How to improve tank champions for a healtier gameplay

I always see complains about tanks doing too much damage (malphite can solo a vayne full build) or being too much squishy due to item\skill stats

I think a tank should be almost immortal and bring some cc, in exchange to really low dmg.
A pretty nice solution would be to buff tanks resistances trough skills or items (think like items that offer % total damage redution) and reducing their base and ratios damage, lowering cooldown too in order to let them cc more often.
Maybe items that offer more resistances the lower the AD\AP are, to avoid juggernauts or any damage dealer to build them.
Example (IRON PLATE: 500 Health + 10 Cdr + 50 % damage reduction, -10% per 20 bonus Ad\50 bonus ap) maybe seems strong, but you have to consider lower base damage on every tank champion skills to be reworked.
It's pretty sad to see a tank kill a squishy alone, either an adc or fighter melting a tank.
Riot is pushing champions identity more in last years through reworks and new concepts, this can be a chance to follow this route in a good way.
For example think about Amumu\Sejuani ults and ccs that do very little dmg but at the same time they can't be killed.
Basically tanks to have more a support gameplay (and still be annoying) rather than raw damage.
What you guys (and Riot) think about it?
