with something else more fun to play against.

  2. Make his stun dodgeable. I think a .5, .625, or 1 second delay would save players the frustrating experience of feeling like you died and there's nothing you could do about it.

Veigar would definitely need some compensation for these changes and that is totally fine with that. Just to be clear, I don't want to gimp Veigar and make him useless, I want to make him more fun to play against. Also, I don't think he's too powerful as he is right now, just anti-fun.

So what do you think? Are my proposed changes a good idea or I just whining?

I've always had a problem with his kit. I think if they changed his ult and removed the autolock nature of it, and made it a skillshot I'd be ok with that change alone. Nobody should get a guaranteed one shot that can never be dodged.

Since I play a decent amount of games as veigar, I want to just say qq rage more...but at the same time, his ult is ridiculous. The base damage and ap ratio means that late game, just pressing r on an adc will kill them (nearly). Now put that 80% ap and target their mage...one shot, no combo required. I guess the only consolation prize is that while that ult is down, his damage is considerably lower and he can't just r the mage to win. It is pretty "not-fun" while his ult is off cd, maybe replacing the ap ratio with some boost to himself after using it? A large movespeed buff(short duration) would help him kite in and out of fights but I can't see it being too strong, not considering he's losing massive damage potential( figure 400-800 ap on a late game mage, with a bonus of 320-640+- damage from that AP). Or maybe a yasuo style buff, giving him Magic Pen for a duration? That could be interesting. it would switch veigar to a one shot burst mage to maybe less burst but more sustained damage. In terms of his e, a very good player probably won't miss the e (not meaning myself mind you, I miss :3 ) but it is semi-hard to hit, and is justly rewarding for when you do land it, imo. Thoughts?

Also consider how quickly a banshee's counters poor little veigar

Not really at all. You poke it off with Q. Deathfire+Ult still hurts like crazy.

Veiger is extremely squishy and extremely slow. If you want to counter Veiger focus your build on magic pen, hp, and magic resist ap items. Banshees veil might just stop him from stunning you. You could try outranging him as well but given he has targeted spells and high ap ratios you will want the magic resist. Another point is that hes an anti mage champion so if you play a mage you have reason to fear him. So survive his burst and then he has nothing but q to hit you with, dark matter is easily dodged.

If someone has 800+ AP and they get one-shot by Veigar's ult, they should of Zhyona's.

I've heard this argument before and honestly it's rather silly for a couple reasons. For one, that's far too much dependence on just one item, which limits build diversity. Secondly, if you zhonya's near a Veigar, prepare to eat an undodgeable 2.5 second stun once you come out of it which in a teamfight scenario generally means you are dead.

I would like to see veigars kit twiked to show that he is a master of magic I mean would a true master only have 4 moves in his kit no this is were i propose that certain combinations of his kit make his skills different say his q going through the prison walls would make his q travel longer or split shot. and his w with an immediate q would make a line of comets not just one or w in prison would hit the vertexes of the prison while also hitting the middle. I think veigar should get a rework to show his mastery of magic and not be a AP addict that focuses on burst damage only.

I just bought Veigar again and got NO kills and 5-7 deaths. Can anyone give me a strategy or build for him so I can consider trying him again (and I totally agree with Squarefighter so he's easier to play for newer players)

whining because veigar has been and continues to remain one of the most balanced champs in the game since his most recent patch notes from pre-season 3 because of just how absolutely weak he is early and even early mid game that is he is shut down he is nothing but a stun on a 1 second cd which is not exactly a low cd. veigar relies on his absurd ap scaling because of the fact that he has 3 damaging abilities, no escape, squishy, low base stats, and the cd on his stun is 11 seconds at full cdr which most veigars dont exactly prioritize. being a late game monster is all veigar is. he is so weak early it may as well be a 4v5 before minute 16 or whenever he hits level 9, also because he relies so heavily on farming with his q to gain power for late game that he is almost always out of mana outside of fights sure the passive makes up for it slightly but lets not forget his w is a 120 mana cost ability his ultimate costs 225 mana he e 120 mana and his q 80 mana, therefore he requires very close to full mana to use a full combo. i dont understand why people complain about a champion that is so clearly balanced and cry about a stun that can be used once per teamfight (two if you are lucky) or the fact that if you left him alone to farm for 20 minutes then complain as to why he deleted your champion when if you just denied him farm and pressured his lane you wouldnt have to watch yourself go "delete" everytime you try to fight him

Riot themselves have talked about how toxic he is to play against. My argument is not that he's too strong, just that he lacks counterplay and has antifun mechanics.
