So I enjoy playing sion a lot. I know he was nerfed pretty hard but honestly his kit seems like itll be good just because of all the cc and his q has that hard cc if charged. Is he being played at all? And my main question is that should i main him or is it not worth it? Does he have any major counter picks and if so why?

Honestly if you enjoy playing a champion then main them. Even if they aren't favored by the meta, as long as you are good on them you will do well.

As a fellow sion main untill you played at least 200 games with him he isn't that great atm.

Ok his base stats and stat scaling is some of the lowest in the game. 1783 hp at lvl 18 and 70 armor lvl 18 that is for what is supposed to be a beefy dude extremely low. Sion is pretty mana hungry early game because of some of the nerfs now mana pot is leaving us so there is that. Let me clarify Sion has low base stats but strong abilities, without using your abilities to zone off enemies your laning becomes really hard untill you get tanky items. But being mana hungry you have to be carefull about using them. Early game is very difficult for Sion right now, and will be worse next patch. Midgame is where you can shine if you dont lose lane, but late game you die in 3 seconds like any other tank.

All of your abilities are skillshots and have charge times and cast animations ranging from 1-3 seconds making his plays extremely telegraphed, and because they are skillshots entirely avoidable. Hence why i said you will need a ton of games with him to make it work.

As for the health stacking you require at least 800 bonus hp from it come lategame to compensate for your weak base stats, this will become difficult if you lose your lane.

He is a very high risk low reward champion. Though he can be high reward if played correctly and you can land ults and q's succesfully on a consistent basis, which requires alot of playing because you need alot of game knowledge and feel for it to make that work.

Granted he is fun to play but right now very weak. Compared to other tanks he needs to put in alot more effort to accomplish the same goals with much much higher chance for failure.

Toplane he gets outstatted by most champions early on so they will try to allin and snowball. AAnd unless you can farm bonus hp reasonably most champions will continue to outstat you. Sion is also not a great early game duelist, sure if you can land a fully charge q from the stealth of a bush followed by w and e and a few auto attacks you can deal heavy damage but again this is very situational. Lots of champions can counterjungle him early game.

As a support you again get outstatted by other supports with similar functions and you wont be able to farm hp to compensate.

The only lane i still play sion is mid because you can outpoke with e and outsustain most enemy midlaners, and from lvl6 onwards you can outroam them, this way you can generate good pressure.

Honestly unless you purely want to play it for fun and with fun builds he just gets outclassed my other champions.

Only good thing is your zoning potential which allows you to zone for your carries making life difficult for fighters who like to dive your backline.

I have good succes still with Sion because i know so well what to do with him, because i have mained him for so long already and still enjoy playing him alot.

So if you are prepared to put in the extra effort and you like playing him then yea why not main him.
