Akali -- make the shroud more interesting

Akali has many problems. I'll talk about the shroud.

The shroud provides value early in lane, allowing Akali to apply some pressure and to cs. However, after 1 or 2 backs, the enemy laner will have a pink ward, which hard counters the shroud. Likewise, in any teamfight, any good opposing team will plop down a pink ward into the shroud making it entirely useless.

This is bad. Any entire ability should not be negated so completely so easily. On the other hand, there must be some sort of counterplay midgame or lategeame versus akali's shroud. This seems like a serious problem.

Here's my suggestion.

When inside the shroud, enemies can see inside the shroud but not outside. When outside the shroud, enemies cannot see in, and pink wards cannot ever provide vision inside the shroud for people outside the shroud. Akali maintains her 'invisibility' by ducking into the shroud when her target is outside of it and by ducking in when someone is outside of it. Her abilities and attacks do not reveal her to enemies outside the shroud when she is inside the shroud. Akali can dash into the shroud when outside the shroud by expending one of her ultimate charges. When dashing to the shroud, the range of her ultimate is greatly extended.

Of course this change would require other alterations to work with her kit (possibly changing how the 'q' stacks work to further back-end the damage, possibly straight nerfs to damage). However, this ability would be unique. And it would do many of the things that Riot says it wants to do with assassins:

  1. it provides increased survivability without providing defensive stats.
  2. it can allow for a more extended assassination by giving her increased survivability. Especially, she can use her q when inside the shroud, thus setting up her subsequent damage. If the 'q' ability were changed so that q's can stack, the damage of procing the first q could be reduced while greatly increasing the damage of procing 2-stack q or a 3-stack q. Enemies would know to either go into the shroud to find and kill her before she has stacked q's or would know to get away from the shroud.
  3. it allows for counterplay at all stages of the game.
  4. it allows her to contribute to her team without contributing damage or hard cc, thus she can be relevant even when behind.

Thoughts?

Akali is SO HOT4 votes

I've never really liked that idea. One thing I've always really loved about Akali is being able to be invisible while enemies are on top of the shroud and being able to juke them with it like that. Having them be able to see me while I'm in the shroud would take that away which would make it less fun. It would just be a weirder version of Grave's smokescreen which I don't really find very interesting.

Having the shroud be "Oh shit fighting Akali in her shroud is fukin scary" and making enemies fear the shroud during the laning phase is a really fun and interesting thing to do and I really like that aspect of it. Having pink wards making it almost useless is kinda frustrating but after a while you sorta get used to it tbh and it would be unfair if enemies could never see her in her shroud.

Just my opinion on it I suppose.

Well, in my suggestion, Akali could attack and use abilities in the shroud without revealing herself. So, for example, she could throw a q at a target outside the shroud without revealing herself to those outside the shroud.

So in some ways she would have better access to stealth. But on the other hand, an individual enemy could gain vision of her by moving into the shroud. However, an enemy who gains vision of her by moving into the shroud would not grant this vision to teammates. This would give her a serious information asymmetry. Being a Shaco main, information asymmetries are some of the most fun things to play with. But this mechanic would give enemies a source of counterplay without a pink ward while at the same time not hard-countering her ability with a pink ward.

If anything, I think this ability would be too strong and her damage would have to be nerfed to compensate.

I actually really like that idea on paper, but I think if this goes through her AoE should be significantly lowered. Otherwise it would be an EXTREMELY overpowered version of Graves' Smokescreen.

By the way, I'm not an Akali main so don't put too much thought on my opinion.

Upvoted for Akali. Riot, where is the love for the stealth crew?

Personally, I think the functionality you're describing (if outside, can't see in; if inside, can't see out) is definitely worthy of being an ability, but Akali is SO HOT has it right about the way the gameplay differs from what Akali currently does (and the way the ability feels).

I would like to see her Shroud be much larger though, and maybe Akali can be seen if her model collides with another champion, forcing her to keep on her toes - constantly outmaneuvering them in the shroud.

I want shroud to be a skill shot. Like graves smokescreen...BUT it provides debuff that removes shields when used....I will continue to suggest this until it becomes reality. LOL

EDIT: OR (This will require an assload of coding)

Make shroud her Ult and make it so she Shrouds an Opponent and for 6 seconds Akali and her singled out target are pulled into a Shrouded void zone and are unable to interact with thier teamates at this time. True assasisn god mode. lol
