Why is movement speed on the core items of ranged ADC's? Just wondering as doesnt this enforce the Ranged>Melee problem we currently have. I feel as if movement speed should not be coupled with Crit chance as it is a complete force multiplier with ranged in mind.

No hostility just wondering as 5% ms on zeal to a 330 ms carry is 16.5 ms which puts them above a large chunk of the champion pool before boots are in the equation.

Edit 1: The reason I point this out is it would lower their soft mobility, making it so melee has a chance to catch them if they are on the run. thus permakite would require the player to choose items specifically for that purpose.

Mobility IMO is separated into 3 types Like CC

  1. Soft mobility: Movement speed
  2. Moderate mobility: Dashes that cant pass over walls
  3. Hard mobility: either extreme low cd or can go over walls

CC has 3 types like so

  1. Soft CC: Slows (No loss of actions)
  2. Moderate CC: Snares/Roots, Silences, Blinds, and Interrupts (Partial Loss of actions)
  3. Hard CC: Fears, Stuns, Knockup/back (Complete loss of actions)

Now this is not something one can just change easily. Things that would need to be done when making this change would be, Repricing of ms/crit items, New items that give MS for AD champions, and tweaks to Trinity Force if needed or leave the MS on trinity as a bonus for completing the item.

Edit 2: Zephyr as an Item is a great example of why this should be looked into. I believe that there should be 3 distinct types of carries based on how you build them.

  1. Crit Based Carry: Builds moderate damage and Crit to be used in fighting in teams
  1. AD Caster: Builds Trinity Force and is moderate on mobility (Trinity Force MS)
  2. Kite Carry: Builds AD, ATK SPD, and MS allowing them to split push and kite champions with their MS

If you look at why most players build zeal or its upgrades its not for the MS but for the crit, The MS is just a free bonus for them on top of the passive effect for Trinity or Shiv. Most people don't buy PD for the passive either its all for the crit chance and attack speed.

Thoughts?

It used to be worse. Zeal used to give 8% MS, PD used to give 15% and Tri-force used to give 12%.

Its good that they have toned it down but right now the MS/CRIT items are 3x force multipliers. They give Crit chance, Attack speed, and Movement speed which is 2 damage boosters and a utility(mobility) booster in very cheap items.

I think Zephyr is what should be done to the items if you want MS and ATK SPD you should have to get Zephyr if you want Crit and ATK SPD then you get PD or SHIV but having all three is really too much imo.

I think they just have to figure out how to address the mobility gap. Immobile ADCs like Ashe and Varus very much enjoy and need the little bit of extra MS from Zeal and other items, while Lucian could probably do fine without it. You can't force immobile ADCs to buy items that don't directly boost damage, while their their counterparts can go straight damage without worry.

They think permakiting is more exciting to watch in the lcs than an adc being caught and killed.

Its not even that I believe. Its that the base item build path that ADC's have removes their stat weakness that they were given (Lowest MS champions). I really don't understand why as that weakness was made so there is some trade off for being a high sustained damage ranged champion, It promotes actual positional awareness for the player in order to succeed. Most ADC also have some form of either Soft Mobility boost (draven W, Jinx/Vayne Passive, etc) or Moderate/Hard mobility (Graves E, Cait's E, Kalista's Passive, Corki's W, Etc), and if they don't have that they have some form of Soft or Moderate CC (Ashe Q, Kog's E, Jinx E, etc).

If I'm being serious instead of snide it's because they balance range vs melee interactions for low elo. Low elo can't kite or position so things like fighters are actually good there and adcs aren't as good. Riot chooses to make it easier to kite for the sake of low elo adcs because they want to enforce the meta and that just makes adcs completely shit on low mobility melee elsewhere.
