Do runes make that much of a difference?

Should i invest in some better runes and rune pages? i have nearly a full adc set tier 3 but everything else is bad. I only have 2 pages too.

Yes. Runes make a huge difference. All you really need at lower levels id a basic AD and a basic AP page, but you need runes.

Take tier2 runes while ou get the tier3 ones. T2 only cost 1 IP and are 2/3 as potent as the T3

it is about early game. with out runes your early game is put at a disadvantage also when abilities scale on bonus stats runes count towards that as well.

different rune pages are nice as they offer you plenty of options for rank play, but If your a one trick pony for 2 lanes you should be pretty safe :P

I think mostly an attack speed page, cooldown type page, and then like a standard ad mark or ap health seals mr glyphs or armor seals is pretty good. Having a few options doesn't hurt you, but Yes runes make a huge difference. 10 ad is a long sword of gold 15 ability power is a darkseal If you go into a game without runes it's basically like playing with a handicap as the other player already has item 1082 item 1029 item 3114 's cooldown So for champions like say a riven to snowball. Without runes she will have a horrible time getting ahead because her damage and sustain is reduced :P

Runes can make a noticeable difference

If you put flat 15 ap, imagine how much more bonus damage you would get from say, a level 2 viktor burst Your laser will scale from the extra ap, your Q will scale and even your thunderlords proc will scale

For a jungle example, you can notice the difference between having no runes and having the proper runes for first clear (I once tried atkspd runes for brand jg to tone down the brutal 1st clear; it wasn't half bad though I would prefer the ap scale)

Rune pages can be optimized solely to help an off meta champion have an easier time first/second clearing the jungle (not recommended though but just food for thought)

Tier 2 runes are probably good enough in practice for most situations, since realistically in any given match up your skill levels are probably not going to be so close that the couple stat points will make a difference compared to the skill differential.

That said, once you have a handful of champs you're comfortable maining, you probably should put your IP towards a proper set of tier 3 runes and more customised rune pages, since it does make some difference.
