Will we get any supports designed to function well with mages?

Like Braum with his passive working well with high attack speed allies (aka all the Marksmen except Jhin)? I'm not sure how it would work given that different mages' spells vary more than different marksmen's autoattacks. Maybe giving AP like Janna's shield giving AD? Affecting their next spell cast like Lulu's shield or Nami's E modifying their AA?

With mages starting to come bot lane, it'd be interesting to see supports that are designed to work best with mages. Maybe they'll mostly do physical damage?

One spell idea I can think of is increasing projectile speed for a few seconds. It seem like an interesting gameplay mechanic, but one that could be near broken in certain combinations, like Lux binding, Nidalee spear, Brand ultimate, or Nautilus ultimate.

Old Soraka was great. Her E used to give mana/silence enemies. And now its the aoe slience/root. I surely do miss heal/mana bot/aoe q soraka. I could take that soraka mid and be crazy strong. Just q, q, q, q, q, heal, q, q,q....

Yeah they should make a support that marks the enemies, and when the APC hits them, it does magic damage that is based on how much magic penetration the APC has. They could call it Sunlight.

Leona+mage lane could be an interesting combination, now that you mention it. A mage with early powerspike can dominate lane coupled with Leona.

tanks are all mages need. Don't need mages doing any worse than they already can lol

I mean, you could say the same about marksmen.

Imagine if pre-rework soraka were played with ziggs botas he is now? People would be crying so much

They're not going to make a support designed to function by supporting a mage because until mages bot become the norm, there will be too few situations in which they're useful. Right now that champion would basically only be played with Ziggs and typically wouldn't see play at all. Enchanters are only OK as a class because the ADC in bot lane meta is so hugely consistent, but if ADCs being dominant in bot lane ever comes to an end then those champions become exceedingly situational, beyond any other class. Put someone who can only support mages and who is non-functional solo into the game and they're just never picked.

its going to be a bad thing to do, because that character will otherwise suck.

You can make it OP with a mage otherwise it's gonna be abnoxious. and since you're going to put some of the character's power into synergy, that power will be unavailable if the lane partner is going to be a non-mage.

end result: with mage, it is going to be ok. Just ok, not amazing, not strong, not anything. without mage, it's going to be meh at best.

I used Braum as an example of a support going well with a marksman specifically. Braum would be weaker with a low attack speed ally (such as a mage), but the rest of his kit is still very cohesive. He's very strong with champions like Lucian (because of the passive Lightslinger), but not really weak with other Marksmen.

If they implement something like increasing projectile speed, it would primarily help mages, but many marksmen could also benefit from the same ability to a lesser extent. Setting the power budget properly can allow both powerful synergy and still being decent without the synergy.

I do not think braum has synergy specifically with a marksman. I think his biggest synergy is with melee divers. These guys can deliver braum to a good ult, as well as make use of his passive as their kits generally contain multiple AA resets.

Also his ability to limit retaliation onto a select few targets (specifically not your damage dealers) mean his synergy is quite broad.

ofcourse you have the whole lucian issue. But that's a special case it's not like braum sucks with Ashe or anything.

Well then that just goes to further prove my point. A support that work well with divers can be still strong with a marksman, even if it's not optimal. A support that work well with mages don't have to be weak with others.
