@RIOT or anyone who knows: How does the adaptive bonus work for hybrid champions?

I like playing AP/On-hit Jax, but I'm a tad confused how the adaptive bonus works: would the adaptive bonuses of runes give me AD instead of AP? I know it's a bit late to be asking about that, but I'd like to know.

I imagine that people who go glass Kayle or my crazy friend who goes hybrid Kennen have similar questions. Probably a bunch of other cases I'm not thinking of, as well.

So it gives AD or AP at start of the match based on your Champion

for an example Morde gives adaptive AP at start of the Match however if I Buy a longsword as my starting item "to rush Gunblade"

All that AP turns into AD until such a time that I have more AP from "Items" than I have AD from Items. For example finishing Gunblade
