Jesus christ you broke this guy so much. It's no0t possible to play melee against him.

It never was.
He got nerfed hard, hes terrible. If you cant beat him early-mid you bad
He's not so strong anymore but he will always be good vs most melee just due to being ranged.
IMO the rework was a total failure. Riot wanted to be able to balance Ryze without him being unfun to play against but they just gave him even more issues that cannot be easily balanced (IE: the infinite root). My bet is that he will continue to be either pick/ban or total garbage until they decide to give him another rework without that ridiculous passive.
