Jungle Items without Smite

I think jungle items need to be allowed to be bought without smite. I was just in a ranked game where our jungler forgot to get smite. It really hurt him in the early game. He ended up catching up, but I don't think an item should be restricted like that. It didn't used to be this way, and I think it should go back to that way. Thoughts?

part of the item is directly related to smite. Rangers trailblazer is 400 or so gold worth of "smite enhancement" why should riot cater to people who would intentionally spend their gold in the most iniffecient manner possible. I dont think riot should patch something that encourages people to buy things like an archangel staff on lee sin...a ton of mana on a manaless champion is the analogy here. buying an item that enhances smite without having smite is equally ignorant...since you dont get that, why not just buy the equivelant normal item? sunfire cape, black cleaver, morrello, wits end are all very similar items that have nothing to do with smite.

The point of the smite restriction to access said itemization was to avoid the issue of early abuse of the cost-effective jungle items during Season 3 (Spirit of the Elder Lizard) on Blue Ezreals, or laners in general.

So whilst inconvenient; the point is your friend made a mistake - so of course there are consequences.

And I think it is fair from the balance perspective to be at a disadvantage by not taking smite to jungle - otherwise, what would be the point if you could pack more offensive/utility oriented summoner spells and be equally effective as someone who gave those summoner spells up for smite?

They restricted them this season because they are pointless without SMITE. Smite allows you to gain the bonuses from camps as well as a special smite depending on which item you have. Plus it's also to keep them out of lanes, since in the past season people took things like Elder Lizard into lane a lot.

1 minute & 20 seconds in champion select (plus an additional 10 seconds), did your friend just picks a champion and then:

a) Leaves his chair to eat his lunch and pet his cat?

b) Windows out to continue surfing his porn?

That's his mistake, and should bear with the consequences.

if you for some ungodly reason forget to take smite and plan to Jungle then cloth+pots is your next best starting equipment. Using the Jungle items without smite is kinda pointless since you don't get any of the benefits of the items except for stats which you can easily get elsewhere. You don't need the Jungle items to survive and you will have a harder time anyways without smite in the jungle so the jungle items aren't going to do anything for you in that regard

I like how people don't see the real reason that jungler item are now stuck with smite. It all begun with Sotag, where tanky top laners builted it because even with the 700 gold lost with spirit stone, the item was gold efficient and had tenacity (You could get ninja tabi). So if top laners where building it, riot had to nerf it again, and again, and again, until it got worse and jungler where stuck with a item that had no impact rushing as a jungler. Just go for spirit stone that gives you the sustain and go for an item that will help you clear better.

The gold income in the jungle is hilarious. You get no gold, less XP, and you throw down in the drain 800 gold so you can farm "decently". Removing the smite link based item would broke top lane again since they could rush it intead of sunfire.
