AP Item changes feel like a Nerf than a Buff

I have seen the new Itemization for mages in the mid lane, it feels more like it's going to be a nerf than a buff if anything.

Most of the AP on the items have been nerfed, like item 3027 has been nerfed to give significantly less AP.

I also don't get the item 3174 change into an Ardent/Zeke's item instead of remaining the same. Most AP's NEEDED that passive mana restore on kill, now that it has been removed no other items give it, and again, the AP has been reduced.

Spell Vamp I think is a decent stat to have been removed, considering the likes of Vlad and Akali are the only ones that really ever put it to use, and anyone else wouldn't dare waste their gold on a burst mage using it. Maybe, MAYBE Morgana, but her passive spell vamp was always enough.

Hextech items are a bit.. Up there in terms of power and stats, they seem really good and I am excited to see how those will play out. But the item recipes feel clunky to me. Still very excited to see how they will work out.

item 3070 has an amazing new passive which I guess is a better Chalice than Chalice. And helps against the cesspool of resourceless AD mids.

Riot's direction seems questionable as of late, but I guess we'll have to see how it goes. Before casting any judgement, what appears stupid on paper might prove to be incredibly amazing and balanced in the live games.

It's only 20 less AP on RoA, still more than the 80 it used to have.

mainly I just dislike the Athene changes (feels too low on stats) and Catalyst/ROA weird new passive and less mana when they wanted mages to have more?
