What happened to the Worlds spectacle of last year?

It seems like Riot didn't put as much effort into the presentation, this year. Especially compared to an Imagine Dragons concert in a huge outdoor arena, etc. like they had last year.

Yeah it seemed pretty lazy in comparison.

Big flailing excitement to the lead up. This year we had weeks between playoffs and Worlds with little hype in between. The week before worlds just felt like "oh yeah, worlds. alright then". The arena looked cool, and I hear live it is/was awesome, but it didn't really come across as epic on stream even as last year either.

Closing ceremonies just the guys talking and throwing clothes, meh. I mean even Monte, the biggest Korean D nommer of them all has looked bored on the analyst desk, and that should say it all.

I agree with you both. I was expecting something more spectacular during the opening ceremony and the closing one. Specially the latter felt flat. The champions not knowing what to do with the cup, little celebrations... I don't know, maybe I shouldn't have had my expectations set up so high ._. I'm sure that it was much more exciting in the arena, but they failed to transmit it to the thousands of people that were watching the finals online.
