Am I a poor support for doing the most damage?

I main support and want to become very good at it, well..as good as you can be whilst having a good full time job. I wonder, is it wrong of me to do so much damage as a support? I do understand that it's decent having a 5 ranked win (currently 24/15) streak, but will this aggresive playstyle hinder me or help me in the higher ranks?

In a nutshell, supports are taken for their cc and other helpful abilities like heals and shields.

Because of this, supports generally fulfill their role to the team by building CDR instead of raw damage items. (ie frost queens claim over deathcap)

Although, at the end of the day it really doesn't matter what you build/do as long as it is successful and you carry your team with it.

Edit: You may also want to consider that raw damage items cost a lot more, which may leave you out of money to buy pinks. Having only placed 19 wards in a 32 minute game that you posted the link to is mediocre for supports. A goal I set for wards place is about 1 per minute of the games length.

No. There are supports based on their damage output, such as Brand and Zyra. They have slightly worse CC for higher damage. Morganna has good CC, but less damage then others. You have FQC, you have sightstone. Just keep your ADC alive, and it really doesn't matter if you deal most damage or not.

If you chose damage over Utility or CC, that would be a problem.

If you have the Utility and CC, just with a little damage on top, That's simply a bonus.

However, as players get better, they will get more CS, and get items and levels Quicker. So you won't be able to rely on a Damage base on supports at higher levels.

i am going to say you might need to remember to ward more. The build and play style is fine.

if you do anything that isnt labelled support specific in the "how to support guide" - written by bottom lane adc prepare to be flamed. to that end zilean is all about ap. if you can land a double timebomb while weilding 5 luden's echo's and a void staff guess what. you supported.

You bought a gold income item and Sightstone, placing (among) the most wards in your game.

As far as I'm concerned, you've fulfilled your duty as a support.

The is nothing wrong with doing the most damage on a support. For certain supports (i.e. Zyra, Brand, Annie, Vel'koz), it is actually quite common.

The only possible issue I can see is that you ranked up W second instead of E, showing you were focusing more on damage than utility, which can be a personal preference.

Then again, that is entirely up to personal preference; so long as you were trying to win the game as best you could, I wouldn't really call it an issue.

Doing a lot of damage is pretty useful all things considered, and even with base values alone it can mean your aim was on-point with poke and AoE.

Main issue that correlates with doing a lot of damage as a support is you're getting a lot of gold and glory at the expense of one or more of your allies, and that the gold distribution is inefficient for your team. Supports operate better than non-supports with minimal income, where rolls like Marksman and Assassins are extremely weak without gold but very powerful with gold. This is a correlation and not a connection though: you can still do a lot of damage as a support while utilizing optimal gold/XP distribution methods.

Cheers, thanks for the comments. especially the one about leveling E before W further up in the ladder.
