New Champ Select Feedback
I've seen some pretty good feedback and some pretty awful feedback. Neither of which seem very critical to what the new champ select feature brings us.
Current Pros
- Team builder and Draft pick player pools are now combined back into one. One major flaw I had with team builder is it took so much time to find a team, then to find an opposing team. We the players were split. Those who didn't care what role they played (or let fate decide), and those who played team builder. It effectively divided the number of possible players you could be matched with. Due to this the search time for desired roles are pretty quick.
+It's pretty reliable on getting you to fit into your primary position. Out of 10 games of wanting mid first top second, I was given mid at least 7 times. This allows people, like me, to pick roles that they may not be so great at and drill them to improve.
+The transparency you have with your team now is unmatched compared to before. Now you get to choose which champ you would like to play. This allows you to tell your team through means other than words, "Don't ban X champ." or "I can grab your champ if you can get mine!" It's very clear and team focused!
+The graphics and UI is very new and refreshed. The old one was starting to feel a bit dated, and if everything else in the game and client can get a new face, why no the the champ selection? It's pretty cool to hear the champions as people pick them. Small but notable addition.
+Different people choose the bans, and not just the one person sitting at the top. Allows for more players to have a say in how they want to play the game.
+We're given plenty of time to discuss with our team pregame, and choose champions.
Cons -We're given too much time. The champ select process may not have been increased duration, but it FEELS like it. This is because the two players on your team choose separately (Which allows for pick order in the rare situations a champ could be played either or). It is also due to the starting highlight your desired champion phase. It's an important step, but one additional one people aren't used to having just yet.
-You're not always guaranteed your roles. For those of you coming from team builder I could see why this would be considered problematic. You're pretty set on one role in particular, but are forced into the second role. Just remember, you can still trade roles with your team (Use that extra time to talk it out NOT YELL). Just because the client queued you up for top doesn't mean your team is going to force you there (Maybe mostly, but not always.)
-Party selection. I wanted to play bot with a friend of mine. He was going to support/adc and I was going to adc/support. I felt it was a clever way to make sure we got to lane together. Alas the game doesn't allow this. I feel this should be changed, and you shouldn't be restricted in this type of situation. Like the requiring more than one position to be selected, I'm sure it's for a speedy matchmaking process.
-When you're sitting waiting for your turn to pick, you can no longer look over your list of owned champions. I wanted to trade with my friend mentioned above, but he couldn't remember if he had X champion and had no way of checking while sitting there. Not everyone owns every champion, so it's hard for them to keep up with those they do own.
-You can no longer unlock skins in champ select. Previously if you had the rp, you could unlock a skin for a champion while sitting in champ select. This isn't a major thing, but it is one I noticed.
-Instantly shows the enemy team the champion you highlighted. I feel like at higher levels this could be more information than they need to know. A small delay may be nice, but not a huge issue.
-Since pick order is out the window, and roles are predetermined, banning should be given to everyone. Each player should be allowed one ban.
Overall I really enjoy the new look and system. There are still a few things that could be tweaked and given some changes. Just remember, this is still early in its life and is more than likely going to be given several changes based upon the feedback from the community. As a whole, I've learned this community is very opposed to change at first, but when you get used to it the changes are generally well accepted. Give it time. it will grown on you.
What are your thoughts? What do you not like about it, and how would you change that dislike so you find this enjoyable?
Best of luck on the Fields of Justice [slayer-jinx-wink]
