Is the Champion Mastery feature the first step towards refining the ranking system?

3/11 PBE Update

From the description of Champion Mastery (emphasis mine): "Finish a game of League and you’ll earn points for your champion based on your team’s performance as well as your own contribution." "Grades are awarded based on your overall performance in the role along with the champion you’re playing and, crucially, where you’re playing them."

If Riot can determine your performance as an individual during a game, they should be able to incorporate that into your ELO/MMR/LP for the ranked game system. At least I hope so. Fingers crossed.

individual performance seems like a good idea, but let me explain why not. Last night I played a game, and I went 11/12. I was 9/5, until our tryndamere refused to participate in team fights, leading to us losing major map control and throwing. His score was 11/5, but only because of the fact that he was avoiding death in team fights. Maybe we would've won those team fights with him, and won the game, but because his skill level was so low and he didnt communicate, we lost. That is why an individually scored ranking system will never work, although i wish it could.
