Mordekaiser: relic shield recommended?
Why is the relic shield a recommended starting item for Mordekaiser regardless of the queued role?
Is there something I'm missing?

Morde is designed to be played with 2 people in the lane and his abilities cost HP. It allows him to heal himself and his lane partner after being poked as well as provides a little extra gold for your support.
It's a left over relic (shield) of when Riot went crazy and tried to make him a duo laner. Riot just didn't care to update his recommended items when he got balance changes to go back into solo lanes once again.
If you do take Morde into the bot lane, it's a good buy on him.
You still buy it if you go ADC Morde.
