Nautilus top will probably become too strong next patch

Nautilus has been performing very poorly for most of season 7. The new masteries have been kind to our favorite deep sea titan and he has started to fair well in support and top. The item 3068 buffs coming next patch will probably push Nautilus over the edge at top lane. He will most likely be nerfed because of them.

Nautilus has been difficult to balance ever since Riot shifted power from his W (Titan's Wrath) to his E (Riptide) in patch 5.5. The change did not make Nautilus jungle too strong. What it did do is transform him into monstrous support who burst adcs and supports at bot. His E base damage was appropriately nerfed, but he at the beginning of season 6 he became an uninteractive lane bully at top lane due to the spammability of his E. He then proceeded to have his E base damage lowered again and later his mana regen values reduced as well.

The above nerfs to Nautilus were warranted considering how strong he became, but they made his jungle very weak. He never received any sort of compensation buffs/changes to his jungling.

I am not mentioning Nautilus's balance history for no reason. I am doing it to show that a cycle with Nautilus balance has began. Where nautilus will become overwhelmingly strong top/support, get nerfed in all his roles including jungle. Become strong top/support again due to mastery/item changes get nerfed in all roles including his jungle. We are approaching another one of these nerf cycles.

I STRONGLY encourage riot to give Nautilus compensation to his jungle if they directly nerf his numbers. If nautilus loses 10 base power on his E, please give him 10 bonus damage to monsters. If Nautilus needs to lose early game durability in his W sheild, please give him a small amount of damage reduction against non-epic monsters to account for the loss.

If you have managed to read to this point of this very long post, then you are probably wondering why I so badly want Nautilus to receive compensation to his jungle. It is because Nautilus is too difficult to balance at top lane because of his kit and Competitive.

Nautilus is a pretty simple champion without anything complicated in his kit. As a top laner even when he is weak in solo queue, he is still picked in LCS due to his utility and safety. I feel that it would be best for Nautilus to be shifted toward his jungle. I have been playing Nautilus since the release of Varus back in season 2. I can only recall 1 direct nerf to Nautilus, until his changes in 5.5. He is clearly more easy to balance in the jungle. The request for jungle specific changes above are to allow Nautilus to be viable in the jungle regardless of how much popular he is in LCS or how powerful he becomes due to changes at top/support.

tl;dr: Nautilus is doing well as top/support since the mastery changes. He will be nerfed due toitem 3068 buffs pushing him over the edge. If he is nerfed, I suggest that riot tries to compensate his jungling.

Yeah he probably will. I feel like Shen was nerfed more preemptively than anything considering he will also be rushing Sunfire Cape every single game now to, and he has always been one of the best sunfire users.

We'll see what Riot does to other sunfire users.
