What if Riot made it so the new support item dispensed pink wards instead of normal wards? They could even make it so your support item could drop both types of wards. Maybe even increased max pink wards down to 2 instead of 1? I could see this making the new support items worth it as they currently get outclassed by the ones with unique actives.
Potentially the new support items do need something to make them more attractive, but taking a wide view of the vision game and current concerns, I don't feel the solution to all the issues mentioned here is in reemphasizing the support as ward caddy.
-i don't think support players as a whole enjoy a heavy commitment to vision as part of their fantasy. We enjoy vision options, yes, but when it becomes a necessity to sacrifice different builds there is resentment.
-players in other roles who value vision are frustrated when they must over rely on supports for coverage of points.
What if they just didn't give Rengar the ability to auto three times in one second....late game, getting hit by spells is like getting hit by a tractor, but getting hit by autos--especially crits--is like getting hit by the entire farm. That's crazy power that NOBODY should have. And that's coming from someone who plays assassins exclusively.
