Make a lethality item with an active that makes your abilities ignore sheilds for 5 seconds

It would give you a legitimate reason to draft assassins into things like 'protect the kogmaw' comp. I think it should be abilities only so it's not abused by ADCs and a lethality item so it's not optimal for poke mages. The only champs I can think of that give me reservations on an item like this would be Jayce and Ezreal. Jayce especially though. He's already really strong and there'd be even more situations where he's optimal with the better sniping this would give him.

So the one thing to protect against assassins, and you want to just ignore it??? I play mostly assassins, and that just sounds disgustingly broken.

You could argue assassins need to be overcompensated against squishies because they have to assassinate through shields to begin with.

Are you saying that, when assassins come up to try assassinate someone, they already are loaded up with shields? Because that's the only way they'll have to "assassinate through shields to begin with".

I'm saying that because there's no item/skill counterplay to shields at the moment other than to wait for the shield to expire or be able to burst through the shield, assassins are either overloaded in their damage/cooldowns to compensate or shields are underloaded in their strength/duration. In other words, all the counterplay comes down to 'stats' which was also the basis for reworking the entire rune system. I would rather there be active counterplay options as I think that makes for more interesting and creative gameplay.

But you actually can't... Why would any class need to be overcompensated for a weakness???

Not sure if you're being serious but that's exactly why you buy items. If your champion had infinite damage, health and cdr there would be no reason to buy anything.

the point of shields is to counter burst damage, whats the point if there is a item that allow players playing burst champion to ignore it?...

that would be like adding a item for ADC that has a active so they can't be damaged from abilitys for X amount of secs or an items that allow burst mages to ignore MR.

it only serves to allow champions to remove weaknesses they are suppose to have.

Isn't that the entire point of items?

higura3 votes

no, items can lower the impact of a weakness but should never outright remove them.

exsample item 3123 lower the amount of healing done, it doesn't remove it.

when it comes to shields, can you lower the impact of them by buying more damage, thereby allowing more of your damage to hit though it.

other than that, does shields also have the downside of only lasting a few sec, where other stats/ healing doesn't.

Next you are gonna ask for an item that ignores invulnerability and stasis while we are at it.

Wow, I'm surprised by the response, I thought most people were like me and would like to see more counterplay options against heavy shield comps.

Assassins counter low HP champs. Thus shields on those low HP champs help counter assassins. So you're proposing that we remove the counterplay initially put in specifically to counter assassins?

Cuz if we do have "shield penetration", how are squishies supposed to survive what would quickly be the assassin meta? And don't say lifesteal, think of the supports, oh I guess we better insert "heal penetration" for them too since they counter assassins, hell why not just remove counterplay to assassins

You balance it through increasing/decreasing the window for shield penetration, the amount of shield penetration, and the cooldown of the active. Edge of Night would be broken too if it gave you a permanent Banshee's Veil. I don't see how this is any different. Active items give you windows of being overpowered. That's not an excuse to condemn all actives. What if Youmou's gave you +100% speed for 5 minutes? Everything is broken by that logic.

Increasing/decreasing the window for shield penetration? There already is that window of time...by waiting out the shield...shield is temporary health...and your comparison doesn't...what even...

It's like you're making it seem as if you believe that shields are permanent, otherwise why would you compare it to making other stuff permanent?

If you're arguing that making something permanent would be broken "by that logic" then why are you complaining about shields? They're in no way permanent...

And if you're gonna argue about the shields being "permanent" relative to the window of time you have to assassinate them, then you gotta pick your fights better...

Right, so the counterplay is either waiting or being ahead enough to burst through it. I would prefer more active counterplay options for the opponents more than 'don't pick assassins into shield comps.' By the way, what I'm proposing does nothing to help assassins kill tanks. They'd still be just as vulnerable to heavy CC and tanks.

Now you're bringing tanks into this. I never said anything about tanks... Assassins are meant to snowball hard both ways, either assassins get ahead a ton and demolish or get behind and become useless. The assassin role is meant to be high risk high reward...Besides, there's a reason why most of the 'meta' assassins always have some sort of escape or "damage prevention"

You know this isn't a discussion, right? We're not arguing physics or math here. League is a constantly changing game, not a set of timeless absolutes. There's no need to act like Moses on the mount proclaiming God's word on League of Legends.

Here, if you want to form this last statement into an argument, you could phrase it like "I think assassins should be a high risk/high reward class that either snowballs hard and wins early or gets to late game and becomes useless." I think you also believe that assassins as an entire class should be hard countered against shielding. On the first point I don't mind assassins being high risk/high reward. In fact I'd like them to become more the class that has to rely on actual outplays to be able to win games. But on the second point, I don't think shielding should be a hard counter to the entire class. That seems unnecessary. I think it would be cool to give assassins ways to outplay shields through items that require good mechanics or game sense to pull off. Is a 5 second window for shield penetration too much? Maybe. What about 3 seconds? 2 seconds? 1 second? Do you see my point? I don't think shield penetration is inherently game breaking, it's all dependent on how it's implemented. But I think this is a window that would be cool for an assassin to have in their arsenal.
