Could we talk about Viktor?
So it's been a while now since the buffs came out for everyone's favorite Doctor Doom clone Zaun scientist.
However, seeing as how our boy has still been lingering around a 46%-48% win rate, there are some changes that could be used to make him more smoother to play.
I want to note that while win rates don't signify a champion's strength and Viktor IS a hard champion to learn and master, I feel like that even the people who main him (me included) could see some overbearing weaknesses with him To begin, let's highlight some of them:
Weak Early game: So Viktor's level 2 is notoriously strong for trading with other midlaners. However, that powerspike falls considerably when considering that the waveclear Viktor provides is quite weak, pre-Hexcore MK-1, when compared to other champs (see
,
,
,
) His level 6 just isn't as nearly as strong as some others.
Scaling: As it stands now, Viktor is a late game monster. The only problem is getting to that stage of the game. He takes too long to ramp up his damage when compared to others. His powerspikes dont come until he gets
,
,
. At that point, the games are usually decided and/or won by either team.
Choegraphed Kit: By far, one of the biggest downsides to Viktor is how choreographed his kit is. Everything that he does has some indication to it.
His Q range is longer than the auto range, making it so that Viktor would have to walk up to his opponent in order to do damage, giving them ample warning to move away from him.
His W requires that the opponent be in it for 1.5 seconds before being hit with a stun. Unless the opponent is already stunned or cc'ed, you'd be hard pressed to stun someone using only the W. The slow isn't very useful for keeping them in it and the increased mobility in champions isn't really helping.
The E upgrade is one of the abilities that is almost impossible to land due to the delay on it. Having a full second to move out of a thin line isn't hard at all, unless it's cast in a teamfight or having cc'ed the opponent prior.
For an ultimate that's named "Chaos Storm", it sure doesn't feel like it. In fact, staring menacingly at your opponent and hoping they don't move for 2 seconds to get a tick of damage off is more of a "lemme shock you" ability. The speed reduction nerfs that had happened a while ago didn't help either as anyone who has mobility or movespeed can usually walk out of it if Viktor is out of range.
So what can be done? Changes are possible with Viktor without changing his numbers (maybe a few)
These include: Changing the ult tick to be more quicker (changing the numbers as need be) Changing the E delay to be quicker but give reduced damage, similar to Increase the slow on Gravity Field and give it a grounding effect Revert the Hexcore cost to 1000g per upgrade
In my honest opinion, the only changes that Viktor would need to bring him back up would be changing his W and increasing the tick rate on his ultimate. The grounding effect would help fight off those who can easily gapclose to him, increasing his survivability without making him tankier (also how are champions gonna defy mf'ing gravity) . The Ult ticks would provide for more consistent damage, similar to the pre-rework Viktor, making it so that he doesn't have to wait for the burst.
Tl;dr Viktor could use some love by giving his W a grounded effect and increasing the tick rate on his ultimate while adjusting his numbers to compensate.
