I honestly believe that most of the people who don't like Yasuo never actually play Yasuo.
Understanding how his kit works and what his ranges are makes it pretty easy to counter him.
That being said, playing AS Yasuo has a lot to do with knowing his limits.
He has no built in sustain or enhanced resistances.
He is able to get 100% crit from two items, normally something like Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge.
Because of the previous two points, I believe that it is actually wise to go for these two items, along with some lifesteal and a more 'bruiser' item. Something with health and/or resistances. Play safer, more like a fighter, until you feel confident enough to go for the more offensive builds without dying.
His kit is designed to shed initial damage with his flow shield and his Windwall.
Like with other skirmishers, you want to use this to his advantage to engage, deal some quick damage and get out, until you are able to straight up 1v1 your opponents.
It is very VERY tempting to go in when you really shouldn't.
You DO NOT need to ulti on every knockup.
This is something that I don't think many people do, but I actually found it to be fun.
Go into a bot game and play AP Yasuo.
His E scales on AP so this will help you to practice and understand how best to use his E to maximize it's damage. I believe it will also help you to use your Q more effectively since it doesn't deal as much damage when building him this way, but you will still need it.
And it's just fun.
