I would bet my house they know full well. They are biding their time, or they are trying to find a way to break it to us and hope we don't all go ape shite.

They know what the straight answer is, and it was clear from the start they didn't want two queues (I mean they've said it about 10 different times). They just realize how much it is wanted and don't know how to break the bad news without pissing people off.

Magma chamber is a perfect example against your argument, not for it. They not only announced it, they SHOWED US it was functioning. It was used during the All star event that year quite a bit, yet they claimed it was buggy. Looked fine enough to be used at a major event for them in a showcase match, but was suddenly "too buddy to go live".

Just like they full on said...twice now (not maybes, full on yes this is happening) with TWO different timelines, then failed to deliver.If they would stop lying, it wouldn't be an issue quite frankly. If they didn't have a timeline or didn't want solo queue, then they should say that, instead of stirring up a hornet's nest when people HERE don't like dynamic queue before it even went live.

100% their fault, not ours for being annoyed with them for making dates and showing things then pulling them back.

If they didn't want to give us Magma Chamber, then why bother showing it on an event just to cancel it. If they didn't want solo queue, then why tell us on two separate occasions within the span of 2 months it was coming out in x time (2 weeks once, a month and a half the second). It isn't as if just one person was saying it, because about 4 different rioters on twitter were saying it, on reddit, on the boards, etc.

What I'm talking about is the Magma Chamber that was going to at one point by larger than 5v5, and have teleporters to transport you around the map. They kept talking about it while it was in production and then the map got scrapped. What you saw at that tournament was IN NO WAY what Magma Chamber had been talked about. In fact, that wasn't really why people were mad about Magma Chamber - they were mad that it wasn't what they wanted. But how did we hear about it?

Riot didn't make a single official announcement about it. It was leaked by their staff because they wanted to tell us what they were working on, and then the boards CRUCIFIED them for it. So why post that shit at all?

It is 100% your fault if you are ignorant enough to believe that everything that gets tried out for a game or "announced" on twitter or reddit is going into the game. There is no other explanation for the majority of this post. Link me to the OFFICIAL RIOT ANNOUNCEMENT with a HARD RELEASE DATE on Magma Chamber, then we'll talk about lying. until then your "announcements" are hearsay from EMPLOYEES, who may or may not have any power to actually make changes.

I've likely played this game longer than you have, friend, so I know more than you are likely aware of, so don't pretend to lexture me or assume what I'm talking about.

I have 35 wins in ranked, I que up solo, I then get matched against a duo with over 500 wins and one happens to be in my lane. I say scrap dynamic. Sorry to RIOT, but they're going to have to take a hit somewhere if they want people to continue trying to play and spend money. ------------E

I believe they spent more time on new champ select (not only codes but graphics also). That's not the same as DQ. People don't call to remove NChS or to create alternation to it. SoloQ might use part of NChS design, too.

Just like with teambuilder that they finally trashed once people finally fully accepted it. They are like my ex and just don't know what they actually want is the problem, and no matter how much you tell them what makes sense, they will get defensive and clam up and do what they want until they realize you were right in the first place.

I've stopped playing ranked because of dynamic queue and was holding out for solo queue to get released. Part of me hopes they don't release it so they can watch half of their player base quit playing ranked or quit playing the game in general. They don't care about people like myself who don't have friends to play with, or people who would just rather play alone. I've never been more disappointed in Riot in the 5 years I've been playing this game.

Half of the player base legit can't quit playing ranked because not even half the people that play this game play ranked. Ranked queue games are actually in the minority and have been for a while. I know it feels bad but that can easily explain why ranked isn't getting the time and man-hours it used to get.

People saying this have no idea what they are talking about.

This game is a big esport title (the top one easily still). Ranked is where players go when they are aspiring to that, and the esport side fuels a lot of interest in LoL, and brings them a lot more money than a few casuals buying skins.

If ranked were to be removed tomorrow, LoL would be gone by November because half the players would stop playing. Sure you'd have your casual guys, and bot only players, but they aren't the ones who spend money on the game. They aren't the ones who pay for tickets to events, and so on.

You are thinking ridiculously short sighted, and forgetting this is a free to play game. If this was a "normal" game, then yes, you'd be right, but if all of the ranked players leave, then you won't have a game to play by 2017 because Riot will have lost (easily) half of their income from the esport and the skins side alone guarenteed.

I have no intention of arguing regarding the future of LoL or whether or not ranked is worth half the game's income because that is well beyond the scope of my post, and frankly my experience. I also had no intention of discussing the merits of ranked relative to the game's health, only to assert that ranked queues aren't even the most played anymore.

I'm sorry a lot of you are upset with the current state of solo-q v dynamic-q and I really hope Riot finds a way to resolve this without further alienating a key demographic.

I will address a few things you said though, since I'm replying already. You mention that casual players and bot-only players are not the one spending money. I've never played this game except casually and for around a year of that time I was bot and aram only and my account is worth multiple thousands of dollars. Probably around 4kish raw value but I have all the beta content and fun icons from the years so who knows?

As for calling me short-sighted: why? I expressed no opinion, and made no comment on the topic at hand. I posted a fact, backed up by a reliable source that showed ranked games are somewhat less than what the person I replied to claimed (And not even that much less than he claimed, just marginally). There is nothing in my post to be any sort of sighted about, especially considering I really didn't have anything at all to say about it. You're coming off as extremely abrasive to someone who couldn't be less involved in whatever this thread is even about.

This whole season is basically the point we can look back at in a year from now and mark where Riot messed up LoL like so many other companies have in the past.

This is where Riot turned a game the hardcore "live for LoL" types loved into a game for the casual buddies who don't spend half the money the others do.

They are doing what so many companies did that caused their games to start flushing despite the same people saying "you are over exaggerating, the game is fine and this is better" by taking all the established things and making them more accessible for "new" players. Only difference is, they are doing it for people that are new to ranked, to make buddy casuals play more, and in turn are pushing out the ones that were already grinding ranked. Just like ALL those games, it looks good for about 4 months, then Riot will remember they are catering to casuals ONLY, and those people will move on to say, Overwatch or something (because they weren't the hardcore stick to LoL types in the first place) and the hardcore guys won't be sticking with it and it will be a domino effect.

They can only live off of the esport side for so long.

I feel ya. First it was the CoD series getting more and more casual (for me atleast). Then i played SW:Tor for a long time--->went the "casual invite all your friends to play" route with no real content for progress players or guilds anymore. Everything nerfed and casualized to satisfy stupid kids. And now it happens to LoL, fucking great, really.

Answer is "no", I can promise you that. It's been more than 2 and a half months since they said that it would be "Soon(TM)". They know it'll cripple Dynamic Queue because Dyn-Q isn't exactly favorable if you don't play with 4 other people.

The answer is "no". Its a market strategy of making it seem "unsure", since uncertainty here is a good thing. None of your "popular streamers" have studied psychology or marketing. So, again, the answer is NO. Riot will not tell you this answer as uncertainty is necessary for this market strategy.

I don't know why people are so incapable of understanding that Riot is not some sort of all-knowing omnipotent being that has the contents of all of their creators and developers brains on tap at any given moment. Riot probably hasn't decided whether it's worth bringing it back yet. Pretending like they should release their information early is as ignorant as assuming you know what that information is - as I said above, we all know what happens when Riot talks about things and then they aren't released as indicated or as soon as the playerbase wants it. We could get solo queue never, or we could get it at the end of the season, or they could roll out a new solo queue next year - we have no idea. Pretending that it's going to be one or the other because you like/dislike Riot is just ignorant and, honestly, a waste of everyone's time.

Not everything has to be a "market strategy" or have some weird ulterior motive. Sometimes it really is just that they haven't decided yet.

They don't care if you or I keep playing, because there are lots of people taking our place.

So instead they act like there's a bunch of programming mumbo jumbo they need to do to get the whatchamacallits in ranked to allow solo queue and in a couple months they'll come out and say "Yeah hey guys we're sorry we weren't able to get solo queue finished because we just didn't have enough people working on it but now that you're all used to dynamic queue and hopefully ready to spend some more money we're going to release this brand new Teemo skin! ENJOY!"

There's also a possibility they'll roll the dice and implement solo queue in a few months and hope the ranked population continues playing dynamic queue thanks to the feeling of having put in too much time into dynamic queue to switch to a new mode that late into the season. But I doubt it. Because I doubt it would stop 90%+ of solo queuers from going to the solo queue game mode. And Riot won't allow that many solo queuers to opt out of filling for their precious premades.

What I'm saying is that there's no market benefit to pretending they're going to put solo queue back in. the premades will keep playing, people that don't mind dynamic queue or have resigned themselves to it will keep playing, and 90% of the people posting on the boards threatening to quit will also keep playing. Even if they lose the solo queuers in ranked, it doesn't matter - ranked is a tiny, tiny subset of games played, and the importance of having solo queue for normal draft is decreased since nothing has changed for them at all.

all I'm saying is that it makes more sense that they haven't actually decided when, from a money standpoint, I don't see it significantly hurting them either way. There's no real reason not to just say no if they answer is no, because those people threatening to quit over it are going to continue to threaten to quit about the next change they don't like, no matter how long they stall this matter.

Again u underestimate ranked. Riot is living off of the pro scene. Look at the streams. Average LCS (EU) games have around 150k views+ a few hundred or thousands in the hall. Who do u think are the ones watching the stream, supporting the pro scene? The aram, normal casuals? Or the competitive type of player? With over dunno 20 million players or something only having 150-300k viewers is not much, isn't it? Without the pro scene riot can close their company.

look, i'm trying to make this for you as SIMPLE as possible. In marketing. Assume you own an ice cream shop. You were selling Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream until now ("solo/duoq" and "team ranked"). But now your studies show that people that combine their Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream with their friends are more likely to come and buy ice cream from you. So, you remove the Vanilla ice cream and the Chocolate ice cream. And now only sale the Oreo (chocolate+vanilla) ice cream. Now that you made this decision, you come to find out that there were a lot of people that liked "just vanilla" or "just chocolate" ice cream. And they are disturbing your peace. Even though they still buy ice cream from you for whatever reason, they are now making big deal that they can't have only chocolate in their ice cream. So, what do you do to keep your profits up?

Option a) apologize for your mistake, stop selling oreo ice cream and release the vanilla and chocolate ice cream separately again? Option b) apologize for your mistake, and tell your clients that you will never sell them separately again? Option c) just tell your clients that if they want only chocolate in their ice cream, they should go somewhere else (same as B but on a more patronizing tone) Option d) lie. Promise your clients that you made this change temporarily and due to their valuable feedback, you will release A SPECIAL CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM WITH SOLID CHOCOLATE IN IT ("pure soloq").

If you chose A). Your studies that shown that people who combine blablabla were useless and you therefore lost money. If those people are still working for you, you can't even justify paying them anymore as they don't provide anything. If you chose B). You will most likely lose a bunch of clients. If you chose C). You will most likely lose A LOT of clients. If you chose D). You will most likely to lose very few clients.

Now, why does D) provide the "best" results? Because, if you "lie" the people about it, and delay the "extra super triple ice cream" a large portion of your customers will get "used to it". Despite complaining about your Oreo ice cream, they will get used to it and keep buying that. And since your blablabla study shows that they are more likely to give you more $. You will also earn more. You will still lose the few people that actually cared about chocolate ice cream being chocolate ice cream.

Now that I'm done with this analogy. I hope you can get why its a marketing choice. If you do not believe me, if you are free to research this yourself. If you expose your target to "something" constantly, they will eventually consider that normal and become accustomed to it. Its basic psychology, which is applied in marketing as explained above.

Now, why it was beyond obvious riot will never release a the "soloq" for anyone with basic psychology knowledge? Its because they promised a "pure soloq" with no premades what so ever. While all their efforts which include all the extra IP events, the new dynamicq and even the new hextech are ways of forcing people to play as premade teams. Its like there's a human that is going heading towards east . And you tell him, dude, that's wrong, you should go towards west. And he says "I'm going west bro", even though he is clearly doing the opposite.

Again all of the above and the marketing shit, you can find in books. If you would actually be interested in the subject. For 2 years I was working in marketing and human relations department. The problem with your whole analogy is that it's ignoring the ACTUAL marketing. something like 5% of the playerbase plays ranked, so they literally don't care cause the higher level players (diamond/challenger) don't mind dynamic queue and it brought their queue times down drastically.

You're sitting here talking about psychology and all your studies but you're literally ignoring that less than 10% of the playerbase even plays or cares about ranked, and that's the only place solo queue matters. You can look at the "marketing" of it as an ice cream shop if you want, but it's FROM my understanding of the marketing strategy that my statement comes, not in spite of it. Riot doesn't HAVE to put solo queue back in, or make statements either way, because only 10% of this smaller 10% of the ranked playing population will even leave because of it, which is a drop in the bucket. There are very, very few people that play ranked compared to the number of people playing League, and like I said, solo queue is only important for ranked.

This game is marketed as "competitive". The "competitive" game mode of this game is called "ranked". I'm willing to accept that only 30-40% of the population plays ranked during a season. However, I'm not willing to accept 5-10% of the population plays ranked. Ofc, that 30-40% is only that small number as lv 1-29 accounts and bots are included in it.

Ok, lets go with your kind statement. Only 10% of the playerbase plays ranked. In normals, draft, aram, 3v3, events you could already queue with as many friends as possible until you filled the maximum slots available. So, the "social" aspect of the game of "play with your friends for fun" was already available in every game mode except ranked. So, IF only 10% of the population bothered to play ranked, why make changed for that? Assuming you are the ice cream dealer. And there are 100 kids who wants to buy your ice cream. 90 don't give a shit. A few of those remaining 10 are pouting. And those that don't pout are happy with the current situation. So, why would you make any accommodation for that minority?

It makes no sense in the slightest my dear. The biggest argument as to why "the boards don't know better about balance or soloq or whatever subject" is that "boards are in the minority of players and that is why we don't know better". See the double standard? See the bias? It doesn't work that way, sadly.

Finally. You are free to not believe a word of what I've said. Even tho its very easy to verify the marketing and psychology aspect by simply checking a few thingies.

So, just do yourself a favor and read a book or two ;) You don't have to believe me, or any other board user. Go to sources you can believe. Find someone you trust that has knowledge on the subject and is willing to explain things to you. Or read a book that was wrote by a person which has more knowledge than me on the subject.

Other than this, I can't tell you anything else. PS: you do not have the numbers for "amount of people playing league". The number on their FAQ page is the same as it was in season 1 or 2. If you chose to not believe me, you can search on youtube for videos advertising league from 4 years ago and some of them show the FAQ page, and guess what. The same number of players were playing league just as ...... right now.... that sure makes sense doesn't it?

Riot is lying regarding those numbers. Otherwise they would've changed in over 4 years. And the only reliable data you have on the player base is the amount of players that play ranked.

as to why Dynamic Queue was instated:

"One of the biggest issues with a true Solo Queue is playerbase segmentation. Players in NA don't know this, but many LoL servers around the world don't even have all queues; in fact, some servers only have Ranked Solo/Duo Queue for specific times of the day, or specific days of the week, and no Twisted Treeline, Normal Draft or Ranked Teams at all. My platform is that Riot has no reason to SAY "we haven't decided yet" if they actually haven't decided yet, because the "community blowback" for not putting it in would be small enough from a marketing standpoint for them to not be affected by it.

You're basically trying to convince me that I won't get solo queue when my platform is NOT that we will get solo queue, rather it's that Riot has no reason to pretend to bring it back when only a small portion of the community really wants it back or will quit if it isn't brought back. Does that make sense? I don't actually believe Riot is gonna give us solo queue. I really, really don't.

And if you're going to be condescending to people, doing it while making grammar and spelling mistakes is basically the worst time. If you actually want people to understand focus more on the discussion instead of just bashing your point into someone's head... especially when I feel like I've made it pretty clear that you're basically not even responding to my posts with your "points", just continuing to try and convince me Riot isn't gonna put in solo queue?

my point wasn't that "riot will not release soloq". My point was that "It is in Riot's best monetary interest to keep the situation as confusing as possible" and that "Saying explicitly that they will not release soloq will cause them repercussions, hence they don't do it. So they keep delaying."

It depends. As its possible for people to actually be that faithful and put their trust in someone or something. So, for those kind of people, they would have to study the field a bit in order to figure out when they are being exploited. Ofc, there's also idiots and smart people where ones will never be able to get it and the others are understanding stuff on the fly.

No, they are just causalizing more a game who already capped on that.

Yes, the goal is "premades buy more stuff".

But they are gonna lose money in the long run.

The problem is, dynamic will likely destroy ranked and the pro scene.

Uneven premades and mmr all over the place, soon everyone will understand how ranking is pointless in dynamic.

Dynamic work like normal... good luck building competitiviness on that.

Those guys couldn't even foresee that buffing Xin would be bad idea.. Do you really believe they are aware of what their decisions will do for the game?

Now we have hextech which already has flaws. Those flaws would have been easy to spot & fix.. Yet they weren't..

riot believes social play = player retention, more RP bought and less toxicity. And they are right. People with lots of friends who play spend more RP on skins to show off and they sometimes buy gifts for their friends. Also when you are loosing interest and all your friends are still playing you often get drawn back into this game. riot is obsessed with trying to increase social play or more objectively the average Que size (they want more people queing in as 4-5 people)

this is why things like -events where you get absurd amounts of IP for queing as 5 -groups were introduced -ability to search FB for lol friends/ lol suggesting friends to inv to games -mastery system is better as 5 -crafting is better as 5 -uLOL are the way they are

These things are great for riot as a business and LoL as a game as it makes it easier to be social and gives incentive to make friends. The increased player retention gives them more $$$ and some of that money is used to make the game better.

However they are trying to make us do ranked socially now with dynamic que, but that ruins the competitive spirit as your rank just means you have good friends now. Also being competitive with friends isn't fun. i don't want to play ranked with my friends as some of them are bad and i dont want them feeding to upset me. The only thing this is doing is forcing lol to be non-competitive except at the LCS level.

The thing is, I'm don't even care about solo Q and even I am pissed at Riot for their treatment of the issue with you guys. Along with other crap they've pulled recently (preseason changes, recent replacement of NA art with uglier Chinese art, etc.) but that's a topic for another thread.
