Supports Need Sightstone

Haha fake title.

I realize that you people are all foaming at the mouth if supports don't buy sightstone and become vision bots. But you know, there is this thing, called a pink ward, that you can buy too. I beleive it costs 75. Thats only a tiny bit more than one of those pots you love spamming, and is a lot more helpful. And imagine if everyone got one of these fabled pink wards. That would do the supports job for them.

My point is that Supports do NOT have the same relationship with wards as Kalista has with her black spear. Other people can get them too. I realize that you really wanna rush that deathcap/deadmans/whatever, but jeez. We wanna get some cool items (that generally serve to save your sorry butt) too. But instead, we have to spend 800 because you lot wouldn't spend 75 apeice.

So I say now: Supports, flame your team if they don't buy pink wards/sightstones. Give them a little of the treatment they've given us over the years.

Sightstone What separates a low elo support and a high elo support.

item 2049 can feel a bit weird for some players, and I can understand why because I used to feel that way. It still feels awkward buying it on a support's income early game unless you're a tank.

Vision wise you can get by with just item 3340 and the occasional item 2043 . That's not why you buy that item though. You buy that item so you can get item 3341 or item 3364 .

Those trinkets are powerful because they provide true sight on a nice cooldown. Do not just use them to only clear wards. You can see everything with them, including enemies in stealth and hidden traps like shrooms. It's a huge buff to have on hand and you don't have to sacrifice your wards to have it.

Realistically that extra charge from item 2049 will not impact your game that much until mid to late game. If the support is the only one warding effectively, then the whole team is screwed no matter what.

Even item 2049 wards can only have 3 out at a time, and they all expire. Supports cannot be everywhere at once.

I'd like to see changes to that item going forward. item 2303 item 2302 item 2301 didn't really solve the problem. They're not bad items. They just don't have a place in the current meta where games are called early, and supports rarely finish 6 items. The actives on support items are too good also, especially item 3092 .

I'm not saying anybody should ever pressure you into buying something. If you're a support main please understand that a game is never lost solely because a support didn't buy item 2049 . A support's job is not to light up the map, vision control is the main objective. I think that's such a big misconception about the role.

If someone is dying because the majority of the map is dark, and they've only put out one ward the whole game, you are never to blame. Everyone on the team needs to pull their weight in the vision department.

Warding is everybody's job. Map control is yours. Those items are there to make your life easier and are ultimately more efficient. How you build should always be up to you.

Sightstone is simply not built as often in lower Elo because the players do not understand the importance of warding (Silver/Bronze). I almost never see a Gold support NOT build it unless they have given up on the game and are trolling.

I will say it is not the most attractive item, but warding helps the team a lot and the support should be spending a lot of their time warding and clearing wards.

Pink wards only suffice for so long and I believe sweeping wards is extremely important in the mid-late game.

On my Silver smurf I play support pretty often simply because I don't like dealing with supports that do not build the item.

I usually buy like 3 pinks a game regardless of my role, but I have never built sightstone on any lane other than support.

Pink wards will always come out of good players regardless of whether or not the support gets sightstone. But even if all 5 players on your team are actually smart enough to buy pink wards, that's not going to be a smart reason for not getting sightstone. Sightstone gives you all the wards you can place and opens up your trinket for sweeper. You don't have to buy sightstone, but then again, you don't have to buy any items. This is more about doing what's intelligent in order to increase your chances of winning. If you're not going to act intelligently, it's only natural for your teammates to get upset with you.
