How many people out there actually play Dominion a daily basis?

I am one in a quickly shrinking circle of people that actually enjoy to play Dominion. The rest are either A) Bots, or B) people who troll it cuz they have nothing else to do. So my question is thus: Why has riot not removed this Game mode from the Game, and if not, why are they leaving it to rot?

I usually play it on this account when I log in. It's not everyday, but it's a good portion of the time.

Why has riot not removed this Game mode from the Game, and if not, why are they leaving it to rot?

Because they want to remove it, but people still play it. So they leave it to rot in the hope that new players will be turned off by the old map and lack of attention from the balance team. But the problem with that plan is that Dominion offers things all the other maps don't:

  1. No enforced roles. You don't need one person on every team to be a jungler, or support, or marksman, or tank. You play what you want. It helps to have variety, don't get me wrong, but you can get away with a team of five tanks much easier in Dominion than on the Rift.
  2. No CSing skills needed. CS is a low priority in Dominion, so if you suck at CS and don't want to put in the time to learn for whatever reason, why not play a game mode that doesn't require you to do it?
  3. Instant and non-stop teamfighting. Four champions go top, and a teamight breaks out almost as soon as the two teams can interact with each other. No waiting for the laning phase to be over, no stalling out at turrets, no hoping the other team goes and does baron. Just straight up "go and kill the other team, then take their land from them".
  4. ARAM shares the above, but Dominion also allows you to choose your champion. All the perks of ARAM, none of the randomness.
  5. Shorter games compared to SR.
  6. Marksmen may have been made into gods in the previous patches, but Dominion is composed of champions with gapclosers, mobility, and high damage. There's generally no one to peel for the marksman, since there's usually no support. Dominion brings marksman back down to the level of the other classes.
  7. You can play Taric Urgot Sona Shaco Zilean without people thinking you're trolling. Champions the Rift has left behind can find new life in Dominion.
  8. Gold is pretty evenly distributed. Being 10/1 in Dominion is not that huge of a deal, and being 1/10 doesn't put you so far behind you're struggling to put together one completed item. Snowballing is much less of a thing in Dominion, especially with the new minions on the Rift.

I love playing Dominion and wish I knew more people that did. Sadly I never play it because I always end up waiting 15mins< in matchmaking. I used to play it off and on back in Season 4 when I was new to League. Then by the time Season 5 came around it seems to of become dead. I honestly love it more than ARAM because that game mode is 90% luck and 10% skill. People seem to love the one-sidedness of ARAM though. I see so many people on winning teams trash talking because they think they're good, even though they have vayne, vel'koz, xerath, and 2 heavy CC/peel tanks or a soraka against a team comp with all melee champs who have no synergy. Dominion on the other hand is rarely one-sided in my experience, games are often pretty close and still have the bloodbathyness of ARAM.

To answer the question though: I don't play it on a daily basis due to queue times, but I would if I could.

Me! Not necessarily every day, but I am more or less Old Guard at this point.

I love dominion, though I do wish Riot would give it the love it deserves.

I play Dominion pretty much exclusively.

I've been seeing lots of names I don't recognize, so there must be some new folks queueing up compared to when Dominion started back in pre-season 2.

Lets be honest, the majority of the league community would prefer dominion to be replaced with urf

I love playing dominion but I only rarely play anymore cause:

  1. people don't know how to play and riot won't make a better tutorial for it.

So I really don't want to play having an enemy who can't do anything or teammates who are useless even after trying to explain to them what else you do besides fighting/defending is annoying

I'd play it more often if I wasn't perpetually stuck in matchmaking limbo. I stopped playing because I'd typically either get pulled down into a match with people who were mediocre at the map or pulled up into a match with players who were massively better than me. That's not a complaint about the matchmaking system itself though: there just weren't enough people around my MMR.

Removing Dominion has more negatives than positives. They'd be outright driving away what remains of the community in exchange for negligible server costs. On the other hand, actually supporting the game mode would require resources Riot doesn't want to invest in Dominion (e.g. balance, art). It's a shame because the game mode offers some of the most interesting gameplay in League.

since preseason i´m back to almost daily playing some Dominion, still the best map in the game...less snowball, more strategy.

OdiousMole11/28/2015, 2:06:41 AM1 votes

not as many as play your mom on a daily basis. booyah!

I personally find it fun the once in the blue moon I play, I just hate it since bots play it. Riot makes no attempt to get rid of them so most people don't want to waste their time with it.

Personally at this point they should just get rid of the bots, or throw it into customs and bring back the other gamemodes and throw them into custom as well.

Let's assume that this is true on NA (I doubt it, though). Should Riot remove a mode from every server just because one server has issues? EUW and potentially South Korea (not sure) have decently solid Dominion playerbases, so it would be rather selfish to remove Dominion just because NA has issues.

Though from what I've heard Dominion is still playable on NA, and sometimes when I login on my NA level 5 account I see players in Dominion games, without bots or trolls. So your assessment of the situations appears to be false.
