Yorick is strange in the new game

I've been playing Yorick a lot recently - really enjoying him, too. He's fun, has a unique mechanic, and feels comfortable to play as. He has enough self-buffs that, unlike Mordekaiser, doesn't leave him lacking when it comes to defending himself (I.E., slows and a speed-up to protect him from ganks, self-healing to keep him in the fight, etc.).

The thing is, though, is that he's really out of place...

Yorick works wonders dueling people. Being able to call upon three other "minions" to help him puts him in a good spot to damage people. And the damage-reduction he gets from each of them? Amazing. But come teamfights, he encounters the same dilemma Urgot and old Sion suffer(ed) from - great at 1v1, not so great killing more than one. His ghouls fall far too fast in the late game, leaving him either rather squishy and quick to fall or almost negligible in terms of damage dealing - sometimes both, sometimes neither. Depending on when Yorick jumps in the fray, he can either be the terror of the rift or a polio-stricken cancer patient, with little middling results. If his teammates aren't already there to cloud up the presence of his ghouls or to capitalize on the enemy focusing them, they're gone faster than you can bat an eye and Yorick usually follows quickly thereafter.

And it's not just his inconsistent gameplay - Yorick actually doesn't promote a healthy atmosphere, believe it or not. He has no clear counter as far as I've experienced - which is good in a way, since Riot has been rather ambivalent over having champs that flat out counter other ones with no chance at counter-play. However, Yorick's lack of counters isn't just due to having an all-around balance to his kit that allows him to face any given opponent - it's that he does it all relatively well. He tanks well, does magic damage well, does physical damage well - there's little shot at outright mitigating Yorick. He's not just like Rumble where he's just a safe pick to go with in which the transition from lane to teamfight phase will generally work out - Yorick is a safe pick that you can always count on to do well so long as the person knows what they're doing. Yorick basically has to be camped 24/7 to lose his lane, or his turret would have to be besieged consistently by two AD heavy champs.

I love Yorick - I love his gameplay, I love his theme, and I'll be honest, I love being the camping grounds of enemy junglers simply because the enemy top laner won't stop complaining about how little farm they're getting with me standing literally between them and my own minions (it gets to the point that I deliberately will eat up damage and waste insane amounts of mana to stop them from farming just because I can). But I'm not so enthralled by the ability to bully out all laners that I won't ask for a rework. I'd like to see Yorick brought into the modern game - a champ promoting the healthy gameplay Riot keeps going on about. Somebody that isn't like the old Sion where people would basically just go "Well, I guess he wins lane." Some challenge in lane - some counterplay to go up against - would make Yorick all the more thrilling.

I know everyone at Riot must have a lot on their plates with all the champs to bring up to speed either visually or mechanically, but please remember Yorick Mori.

Can't wait to get the guy... But I promised a friend I would get Rengar, then Zac, then Aatrox, then Skarner, then I would get Urgot, but after that, I'll get Yorick because he's been on my list of champions that look fun.

Ever played a Yorick vs Yasuo top? The Samurai passive shield blocks the Ghoul damage, and then he just dives through every minion to completely negate post-ghoul-summon damage, and he outtrades you through 100% of the game.

But yes, Yorick is not in a good place.
