Could we remove normal MMR and just equal it to your ranked MMR?

I'm a diamond EUW player with a dilemma. I can't play a lot anymore due to life n stuff. Now I find picking up new champions to be ridiculously hard, especially if they're any team oriented type champion.

Here's the thing, I don't have the time (anymore) to put hours upon hours into gaming. So I can't play ranked AND have a normal MMR that's anywhere near my ranked MMR. This is the dumbest thing ever when picking up roles/champions outside of my comfort zone, because there's no learning involved when you're playing with and against people that are 2/3 tiers below you. The only way I've really found to pick up new champions is to just pick them in ranked and pretend I know what I'm doing.

I just feel like I can't play soloQ normals. Because it's literally not fun to stomp or get stomped depending on luck because matchmaking doesn't know what to do with people who don't play that specific mode (even though it's the same mode as ranked games). But I don't know how fair it is to my teams in ranked to just literally play ranked games as chill learning games (which I kinda have to do right now :/)

What is you guys' opinion on the matter? Are there maybe some custom groups that deal with this issue? (I'm thinking along the lines of the Platinum vs Silver groups, but then one for people on my situation? :/)

I could see this, the only problem I have about it, is the people who rarely or never play ranked will get screwed.

My friend just did his 10 placement matches just so he could get a border for the first time this season... He's S5 after placements and never plans to play ranked again... It'd be stupid if he was stuck with Silver level players while he himself is easily at the skill level of Gold-Platinum.

The only thing I can say is... Stick to 1 mode or another. Maybe do ranked until season rewards then focus the entire off-season to getting your normals MMR up.

I could see it placing a hard-cap bottom on the MMR...Would be interesting.

not to me because I have play rank for a long time and when i reach my goal,I just want some relax time. It will be too much pressure if you play so hard in each game.

OP, some practical things you can try:

  • Team Builder. It takes into account your experience with roles/champs, so (in theory at least) it should give you fairer games both when you're learning and when you're on a champ/role you are already good with. Eventually.

  • A smurf can get to high MMR in Normal matches much faster than a L30 account that's already played hundreds of matches. If you create a new account, pick the "I'm really experienced" option, and do really well, you'll be up against nothing but other high-skill smurfs in no time.
