is orianna any good?
I'm saving up IP for a 4800 champ and I was thinking orianna but is she any good?

She's not the easiest champion to pick up and expectations are high. If you can handle the social stigma that comes with missing Shockwaves. Go for it.

Lol yeah I tried her once when she was free and it couldn't keep track of my ball and ulted near no one.
Very yes.
Such wow.
Biggest thing to get used to is looking at the arrow on your character which helps you keep track of your ball much easier. Also, if you have the white circle around you that means your ball is still connected to an ally (usually meaning it's okay to shockwave if you've attached it to your engage.) If the white circle disappears that means it's gone back to you (don't shockwave.)
You can never go wrong with Orianna in any comp. A utility mage with decently high damage on low cooldowns and a wide array of aoe? YES. :] She compliments just about most comps, and even fills in as a peeler, initiator, follow up, etc. Only problem are the likes of Zed, LeBlanc shutting out picks mid but even then she still can hold her own against them as long as you focus on farming and staying alive.
Probably my favorite mage, period, her kit is a marvel of champion design. She's a champion that scales with player skill; if you're good at her and good at the game in general, she's pretty much always a solid pick, and if you're bad at her or the game in general, your play will suffer. She does have a learning curve to her, especially if you want to dig deeper into her laning dynamics and map play, but she's rewarding if you're willing to invest the time.
If you're having trouble keeping track of the ball, I actually found playing Annie and learning how to micromanage Tibbers in the middle of fights really helps in learning to keep track of both your champion and a pet/the ball (it'll also help you in trying to learn champions like Azir or Shaco). Ideally you want to be able to sense where your champion and the pet is at all times by just your mouse movements and how you cast your abilities, rather than having to look around for where they are.
Ori allows you to get used to her at your own pace. Start off just maxing your shield (E) and using her stacking autoattack buff, then transition into other skill paths as you go.
If you are prepared for people to go "Are you good with Orianna?" almost every match. If you say Yes and don't go positive you are probably going to be reported. If you say No, then you get yelled at in lobby for not going with a champion are you good at or are extremely easy to use.
She's good, especially if you have someone to wombo with. But she does take some getting used to.
Hard to use and extremely mana hungry at all stages of the game. If you can overcome that though, she's extremly useful with her utility. Just don't expect to carry with her anytime soon. She take practice -lots of it. On the bright side, CS'ing with her is super easy as her AA's do a $#itton of dmg. You won't have to worry about farming and if you land a few W's your laning opponent usually gets himself zoned simply by you throwing the ball out. They fear the ball. Keeping track of it in moments of split-second decision making is what will kill you though. So you'll need to put the time in to the point it becomes reflexive. She's worth the struggle imo, but she's not an easy pick.
She is not hard. She is one of my mains and in season 4 people cried about how she is easy and strong. What did change about her skill set? Just because of she is not strong as before doesn't mean she got harder to play. She is still Orianna with medium skill floor. But I will not say same thing about her power. She is not in her best time.
Buy her, she is so fun to play and this fun gets better while you're learning her. She has medium skill-floor with high skill-cap like Syndra.
She's easily one of my favorite mages to go mid with. Just keeping track of the ball and of what's going on in team fights is the most difficult part (I've ulted myself so many times thinking the ball was in the tank...). She's a lot of fun and very rewarding to play imo. She can also take a squishy to half health with one q w combo (but don't tell anyone that). Btw CDR is Orianna's best friend! (CDR boots and athene's/morello)
Yes. With the recent buffs to
(and by extension
), plus the introduction of
, I think she's in a really good place right now. Her biggest drawback is how mana hungry she is early game, makes it really hard to get a kill before 6. Also, she's really squishy. But if you survive long enough to get
+
+
, you can take any squishy out of the fight with Q+W, and of course her ult can turn entire games. I think she works best as a glass cannon, which makes positioning super important. Her utility is a bit harder to learn, but putting her E on your main initiator is amazing in teamfights (the classic "ball-delivery system" with
or
), and sometimes it's even better to save her ult, Q the ball to a location... and leave it there to completely zone the enemy team.
My typical final build:
. I might swap in
if assassins target me, or
if facing a big tankline.
She is really good, she yields a lot of utility with her E shield W speed boost/slow. Not to mention she can make for some "wombo combos" such as putting the ball on malphite's head then after he ultis in you Ulti right after... Or.. E on rengar have him initiate into the team invis then ulti them. Sooo many combos, just let your allies know ahead of time.
Yes. She's difficult to pick up, but she's incredibly powerful and versatile. There is no champion out there whose style truly matches hers, and she has a flow to her kit that feels absolutely amazing. Now that the assassin meta has gone down a little in favor of the tank meta, she's an even better pick than she used to be, as she's less likely to get dived, and can use her team's tanks to double up on wombo combo initiates with Shockwave.
She's good, just a bit outdated in terms of she could use a better animations/clarity on her kit for new players to understand what exactly you can and can't do with her kit.
If the Smite world championship taught me anything, it was that finding your champion is far and away better than finding the good champion. The most commonly considered OP god in that game lost every match that she got picked in. Don't go asking people if a champion is good or not, just ask yourself if they seem fun enough for you to put in the time to get good with them. Remember, this game isn't won by the champs. It's won by you.
Want proof? I play Mundo. No one plays Mundo, but he's fun as hell for me. Because he's fun for me, I got good with him, and I can win lane against most champs thanks to that familiarity. Even if I lose, I had fun, though. That right there is huge.

I remember this full tank mundo chased me down with his Axe things I flashed over a wall and he still cauht up x) it was terrible
God, I love doing that a Mundo. One game I chased an AP Teemo and an AP Shaco through the jungle, in which they had prepared many, many traps. Using my ultimate, I managed to chase down and kill Teemo after eating 3 boxes and 10 shrooms because I landed every cleaver and I managed to get out alive.
Good times.
I play Mundo as a bruiser, running Phantom Dancer as my one damage item. Man, the headbutts are real.
Yeah, a 12 second 40% MS buff will do that.
Game changing ults
Yes and she is probably one of my favorite mids. And she has the simplest build core. Athenes, Sorcerers Boots, Rabadons, Void Staff. then situational items. I have saved so many peoples lives with her shield. I have created the most beautiful wumbo combos ever with malphite and yasuo and amumu. She is a good buy.

No tear? I thought that was pretty essential :P
Omg NO. I cannot believe people who build Tear on her, as a set thing, unless their only way to succeed in lane is to use strictly Q. Her W and E cost a lot more mana so they aren't things you are encouraged to spam with tear. However it is in her playstyle to make her Shield and Dissonance matter a lot.
Go for a chalice and do not upgrade it until teamfights start happening. The CDR is nice, but you really only need it for the mana and MR until later. Immediately go
then get
for most situations because you need the survivability and damage.
Tear is strong, but it delays her mid game a lot, and that is where she is the strongest. By mid I simply mean lvl 6 - 12 assuming laning is starting to break up a little.
I would venture going
against AD mids,
if both jungler and top are tanks, and
once you get the hang of her tether and travel time.
edit: Not to say she isn't a MONSTER late game. But at that point when everyone is full build, you're focusing consistent damage and the passive will only give you a few hundreds points in shield....
Athenes and zhonya's. Tear is ok but athenes is usually better in every situation because it gets you an immediate power spike. Orianna has a very strong mid game spike tear just delays that. Also CDR is really good on her.
Yes. She is so annoying to play against in lane. Im probably going to pick her up sometime soon here because of it
Shes very good. She is also very hard.
She takes time to get used to and become good with. But she's honestly one of the strongest midlaners when you know exactly how to play her. With huge AP ratios and constant damage.
She's probably the best all-around mid in the game from a design standpoint. Difficult to play well but extremely rewarding when you do. She fits well into a large variety of comps and doesn't really have any super bad un-winnable lane matchups.
She's very strong, but also hard to play. To use your skills you have to manage both your positioning as well as the position of the Ball. Her ultimate is one of the best team fighting ults in the game
Orianna is a lot of fun to play. She's a bit mana hungry, but her Q/W play is pretty strong. Her ult really sets up team lockdowns.
She is /amazing/ across all elos if played well. From silver to diamond, w/e I see a well played ori I am elated if they're on my side and I cry if they're on the other team. I'd love to one of those 'good diamond oriannas', but I suck balls at her :( She'd be a very good champ for you to learn to play, though; regardless of your elo.
I love her because she has great utility for a mid laner. She has some soft cc and a speed boost for a W, her E is a nice shield late game and offers decent sustain in lane, and her ult is really fantastic. She's one of those champions that will really never go out of style because of how solid she is, kinda like Maokai, Leona, Vi, Gnar, etc...
a good shockwave wins every teamfight ever. She's never bad, just out of flavor at times.
She isn't really out flavor. You have seen heavy Orianna play the last 3 worlds. She usually pops up around then because of how safe she is.
According to Critmaster Garen she is a very solid and balanced pick.
not after what ochrisbrown did to her...

i dont undertand that reference
Orianna is amazing, but you have to be very careful with mana early on. She's not the easiest champ to play, but she has amazing potential if you can properly manage the ball and her relatively high mana costs.
I strongly recommend playing her when you have an ally playing someone like Wukong or Malphite; Orianna has amazing synergy with that kind of hard engage team comp.
She is very good. She is probably the safest mid laner in the game and doesn't particularly have an unfavorable match up. the problem is she is very difficult to learn.
Very good lane bully, great utility and damage, an utter nightmare to fight against IMHO but she has a high skillcap and is rather squishy.
I don't play Orianna, so I wouldn't be able to say from personal experience, but looking at competitive play you can see that she has consistently seen some degree of competitive play over the past few years. Pros don't pick champions that are weak unless they are using them as pocket picks, and her consistent play suggests that she's pretty strong, but not overly dominant.
She's never really been a bad pick and she's always pretty much right underneath the flavour of the month champions. Basically, she's quite strong but not strong enough to overshadow other picks due to her burst damage, consistent damage, and utility. If you are looking for a good, consistent mid-laner then I would highly recommend her.
If you are having trouble landing your shockwave during fights, then I'd suggest just placing your ball on your team's initiator and using it as follow up CC until you are comfortable with it. In my first Orianna game I made a lot of mistakes placing my ball during teamfights (in part due to panic), so I pretty much exclusively used my shield on our Poppy or tank (I think it was Malphite, but I'm not sure) and used it around them to follow up on our initiation.
The only way I can effectively play Orianna is with Gunblade, Guinsoo's rageblade, and Nashor's tooth, otherwise I fail hard with her.
She is extremely difficult to learn, but as an orianna main, it really pays off to master her. she is so much fun if you know how to use her.
