Well Vladimir is what I would classify as your typical drain tank, like Swain (post 6), Aatrox (RIP). Vladimir brings pretty much no CC (unless rylais but that is very limited).

Imo Vladimir is a situational pick. He works extremely well with champions like Amumu who can hold down the enemy team.

Vladamir's ult increases damage from all sources IIRC. You basically want to land his ult on as many people as possible in team fights. If you're on a team that has no CC at all I would advise strongly against playing Vladimir in that comp.

My question is what stage of the game is he best? I just played a quick custom match as him and I kinda feel like he falls off late since his AP scalings are so low.

He doesn't fall of late, if anything he is much stronger the longer the game goes. The thing to consider about his AP scalings is his passive adds quite a bit of free AP. Also, both his main damage spells have a 5 second CD at rank 5.

Ok, kewl.

I just found an updated guide, so that helped out a lot.

Thanks for the response tho.

At the moment Vlad is a bit weak. The cross over for winning more than 50% of your Vlad games is about 50 games played. So you need 50 games before you are winning 50% of the time. One thing you have to remember is how weak your real early game is. You don't want to all-in early at all, just trade if it safe to do so, but mostly worry about your CS.

Vlad has a higher win % the longer the game goes on so you want to slow things down as much as possible. Don't take an early tower unless it is the very 1st(b/c of the bonus). You want the enemy top laner to stay top and let the rest of the team play 4v4. The problem is the games at the moment seem to be much quicker. There are just a ton of games you can't win as Vlad because your bot lane or mid lane loses and the enemy comes to your lane. He doesn't have CC so it isn't like you can turn around a game with a team fight mid game. You have to delay and try to farm hard. It is just really hard to do the way the game is at the moment.

In regards to your actual question about him being hard to play the answer is:

Mechanically: No Decision making in regards to trading in lane: Yes Team fighting mechanics: No Build path decisions: No

So really the only hard part about Vlad is not messing up laning phase, mainly focusing on early laning phase since later laning phase you have lots of sustain which makes it get easier. Mechanically it is hard to mess him up, the Q is a point and click and the E is a pretty big AOE as well as the ult. The W is just an escape or maybe something you can use to tower dive since you can lose tower aggro by pressing it and moving away.

If you get good at poking with him using mostly the Q and farming with a mix of the Q and E and saving the W for escapes you should be able to overcome the 'hard' part about Vlad and see that he is pretty simple.

Yes, you aren't playing him to his full potential yet. Consider creating an excel file and keeping track of what match ups are easy and hard as well as why and you'll be able to go into a match knowing whether you should go for the stomp or play passive.

Significantly harder to play than his old kit.

Old kit was use Q and E as quickly as possible in fights, land R on as many as possible, pool when focused or to dodge stuff (or make ADC's rage).

New kit is

Q as often as possible, E as often as possible, but make sure you don't miss the E charge and watch your passive if you should wait a moment for Q for more healing, land R on as many as possible and be ready for the huge heal from it's proc. W is still the same.

Add me well play a game. It's hard to provide advice without seeing you personally play with Vlad. He is a fun champ but I haven't played him post rework.

He is really strong as long g as you maintain your distance vs melee bruisers
