As an uninformed new player, could someone please explain Solo and Dynamic Queues to me?

I just hit 30 about a week ago, so I don't really understand what is going on, but I want to make sense of the discussion since the matter seems to be causing an uproar.

This is difficult when you haven't been around long enough to be familiar with the terms Solo and Dynamic Queue. Could anyone give me an impartial rundown of what is happening?

PS. I am ignorant, and please forgive me for that.

Solo queue- you could queue up with at maximum 1 other player (duo).

Dynamic Queue- Can queue up with a full team if you want
