Why I play malzahar (a late response to the mid year update)

Hi there, thank you for reading my post and lets get started.

Why do I play malzahar (usually jungle and sometimes mid/top): It fits my criterion for what I'm looking for in a league of legends champion. These aspects are :1. Still useful while behind. 2. Doesn't have ridiculous mobility. 3. Punishes YOLO champions 4. Is a non-meta pick (especially jungle malzahar).

  1. I generally don't play ranked. My brother is a diamond league player who plays with his diamond buddy and I'm a gold scrub. We want to play together so generally speaking we play Blind pick normals. This means I usually lose my lane (unless I'm jungle or if I'm supporting them). I need to play a champion that could still be useful while behind (or a champion that doesn't lose a lane easily). Before I mained Malzahar I mained Veigar . Veigar is a hero that might lose the lane but can comeback and be useful later on. I unfortunately "un-mained" him when Riot reworked Veigar and now I might play him occasionally. (Yes he might take "more skill to play: Sorry I'm a gold scrub.) So why do I play Malzahar ? Simple: His suppression is fantastic. He can still lock someone down even if he is behind and his 3 second silence can help turn around a fight.

As a side note: Other champions that I play that fit this idea:Chogath,Trundle .

  1. This reason actually comes from my experience with Dota 2. I hated playing against heroes with high mobility like Anti-mage and Ember spirit. I didn't mind things like force staff and blink dagger but when Anti-mage has a fucking 5 second blink that is double the range of summoner 4 : well I can't catch the motherfucker while he is afk farming in OUR jungle. I just simply feel like high mobility champions rewards/help nullify bad positioning. Malzahar seems like a simple champion but requires a lot of skill in positioning to play him properly (otherwise you become a walking gank magnet). Note that I don't mean that a champion shouldn't have a gap closer (Amumu )... just not like 2 or 3 dashes

Other champions that I like to play that fit this criteria: Ashe , Twitch , Soraka ,Janna

  1. THIS IS BIG: If Riot adds a dash or makes Malzahar a champion that NEEDS a lead to be useful: I can live with that. MALZAHAR PUNISHING BAD POSITIONING IS THE MAIN REASON WHY I PLAY HIM. You ever had that game? That game where they have a item 3931 Shyvana that can literally kill anyone on your team? A game where their Shyvana was so ridiculously fed and could kill anyone on our team no freaking problem and could probably 1 v 2 and escape. Well it was like minute 35 and I noticed that their shyvana was arrogantly farming a wave right in front of 4 teammates including me. I immediately ult her and my team follows up: Not even joking you can hear the Shyvana going : "BAKANA?! I 1 V 3 AND KILLED 2 OF THEM IN THAT LAST TEAMFIGHT! (we had cd's so we couldn't cc lock her) HOW AM I DYING? I BUILT 1 DEFENSIVE ITEM AND HAVE STARTED ON A SECOND ONE! BAKANA?!" We kill her we push mid and win the 4 v 5 at the turret. Shyvana respawns and thinks "THESE TRASH KILLED ME! I WILL SHOW THEM!" dives 1 v 4: gets killed. We push nexus and we win.

  2. Or a game I recently played where they had a fed MasterYi . He bought item 3139 to counter my ult and ended up with a triple kill because we couldn't lock him down. Now this MasterYi thinks "I BOUGHT QSS SO MALZ WILL NEVER ULT ME. I'M GOING TO GO IN 2 V 3 45 MINUTES INTO THE GAME WITH MY item 3139 DOWN BECAUSE I'M MASTER YI". I suppress the fucker and he dies. (Note that this didn't win us the game... A Illaoi pentakill won us the game).

Moments like this is why I play Malzahar . He punishes players that dive in 1 v 2/3 or 2 v 3/4 thinking ("I will get a kill than run out"). Some examples of champions that I go : GET FUCKED KID YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD KILL OUR ADC AND THEN JUST YOLO OUT? Leblanc , Zed , Jax , Fiora , Riven , MasterYi .Vayne .

He is also great at punishing a positioning mistake when we are pushing a turret/getting pushed. I don't know about diamond+ but in gold/low elo if someone gets Malzahar ulted and is stuck in a bad position: his team abandons him :D.

  1. Non-meta pick: I like to play champions that aren't meta/op and I enjoy playing them in positions that people don't expect them to play in. summoner 11 Malzahar fits that bill.

Some other off meta picks that I play when I want to have fun in a premade : support Ashe , summoner 11 Twitch .

Things that I don't really care about: Lore, his theme (he looks like something from warhammer 40k Tzeentch). Surprisingly I don't put a ton of emphasis on his E. It is a great skill but I won't lose sleep if Riot changes it. His voidlings are very useful when jungling and when I'm trying to wave clear but that is pretty much it. That said; I'm one opinion and I'm sure that many Malzahar mains would be furious if Riot removes it.

So yeah : TL;DR : The reasons why I pick Malzahar is because he can still be useful when behind, isn't a part of league of mobility, punishes bad positioning, and I enjoy off meta picks like summoner 11 Malzahar . (PS Check my match history: I'm very successful with it in ranked). Also if there are grammatical mistakes than I apologize. Thank you for reading this post.

Does anyone know why it keeps showing up "1". I pressed "2/3/4" but it always shows "1" for some reason.

It seems to restart the count if the list items aren't consecutive.

When I have to number a broken up list, I just use square brackets (since the mark-up treats them as pure text).

[1] [2] [3] [4]

Anyways, I like Malzahar's ability to melt everyone who tries to dive the back-line whether they are assassins or tanks. I can quickly remove one of the main threats to myself and my carries before using the rest of my abilities to clean up the rest of the fight.

He's also a great duelist due to his high single-target damage and lock-down.
