Ah, Mana Potion. How I miss thee!!
Hi. I'm a Mage-type character. I rely on my Mana to fuel my abilities. But since the last content patch, I have come to miss my mana potions. A LOT.
It's early to mid game. Since no self respecting magic user really stacks attack power, I have to rely on my abilities to cause damage. There's an enemy champion. Boom! I throw a spell. There's another enemy champion. Boom, I throw a spell. Now, my ally needs a shield. Shield! There's that first champion again. ... I'm out of mana. I'll drink a potion! Wait. My potion only restores health. Ok, fall back and let my mana regenerate. Lovely. They've pushed me back to my turret and I cannot stop them from destroying it. They're ignoring my basic attacks because they're quite weak.
I wish I had a mana potion. I know! I'll use that Clarity ability I got so much use out of. Oh. It's gone.
You know, Riot, I read a few guides that said the Clarity spell was "useless" and "do not take." I, for one, found it to be quite useful. I'm playing support with a nearby DPS character. We push as far we can and both run out of mana. I pop a Clarity and we can keep the push going a bit longer. Sadly, with Clarity gone, we now have to fall back. Something we both would not have had to do if we had a quick mana restore. I'm told this was removed for non-use. Well, I was using it.
As for potions only restoring health, baaah. I'm a mage. My greatest stat should never be my health. In the beginning, I'm dead in one or two shots. I'm also dumb if I've allowed the enemy to get close enough for my health to be that low. Even if I drink a health potion, I'm still out of mana and cannot fight back. Oh, sure. I can eventually get enough mana regen from items to cast, cast, cast, cast, and cast some more. But that's a good fifteen minutes down the road. In the meantime, I'm on this lane alone because my team mates have run off on their tunnel visioned adventures and without mana, even the minions are chuckling.
I've tried to manage this a bit better by using Masteries to change potions in to biscuits. I thought that would help until I saw that the biscuit returns ten (ten! The number after nine and before eleven) mana and then regenerates health. I don't need health regen! I need mana regen!
But you might say there are mana restoring potions. There are. But they're all outside of the starting price range. Garen can drink a health potion and keep on attacking early on. I can drink a health potion and still be one-shot because I have no mana to cast a spell and that Darius charging me down has nothing to fear from me.
Please bring back mana potions. I'd rather spend my fifty gold on something that lets me fight back rather than just to take another hit and still be unable to cast a single spell.
