so what was the point of new ryze update?

i never understood the whole concept behind the new ryze update. they nerfed his Q so bad, probably the biggest nerf in league history. Not sure who hurt the most, zilean or ryze.

anyways, ever since his "update" (more like downgrade) i've played ryze 3 times. before his update, he was my main champ, he was my "GO-TO" champ. you know that champ that you easily carry games, the champ that you know like the back of your hand. well that was ryze for me. he was the first champ i picked up, and i got hooked on him. i learned everything there was to know about him.

i haven't been to carry a single game with new ryze, i just can't do it. old ryze, was such a beast, he would burst people so fast, they couldn't even react. my last game just decided that ryze isn't as strong as he used to be.

so again, my question is.....what was the point of new ryze "update"?

P.s im not trying to rant, or troll or anything. i just really want to know what was the purpose behind his pbe update?

He was played twice yesterday in the EU LCS. Once his passive activated, he could chain-CC an enemy on his own. I thought the Maokai lagged out, and was expecting a pause. Nope, it was just new Ryze bursting. He's actually quite strong now... when he passive is being used.

But that doesn't answer your question. The intention of the rework was to make him less tanky, keep his burst, but give him counterplay windows. Old Ryze would get a few items over a course of about 35 minutes, then faceroll. Whenever he wanted. New Ryze can still faceroll, but he needs his passive to do that.

When his passive is up, he does more damage in a short period of time than old Ryze. When it's not, he plans his fights. So less consistent than old Ryze, but more damage over all. Less tanky too, but that's made up for in his fighting windows.

Watch LCS today if you can. I expect to see him picked, unless he becomes permabanned. Yes, he was that impactful yesterday.

tl;dr: Windows for counterplay. Old Ryze could fight you whenever he wanted. Now he needs to passive to fight well. If his passive isn't going, that's when the enemy should look to fight him.

They actually didn't want to make him less tanky, that's why they gave him the shield.

As for the Burst I am not entirely sure, His passive does give him some burst, but with a lot of the damage shifted from single target to AoE I fell like I do no damage without enough targets on my E.

his broken beyond broken, but some time he feel just weak sometimes he can 1 vs 5. the way his passive works, make I'm such a hard to grasp champ. but indeed when you use your combs correctly under the right circumstances. he is borne as super fuck

The Problem with Ryze now is not that he is weak, he is actually quite strong. It's just that he is way different from before. So you need to relearn him, if you even want, after all he is different.

He does less Mana damage on Q and W but way more on E, when you have enough targets. And he does more AP damage overall,. He also get's free % reduction and CDR so his build is a bit different.

He can't burst anymore, but when his passive is up, he can lock down an enemy, unfortunattely it's just a root nothing hard, and he often lacks the single target damage to win the duel on his own.

His AoE damage however is insane now, potential Oneshot Pentakill insane. No exageration, I have already seen a Ryze tripple kill with E under ult.

I loved the old Ryze, hate the new one.

Tbh, he is actually a lil stronger now. With his new Arcane Mastery passive, he can spam/faceroll his keyboards repeatedly more than the old Ryze usually did. Making his Q a skillshot imo is way better than the old Point-&-Click. Easier to check for bushes with it.

It made him weaker in lane, but stronger late game, gave him cdr, but gives less incentive to go tanky.

I was considering trying to learn him but after the viral Huni video vs that Maokai I know he's gonna get a nerf so I think I'll be leaving him on the shelf until I see how badly RIOT hits him. He's too much wasted effort to learn if RIOT is going to nerf him back into oblivion.

the only thing i've seen is that he gets a shield. but his old passive was WAY better. when i play him, it seems like he's tankier, but not burstier compare to old ryze. overall a tanky champ will beat any champ, but just because tank meta is so op. you can take dmg while dealing insignificant dmg to your enemy and still kill him because you have like 2k health left over.

his spell flux is FUCKING WEAK compared to his old spell flux. his old spell flux would get me a double or triple kill with ease, this "new" just seems to target 1 enemy champ at a time with very little dmg.
