Tutorial should now replace Ryze with a simpler mage.

After Ryze rework, the tutorial still uses Ryze as an example of a mage. This is not good for a number of reasons.

Ryze doesn't use a generic mage build. Ryze scales from maximum mana (although less than before rework, he still benefits a lot from mana), and this means that playing Ryze will be different from playing a more generic mage.

Ryze passive is difficult to understand for beginners. > Ryze's spells grants a stack of Arcane Mastery for 12 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. At 5 stacks, Ryze becomes supercharged for 3 + (1 per Desperate Power's rank) seconds, gaining a shield that blocks「 20 + (5 × Ryze's level) 」(+ 8% of his max. mana) damage While Arcane Mastery's shield holds, Ryze's spellcasts reduce his other spells' cooldowns by「 Overload's cooldown 」, able to be brought to a minimum of 0.25 seconds.

Compared to Ashe (although the reworked passive may be a bit confusing) and Garen, the other two options. This is problematic because the game pauses at one time to tell you to look at the passive.

I suggest switching out Ryze with simpler mages like Annie (only difficult mechanic is controlling tibbers), Karthus (easy to understand passive, and lack of skillshots that can be blocked), Katarina (simple mechanics), or Lux (simple mechanics and passive). I'm saying that these champions are easy to learn, not necessarily easy to master. I hope I didn't insult anyone who mains these champions.

I feel like this would be more beginner friendly. The tutorial itself feels a little intrusive (every time I tried to towerdive someone, the tutorial stopped me), and it needs to be changed overall. But until then, small changes to make it more beginner-friendly, please?

it should be Annie instead of Ryze. Shes much more new player friendly.

I vote Lux

Lol I remember I did the tutorial with Ryze. After that I thought mana was a damage stat and I stacked it on Lee Sin in my first beginner bot game...

must be Annie. Lux costs 3150 IP while Annie 450 and this mean a lot for a beginner. less IP needed = easier access to a beginner

Oh god.

If I was a new player and that wall of text that is his passive was the first thing I read, I would probably just quit.

I think Annie Lux would make much better tutorial mages.

Yeah it should have always been someone like Annie , she's far simpler. Ryze has always had a much higher skill level.

Annie is the easiest I can think of. Everything is click to auto hit or point and click instant. She also encourages good last hitting.

Honestly, Veigar is pretty simple...

I highly agree that Ryze is no longer the simple mage that I used to love. He is completely different now, and is quite a bit more difficult. I highly agree that newbies should be exposed to Annie before Ryze. It just makes more sense.

After numerous threads discussing various issues new players face in this game and how Riot could improve the new player experience, nothing has been done. It should be obvious by now that Riot doesn't think there are enough new players for them to care.

How bout Swain ? Two point and click abilities, one ground targeted one and one toggle.

I thought the tutorial used lissandra now

I tried Ryze when I first played and I failed horribly. I think it's because I was so conservative in other games and I didn't use my spells often so I ewouldn't waste mana. Karthus and Lux are a bad because their damage can miss. Katarina is bad because the game classifies her as an assassin, and she has a teleport, which may be distracting. Worse of all, they are all 3150 champions. So that leaves Annie and Ryze, and they're both acceptable honestly.

They also use the current value instead of the equation in the game, so it's not distracting.

Ryze's spells grants a stack of Arcane Mastery for 12 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. At 5 stacks, Ryze becomes supercharged for 4 seconds, gaining a shield that blocks 30 damage While Arcane Mastery's shield holds, Ryze's spellcasts reduce his other spells' cooldowns by 4, able to be brought to a minimum of 0.25 seconds.

That's a lot more understandable then the thing you put.

Anivia would be a good choice, start them out on a weak champion lol.
