Summoner Grey is telling you the truth, believe it or not. Dota 2 is seriously different!

  • Dota 2 doesn't have the same concrete role classifications as League does, as there isn't an "Assassin" tag to use. 2 champs have the name of Assassin in them, but that's it.

  • Any Dota hero/champion that can quickly kill a squishy target just happens to be a fed carry, has a serious powerspike by getting ult beforehand, and/or has some mobility through Blink Dagger (13s cooldown Flash) or Shadow Blade (28s cd Rengar ult that lasts for 14s)

  • In the case of powerful ults, Supports in Dota 2 have powerful ults, such as global teleportation with one ally, a huge AoE stun and rebirth, or just STRAIGHT UP POINT AND CLICK NUKES, as 2 supports have. http://www.dota2.com/hero/Lina/ http://www.dota2.com/hero/Lion/

  • Dota 2 has some mechanics that seem VERY UNFAIR to what LoL players are used to, but there are ways to counter this serious invisibility to the point that invis is fairly okay in competitive play!

  • Dota also has A LOT of stuns and cc in general, which can easily allow even a support to chunk a lot of damage, but even this can be countered by a single, magic-immunity giving item or invisibility, since there are point and click abilities.

TL;DR : Assassins in Dota 2 are just fed heroes or heroes/Supports with a level advantage, unless you are these 2 heroes: http://www.dota2.com/hero/Phantom_Assassin/ http://www.dota2.com/hero/Templar_Assassin/

dota plays much differently from league, just wait for the assassin patch towards the end of the year to see what they have planned
