Liandry's Torment has one job, and fails to do it well.

item 3151

This item used to be a split personality statstick that gave minor burn, 15 magic pen and 300 health with some good ap on it. It was used by essentially every magic damage dealer as the stats it offered and synergies with alot of champion's kits, for bursting [Katarina ] and for DoT'ing [old Swain] this item was a strong addition into those playstyles, which was why it was changed.

The new Liandries now, offers nothing of real importance aside from its old stats and a 10% damage amplification over 5 seconds of straight combat, and with the removal of its pen the item was dropped by almost every bursty AP champion in favor for DoT oriented playstyles, which seems good on the most part with its change to 2% Max hp damaged (when doubled) and the amp.

Except- The item is much less rush able now, and as a 3200 gold item, you would expect it to be a power component to a build, and in some way, it is. Most DoT champions opt in for {{item:3136} for the damage passive and often finish liandry's at about 2-3 items despite it trying to be an enabler.

The burn feels consequential, and even lack luster in comparison to the actual damage stat, as most characters with second wind + dorans shield can outright ignore the full item with even cheaper buys like item 3211 and even item 3111 to cut the duration of the burns effectiveness, especially when taking into consideration the item does LESS than the old liandry's until their target is directly below 50% hp, which is indeed harder to achieve against opponents that can sustain themselves past the harass. Tanks in general with their own innate hardiness generally can ignore enemies who build this item and free farm as they eat skill after skill with no interactive input from neither party, eventually giving the other a choice to also farm out the lane or risk wasting all their mana and being out of position when a gank arrives.

The item feels like a failed attempt to give a niche to an item with an identity crisis as the initial points for the change overall make the item feel weaker to its own group of champions and feels punishing to buy against targets who so much as dip 450 gold into a item 1033.

Perhaps the item can get some form of shred or a cost decrease to avoid breaking Mordekaiser? Or maybe the burn itself can have its own penetration to boost the effectiveness in situations the item should be decent in?

Yeah blame some YouTube viewfarmer for the Morde hysteria.

Honestly there are some game I don't even build it anymore. Straight AP is usually better. How fucked is that

No, blame Riot for being fucking allergic to making AP items anywhere near as powerful as AD items. Look at what they did to Seraph's, then look at what they just did to Sterak's.

The problem is that they gave most tanks AP scalings. So they can't make the items too good otherwise. Angry ADC mains getting killed by tanks

Yeah, that doesn't really fly when you look at Sterak's, Titanic, and Trinity > Tank. Hybrid ADs running around putting out thousands of damage in a couple seconds with 4k+ hp pools, defensive utility/healing, and shields proccing for 75% of bonus hp. Jax, WW, Irelia, Hecarim, etc can build those three items and end up far tankier with way higher damage/dps than Alistar, Malphite, Mumu building Liandry's, Rylai's, and Morello.

The point is that ADCs and APs are already getting killed by champs with carry damage/burst and the stats of a tank, but it's fine because those champs build AD items and use autos? It's the functional equivalent of AP Diana and Elise running around with 4k hp and healing for 15-20% of their damage. Or a 3-4k hp Akali with hard CC.
