So is Quinn the FotM for complaining right now?

Level 7 bird watcher

Been roving the forum, looking at the recent complaint threads about Quinn, and I started wondering what the issue was.

At first, I thought it was simply due to Quinn players using the busted/op lethality build, just one-shotting everyone. I thought that this was another case of one champion abusing items more than anyone else ( e.g. Ezreal every spell blade effect ever). It seemed apparent, everyone kept getting blown up by her.

Then, I watched some clips of this game play, and noticed the targets she blew up. She only went after squishies with this build. I thought that this was odd, and wondered "why go after squishy targets with a build seemingly tailored for tanks?". I tried out the build for myself, give it shot and see what all the fuss was about. Normally, I build full crit on Quinn, and this lethality build didn't feel that much different, even when fighting actual tanks. With my normal crit, and this lethality build, I'd blow up squishy champs just as easily with either build, the only difference, is that I have been building the crit build for far longer.

So this is my simple question. If Quinn could destroy squishy targets with a full crit build just as easily with this new build, why are people complaining about her now, in such quantity, and not before the introduction of the lethality items? Before the items, Quinn flew under everyone's radar (Phreak sheds a single tear), to the point that you'd rarely see her. Hell, one of the biggest reasons I picked her up as my main was because no one played her. I have been building crit for months blowing up squishy champs, before and after her rework, but I haven't seen a single complaint thread about her reach the front page until now.

If lethality does the same damage to tanks that crit/aspd does and blows up squishies better, why build crit?

Anyways, addressing the actual topic: Quinn's always been OP. She's been toplane cancer (which is far more often the reason nobody likes to see her) basically since her release, and definitely since the Marksmen update.

But probably the biggest change between her crit and lethality builds is the way Edge of Night enables faceroll levels of "hyperspeed bird train is coming for your squishies and there's fuck-all you can do about it"

Lethality is NOT the build you want for dealing with tanks. A full Lethality build + Precision mastery and Lethality Red runes removes a majority of a Squishies armor to the point where you are almost dealing true damage to them.

On a tank however, removing 50 of their 300 armor is barely relevant at all.

Lethality items also have very strong actives and passives Cough Edge of Night Cough. Are generally cheaper, and EVERY lethality item is a big spike, where Crit builds take a while to get rolling.

If you're trying to say that the lethality build on Quinn does roughly the same amount of damage to both tanks and squishies as a crit build, then there's literally no reason to build crit on Quinn right now.

  • Lethality gets a powerspike faster than crit builds.
  • Lethality items offer fantastic actives and stats; especially for a roamer like Quinn.
  • Lethality items tend to be very gold efficient for all the goodies you get compared to crit items.

As for why no one complained before: they did. Ask a melee toplaner who they wish didn't exist and Quinn would be on the shortlist. The thing is, she was so unpopular that it wasn't worth complaining about her all that often.

But now that lethality items gave her such a boost in strength, she's becoming more popular; and thus more and more people are acknowledging that her kit has issues regarding counterplay (namely the lack of it).

If I was a Quinn main, I would pray that the lethality nerfs push Quinn back into being an uncommon pick again, else the balance team is going to start messing with her kit directly.

Lethality build is for squishies. It's just she hurts tanks too far more than Normal because flat armorpen applies after percentage reduction (Cleaver) and percentage penetration (LDR).
