Yes and no.
The games where you win are amazing, or even ones that you lose but the match was a good and fair fight. I enjoy playing a Support more than anything in a good game, with Jungler being a close second.
But the games that you lose are probably the worst than any other lane - in those lanes you win or lose on your own merit.
A support Champ (and I mean a true Support, not some midlaner playing support) is almost entirely at the mercy of how the other players perform.
And this is Exactly why i play support lux. Ill let you carry and get kills if you can but if my adc cant handle it i need to be able to take control of the game and turn it around. Idk how janna mains exist when so many bad marksmen are out there ready to suicide into the enemy team and then ask "Why didn't you shield me?".

better play velkoz, zyra, morgana, brand, even sona (with lichbane and ludens like they build nowadays)
lux is just a bad carry support
as for janna she wins more games than all these carry supports for a reason, becase her kit is great for turning teamfights to your advantage
Support main.
Generic disclaimer: The NA LoL forums do not make up or necessarily represent the LoL player-base as a whole.
the ever-so forgotten rule on the boards: we don't represent the entirety of league of legends, just the outspoken few
Yeah, I mentioned that on the original post, which had a somewhat biased title, and which I routed to this page for better feedback purposes.
Some days, you just can't win?
I really enjoy the support role just wish they'd fix the xp gap really my only complaint
Yeah it feels bad to be like 3/1/18 on blitzcrank and still be at the level of the 1/8/3 Vayne I've been fisting to death all game while my adc is 2 levels above either of us.
I'm a support main, and no, I don't.
I've done it for four years. Not only have people still yet to buy a fucking clue as to what supports do for them aside from being a ward mule, what their items do, WHY they want to build AP, and I find myself more often than not trying to talk not one, but FOUR people down from the ledge of defeatism and potentially suicide.
EVERY GODDAMN GAME.
People also ignore your warnings about what the enemy is doing and where they are on the map, then scream at you for not warning them. Which you did. Endlessly. And you end up trying to cover every shortcoming and weakness in your entire team because everyone wanted to go all melee single target ADC/assassin. Which ends up being everything.
It makes me want to break their spines over my knee.
Dude. I'm a support main, and that NEVER HAPPENS. Are you in bronze 5 or something?
This happens frequently thanks to the matchmaking system. When you win 10 games in a row the game starts finding bad players for your team. Losing a game is one thing, but your MMR also drops significantly. Then from that point you get bad players, and games are total random. Welcome in the support ELO hell.
I main support out of necessity. As support you have alot of power over the game as a whole. The problem is that when your playing support people have some set expectations of what your job is which is usually wrong.
As a support my job is:
Protect the ADC when possible- this means do what i can for the adc but don't suicide with him.
Ward key objectives - this doesnt mean having the whole map glowing, but just the parts that you need to not lose the game to a sneak baron.
Assist other lanes when applicable- roaming has won me more games than lost. but people still dont understand that i am not the adc's bitch.
Secure kills when necessary - as in kill the enemy killing us before they succeed
Sacrifice myself when necessary for the betterment of the team.
What my job is not: To follow the adc like a dog. To let the adc die so he can secure the kill. To feed To ward everything every time To keep the adc from killing himself
What i get blamed for by every "bad" adc: Them sucking.
You should support the SHIFT key when starting a sentence, it will make your post look better.
FtFy.
A very noble response, I have many hats, and I tip them all to you.
I like that "I'm a support main and no" got more votes than "I'm not a support main and no" xD
Although in seriousness that may be an issue of audience selection. You're not getting a random sample of the playerbase, you're only getting those who care enough about whether or not they like playing support to click on this thread. So take any results you find with a huge, biased grain of salt.
I have a generic answer and a personal answer.
Generic - Playing support is painstaking because you can land all the ultis and heals you want and you can't save your adc from themselves so it feels like an uphill struggle cuz you never know when they're gonna dive at 20 hp with you having no mana or cooldowns.
Personal - I like the ward war, I like the clutch saving, I like being either tanky or annoying af with shields and perfectly timed cc. I like the fact that support is low maintenance and doesn't need farm to function, but I hate how even when you're like 2/4/13, NOBODY will still let you be the shot caller. It's always a carry with the most kills. You could be the one facilitator of those kills, the enabler, but your team will not give you the leadership credit where it's due most. I'm in BRONZE IV and I know how to close out a game, but when I support, nobody listens to me no matter how good I'm doing cuz my stats mean nothing - cuz I'm not the one dealing the damage or getting the pentas. Playing support is mentally harrowing!!
agreed. i find that if you want to get out of bronze as supp braum is a good choice, because all you have to do is stick to the most fed carry and peel like an irish potato farmer.
"peel like an irish portato farmer"
lmao take your upvote so other people can see this little gem
"tips hat"
I like how these 14 people voted for "Remember to upvote and comment"

[Bond of Stone]
Someone say, "Braum carry"?
YES ^.^ Or just braum jungle >:D Tbh alot of vayne builds work on braum tbh :p Well YES! BRAUM CARYYYYYY
That's just a fun build because of the ridiculous amount of damage reduction her gets. 40% wall. 12% PD 15% delayed with DD. 3% BoS. About 50% of damage just vanishes into the void before ever factoring resists. Which he gets a lot of innately. Then he shreds resist in turn and has innate magic damage on-hit (passive).
Admittedly, it's not the most practical or effective. But fun is it's own reason. . . Generally.
While I do main Support, and I do highly enjoy the role, I've found that I normally have very little impact on the game if I can manage to not die very often. I am often completely at the mercy of the skill differences between everyone else. Even with some of the more nasty supports like
, I still rarely feel like I contribute to wins. I always feel like I contribute to losses. This specific Paradox is very mentally taxing.
Thanks for the feedback!
On a personal aside, have you ever tried Blitzcrank top?
I don't lane very often. But I have seen a Blitzcrank top that did a lot of work (against my team) once or twice. They are also very annoying to lane Support against.
But if I were forced to go Top Lane right now, I'd have to pick
because he's quietly become sort of OP.
Really? He didn't receive any buffs, did he? So the meta just shifted to Rammus?
I mean, that's awesome, but I don't want to see the awesome little guy get nerfed any time soon.
Rammus has ALWAYS been sleeper OP, because the stats that he wants to build work SO WELL with him. He can fight inside of minion waves without losing the trade, because of his Defensive Ball Curl, and once he gets Bami's, he can just E+W the enemy, and AA him with passive buff, and take out an entire wave that's aggroed on him, while taking 1/4-1/2 of the enemy's health, and often burning an escape.
Writing notes furiously
But in all seriousness, I think I'll have to try him in bottom lane next time I play.
He's very strong in top lane. He can out-trade Malphite start to finish, and most top laners can't really hurt him to start with. Rammus is a sleeper for sure.
I am a support main and i love it.
But i hate the Vayne ADC mains(Not all of them but the majority of them), thanks to them i had the most horrible experiences.
I enjoy it as long as my adc appreciates what I do and how I do it. It can be a fun role but if shit so much as touches the fan your team will come down on you and your jungler.
"You're not warding right" "you're not warding enough" "Why didn't you get sightstone first item?" "You miss every skillshot" When I literally land at least 70% of them. "You should have played X support instead of X" "My support is shit"
That vitriol is what will make me sell my sightstone and start building ap.
i find that on most supps the sightstone gold generation item is the most slot efficient.
okay, if you answered "I'm a support main and no" there is probably something wrong with you, doing something that you don't enjoy of your own free will.
I disagree with this completely.
Support is a needed, yet fairly thankless role. You don't get flashy stats, you don't get credit for literally anything. The most I have ever gotten as a thank-you was when I was tahm and I ate a low health mid laner right before the ashe arrow hit them. The role is thankless and your team expects you to be amazing and carry your potato of an adc. If the adc starts to feed it becomes your fault and when you jump in to save their life, the uninformed top laner complains that "support is feeding again" in all chat.
The new (and old) items are dumb and useless and the XP and gold difference need to be at least adjusted.
So why do I play support. Because I enjoy the champions and the little things like setting up kills and saving my adc. The support role has many issues that make it unfun and that needs to be fixed.
You digg?
Absolute bullshit.
Supports don't get "thanked" because most of them play a completely average game.
Oh so you placed 30 wards in a 40 minute game... as you were supposed to. Oh you shielded the adc from damage... as you were supposed to. Oh you Janna Q the initiation... as you were supposed to. Oh you got the hook on the enemy carry... as you were supposed to.
You don't get "thanked" or "praised" because you didn't do anything praiseworthy. You did things. You pressed buttons. You weren't a disadvantage to your team. You want to be praised for that? Fuck man, no one praises for that. No one says, "Wow tryn, good job on taking that tower." It's what he's meant to do. The number of good supports that don't get praised is really low. In almost every game I've played, an actually good support gets praised for what they do. The Thresh that hooks an ulting Rengar out of the air, "Godlike hook." The Lulu that flashes back into the teamfight even though she has 10% hp, just so that she can ult the Renekton in the middle of their team, "ty based lulu <3."
When players see another player going above and beyond what they expect, they give compliments, because they know that this person is winning them the game. The fact that you aren't getting that praise, isn't because the players are too stupid, it's that you aren't good enough.

I couldn't agree more with this and would like to add also that I strongly dislike the amount of supports that think the role is not important and of low impact. As someone who plays ADC I'll be the first one to admit that how my lane goes is usually almost always decided by the support. This in turn decides on how quickly I can scale up in the game and usually whether the game is winnable or not.
I occasionally play support, but it is neither my primary, nor my secondary role. I enjoy it because it is a break from the monotony of Jungling and the pressure of midlaning. When I play support, I may not have the damage nor the gold, but it is still fun. I still have all the playmaking ability of a jungler, with the roaming potential of a midlaner, without the hassle of farming.
Support is the one role I feel I can carry with even without getting any kills.

for life.
I don't like the way is been played in the League. I've been playing Supports in other games and felt way better than the league like Priests who buffs and heals allies, Warlocks who curses enemies
As far as i know Riot said the support role is not created by themselfs but by the community itself but if I think about it there was Support in champion description so i don't really truly know actually. Its based on "You are last pick so you are Support" stupid dumass logic so therefor its has no roots on how it should be played correctly which means "No one else wants to play it so you have to play it"
And if we look the way the item build the support has to buy - Sightstone on lets say Nami. Its far better a Tank to have Sightstone but since Nami is the support then Nami buys it. Then goes to ward the bush and dies to enemy that is camping that bush
If i decide i wanna play Nami as Assassins would i have enough scaling to do that? Probably not right?
So there is mastery that if enemy minion dies you got 1 gold... Seriously? 1 gold? 1? I should be getting 40% of minions value for been near it so i get supported by gold correctly.
I am not suppose to buy items cause they give gold. Giving gold to get gold is mindless logic You get items because of their stats and actives not because they give gold
Sometimes you get a compliment from your ADC / team mates for doing a good job. Even if what you did was just par for the course with supports. Those games really are lovely.
Sometimes you get blamed for all of life's problems by your ADC / team mates, perhaps for a simple mistake or just for being a support. I'd rather choke on my own fist than play those games.
Also depends on what you play, I find Sion / Leona support a lot more fun than heal bot Soraka.
Sadly, there are many problems with a poll like this, such as bias and a limited sample of the population, so I don't know if Riot would want to use this as official data.
However, I think it's always cool to see what people on the boards think, so I hope more people see it! In my case, I am a support main, and I like playing ranged supports. The only tank I truly like to play is Taric, and maybe if I get better with Thresh I would pick him too.
I'm a support main, and No.
Right now, Support itemization is so clunky and mis-managed that with limited GP5, there's no real way to get a proper balance. Midlaners with the slightest amount of CC can 'support' and do so while building full ap, and never touching Sightstone.
Tanky supports just got Knight's Vow and Redemption, and both items are fantastic, but it forces the support meta in a dangerous direction, especially with what a convoluted MESS Soraka's kit is. She's punished for building more health, but it makes a super-high health build more viable, thanks to the changes to Warmog's.
Overall, I'm not happy, no, especially with how Support GP got eradicated, and some of my other favorite Niche picks.
Also, Blitzcrank.
Blitz is singlehandedly the most game-skewing champion in the game, because he can miss fifty hooks before 10 minutes in, but if he lands one lucky shot, then it's game over for your bottom lane, and then for the rest of the team. Blitz doesn't seek picks, he MAKES picks.
I usually play support, however I have massive trouble playing it when I'm not with people I'm on a Skype call with. Being a support is a lot of fucking work and having to have your ADC then explain how you need to support them when they haven't played it is plain frustrating.
I don't agree with ADC's a majority of the time because a lot of the time they just don't have synergy with the support champ thus making their laning phase well... difficult. What they do not seem to understand is that a support supports the **ENTIRE **team late game, and they only stick with and ADC because a) ADCs need a support to keep up their sustain and reduce their squishyness and b) Supports don't farm so they need to stick with someone who is constantly farming for items.
Having ADCs flame you for no reason is so common that it makes me want to tear my hair out. They draw out any mistakes you make and then exploit them. This results in a bad game. I mean you can just mute them, but the fact that they're reporting you and flaming you is a little ridiculous...
I may be a little biased, but hey, I just want a chill game where I can play league and not be reported for the most minor things.
Video games are fun to play. Let's keep it that way XD
I consider myself an ADC main, but I like doing Mid and Support as secondary. Support is fun not by killing everyone, but by setting everything up for your teammates to kill. Clutch saves are extremely gratifying as well even if they might go unnoticed by your team. However the gold discrepancy can be frustrating at times because you're doing decent but can't opt for more expensive items without setting yourself back for most of the game.
Why isn't there a "Sometimes i enjoy it and sometimes i don't" or "I want to play it every once in awhile" option?
I used to play Support a lot because I enjoyed it, I used to play Support a lot because I had to due to Queue time and I didn't enjoy it, I don't play Support often because I don't want to, I don't play Support often but I don't mind doing it every once in awhile. Sometimes I enjoy it and sometimes I don't, sometimes I want to play it and sometimes I don't. Its not as black or white as you make it out to be, I imagine I am not the only one who feels this way.
its not really a yes or no question for me because it depends on how I am feeling. If I want to Support I will pick it or ask to trade for it, but I don't always want to play Support even when I get it. I do "main" Support sometimes, I think it was like 70-80% of my games in Season 6 and Morgana and Janna became my highest mastery champions. Mostly because I enjoyed Supporting for whatever reason. Before that, in Season 5, I was a Top main where that dominated most of my games, but I did Support often and I didn't like it.
This post isn't really going to get a lot of useful information to be honest, i think the only people you are going to draw to this post are Support Mains and people who vehemently hate Supporting or Supports. I think the average player who just randomly gets Support is probably going to pass this up unless they genuinely care about making their opinion known. So its going to be biased information from the get go not to mention this is only one server.
Used to main support back in S4.
Then I played the other roles.
They are fun. Support is not.
i like to play support it just gets boring that im always picked for it since it seems no one else wants it....
