Bronze 4 and 5 is worse than unranked.

Except it's not, when I get teamed up with 'braindead' people as someone called them, I go wtf and look it up and then it's all explained. I've been placed with an incredible amount of unranked in the past few days, it seems. Unranked won't even leash (compared to bronze that might steal it) and would just sleep in their lane no matter what happens 2 feet around them, that's just a few examples.

Then you are near the average point, in this case, 1000-1100 which is what I suspect their average point is (closer to 1000 than 1100) but Dota is 1200 if I recall and the old elo system used 1200 as a base.

Honestly. From what I see in Bronze, doing nothing is STILL better than the decisions they make, they seem to actively try to harm their chances at winning. Their entire mindset and how they think about the game is just wrong

Any advice I can give to bronze players, is to just completely reevaluate how you play the game, how you think about the game, your mindset and composure, as well as your learning strategy. It should take a player a week if they are in bronze 5 to get to the skill level of a silver 5 player if they are teaching themselves properly.

Treat it as learning a sport (if you ever have, most people haven't I think) as in, focus on each individual part of your game, and work on it until the time spent working on it is inefficient until you've risen the other parts of your game up. Be completely objective when you watch your play in replays and seperate yourself emotionally from the game 150%. Emotional separation is the MOST important part of improving when you are that low. You cannot be playing solely based on how you feel that day if you want to rise at all.

In my case, I am a very cerebral player, as I played starcraft and drilled macro until I got headaches for an entire week during spring break as a kid. As a result, I facerolled people even though I had no idea what I was doing, then I figured out what I was doing from there, and worked on smaller parts of my game until I became master league. Get the bulk of the mistakes you make out (mindset), shake the shit off (non-emotional play), play, learn (work on extremely specific aspects of how you play), repeat.

You said it's better to do notihng, but I disagree, if you're a Garen and your Fiora is answering a river fight and you're not following, like I said, 2 feet away from your lane, it really looks like you're feeding, when a 2v3 fight is happening and you can literally just take 2 steps and do nothing, not even auto, but simply tank a few shots, being fkn Garen.

As for the rest, offtopic as it is, I agree that the emotional part is a huge impediment mainly because of the number of trolls atm. Not sure if being completely uninvolved is key, as sometimes I take it as a reason to prove them wrong, improve and shut them up. And sometimes there's games won solely based on cheering people up, from minute 1 AND when they start doing bad (as much of a chore that is). Being actively positive also helps, from my experience and others'. But in general, ignoring all the incoming bs is a must. I agree and I should be reciting this as a mantra starting from champ select.

When working on my Teemo Main account, when I was doing normals (late 20s, a few level 30 games) I was getting matched with golds+plats.

this is an account that was never ranked previous seasons and wasn't ranked at the time either. idk how I was getting both matched and grouped with these groups

I thought the logic behind situations like yours would be that they have an unranked playing with a gold/plat friend. Except no, they don't try to balance the no of unranked players on each team. Their logic is to replace them with Silver, according to another poster here... Thanks, Riot.

Normal mmr and ranked mmr are separate.

ex: I don't really play ranked (only play it when a friend invites me), so my normals mmr is 400 higher than my ranked

also unranked usually = silver

This goes against what trophies said. I saw a site that showed separate mmrs, but then I asked someone in plat and they said no, it's the same.

Your normal MMR does have an impact, but for the majority of players it will have none. My smurfs have much much harder games in placements (and get placed higher because of it) than when I spectate lower players in theirs.

Also, whenever my smurfs hit level 28, I only play with level 30s because the pool is too small at that MMR for level 28s, and when I hit 30 it goes from being against platinum smurfs with no runes playing normals with their friends, to full diamond teams both sides with full runes and almost everyone is ranked besides me. It has a soft cap for pre-30 mmr, then it extrapolates it when you hit 30. If you are hitting 1900-2200 elo normals, when you play ranked it won't put you against as low people, it uses it to make a little more educated guess on your appropriate starting ranked mmr. In my case its usually silver 2 to gold 5 players at first game.

This was from season 5 though so some big changes have most likely happened as a result of the flaming feces calamity that is dynamic queue

You have a ranked mmr the second you finish your first ranked game. It starts out at 1200 elo, then goes down based on placements until 10 where its pretty sure where you stand. During this time period, your mmr is also taking account your last 30 games and mmr around that period, so the more you win, the faster you climb. It applies a "sureness" multiplier to your mmr as your climbing and falling gets more predictable.

So, in that case, the unranked players you were playing with were likely pretty early on in their placements so they were above your rating (1000-1100) while you are about 800.

Tiers and divisions are very broad, you'll go up and down in divisions pretty easily and if you get lucky, tiers are pretty easy too (not that its about luck, just possible to go up with a good win streak on the fence) so don't get hung up on what rank everyone is, it doesn't matter at all.

I've played with diamond 3 people in match making that didn't do as well as the plat 1 people, it just happens. Its not a huge deal. Focus on the game, and your play, and you'll find a lot more reliable matchmaking exists after a few games of doing that, than if you get tilted before it starts and focus so much on what rank everyone is.

I wasn't, like I said, I just got placed with a lot of unranked and when I go wtf 5 times in the first 5 minutes, then it's all explained on lolnexus. Seeing the real mmr doesn't tilt me, just sets my mind at ease about what's going on in the game, as it now makes sense and if we also have 1 of the ranked afk then I can actually surrender (I never surrender). But what bugs me is why this happened in the first place. If they're using same mmr they really shouldn't because people simply play differently in Normals and experiment and are not try hards. This also leads to this huge discrepancy of mmr, someone with 0 experience in ranked simply cannot be treated as a Silver. It's not about skill, it's about experience, they didn't have the chance to learn from good plays nor mistakes, therefore they just don't do certain basic things at all.

That is why unranked players get paired with more unranked players than ranked players. They can't only pair unranked players with ranked ones because then no one would know wtf mmr anyone was.

They put your DEFAULT mmr where the EXACT average is, which is in this case, ALWAYS going to be 1200 (or lower) until proven otherwise, it is the exact point in which the system Riot has in place will move an equal amount of people up or down.

Also, it is 100% about skill. Someone naturally really fucking good can demolish you with 100 games total, people can look up builds, and counters don't have significant meaning until the highest level of play. It's why the majority of bronze players (from data I recall Riot putting up, can't find it anymore) have been in bronze for a significant period of time in relation to players in gold and platinum. Rising in skill is about learning. Experience allows comfort, and still has less of an impact than SKILL in decision making, as evidenced to the fact that bronze players who have played since season 2 are still making terrible decisions.

AdeBug1 votes

I don't get your first paragraph. What I was saying is you cannot ignore experience completely, and decide it is not a factor in matchmaking. Someone naturally good will climb a lot faster, agreeably, but still not shoot up instantaneously without having a few games under their belt. For instance decisions on whether to take baron or an inhib, these will still split teams up at lower levels because of the different experiences they had, depending on how many enemies are alive and the towers destroyed, or how strong your team is. And one bad decision/fight like that can lose the game.
